PattyMacDotComma If you enjoy good writing, history, mystery and complex characters, join me in my love of C.S. Harris's Sebastian St. Cyr historical murder mystery series. When Falcons Fall is #11, (but do start with #1).

I've finished this week end Ten Days in a Mad-House Ten Days in a Mad-House by Nellie Bly by Nellie Bly and I strongly recomend it: things were not that better also 50/70 years after that - see One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Here's my review

PattyMacDotComma Princess Diana may have been the last truly shining light in the British royal family. Children's author Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara doesn't shy away from the divorce and bulimia - unusual for a children's picture book - but focuses on her well-known kindness to all.
Princess Diana (Little People, BIG DREAMS, 98) by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara My review of Princess Diana with several illustrations and a bit of a whinge

The Butterfly Collector by Tea Cooper
A decent historical story, but I expected far more. The title generates very different expectations.

PattyMacDotComma Joe Hill's The Pram is one of the Amazon Original Stories in the Creature Feature Collection. Good creepy read that comes to quite a sudden stop!

PattyMacDotComma Known during the Depression as "the most violent woman in Sydney", Iris Webber led a rough and ready life as a thief and prostitute. Aussie author Fiona Kelly McGregor paints a vivid picture of the underworld and extreme poverty of the 1930s.

PattyMacDotComma I hope The Incredible Hotel actually exists somewhere, exactly the way Kate Davies and Isabelle Follath describe it. Lovely story and gorgeous artwork.

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) | 425 comments Change of Plans by Dylan Newton
Change of Plans (Matthews Brothers, #3) by Dylan Newton
I liked the disability rep and the plot, but disliked the OTT elements. If you can ignore the latter, it is worth a read for the former.

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) | 425 comments Luminous: The Story of a Radium Girl by Samantha Wilcoxson
Luminous The Story of a Radium Girl by Samantha Wilcoxson
An indie novel focussing on the life story of Catherine Donohue, the woman who filed a suit against Radium Dial for not letting its employees know about the harm caused by radium. The book goes a bit overboard on faith-related elements, bit it contains a heartbreaking story that is a must-read.

PattyMacDotComma The Sebastian St Cyr historical mystery series by C.S. Harris is just terrific. Searching for missing street children takes Lord Devlin to Where the Dead Lie and some truly evil men.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read When I Sing, Mountains Dance by Irene Solà, translated from the Catalan by Mara Faye Lethem.
It is unlike anything I've ever read before. Multiple narrators, including a rain storm, mountains, a dog, ghosts, etc. The language was rhythmic, bursting with life, and reminded me of the poetry of Walt Whitman.
A remarkable achievement and highly recommended.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read Nothing But the Night by John Williams.
I've read Williams' other three novels and have loved them. This is his debut novel and it shows. It has flashes of the great writer he was to become, but it lacks the subtlety of his later works.
