► UNSOLVED: One specific book > YA Sci-Fi. Teens in a plane crash, survive on an island(s). I think it had a mix of boys and girls and had some sci-fi elements like force fields/ energy shields. Read around 2011-2012.

bailey (bailsbookshelves) | 3 comments This book was read by a middle school teacher to my class around 2011/2012 and I believe it had a black cover possibly with a plane on it. We never finished it so unfortunately I don't know many spoiler-y details. It might've been the first book in a series but I'm not sure.

It seemed like it was a recent(ish) release at the time because she had a hardcover version and we typically had mass market paperbacks for the books we read that were published earlier.

I believe the book started with the kids on the plane and then somehow transitioned to them living on this island or group of islands. I don't remember the survival aspect of the story being a huge plot point, I'm pretty sure the sci-fi stuff that was going on was more present. I remember something about force fields or energy shields or something that the kids would use but I don't remember much else beyond that. There might've been different groups of kids on the different islands that had different goals/abilities.

I'm sorry I can't remember more, I want to find the book so that I can actually finish it and find out what happens since we didn't finish it back then.

Kirsty McAllister | 5 comments Probably isn't this (because there's no plane or islands), but it makes me think a little of Gone by Michael Grant. All the adults disappear and a dome appears round the town. There are various superpowers and groups of kids with different goals/abilities.

It also sounds like Lord of the Flies by William Golding, but while it has the plane, islands, and groups of kids with different goals, there is nothing sci-fi.

Anyway, thought I'd throw it out there.

Google Books preview of Dr. Franklin's Island by Ann Halam - bookel's suggestion:

https://books.google.com/books?id=6r8... There are different cover images including Dr. Franklin's Island by Ann Halam .

I know it’s been a while since I posted this thread but I haven’t forgotten about it. Just finished reading Gone and I know it wasn’t that one. Fantastic book though so thanks for the recommendation!

bailey, can you describe the island(s) and what the teens found there? What did they eat?

Stranded! by Clay Coleman

Also check Gordon Korman's Island series, though that is a shipwreck.

bailey (bailsbookshelves) | 3 comments I have not worked my way through the lists yet. I believe the kids were a mix of boys and girls but I’ll still have to read a preview of the book you mentioned before I can 100% say it was or wasn’t that one.

As for what the islands were like, I remember there being a series of small-ish islands that the kids were traveling between by running I think. I don’t remember there being any boats big or small to help them get across which makes me think they were quite close together. I also remember there being some type of dense forest, lots of trees and whatnot, I don’t even know if I remember them going to a sandy beach or not. I don’t remember what they are at all.

Rainbowheart | 28629 comments I don't think it's Found, no island in that, iirc.

Bailey, does anything mentioned on this thread look familiar?
