January 2023 Read-a-Thon: Team Janvier

I got a bit derailed last night. A friend reminded me it was "National Peanut day" (LOL) so I gave up a bit of my planned reading time to make a app and desert (fresh rolls with peanut sauce & chocolate Peanut butter cookies) to go with dinner.
So I didn't read much, but I listened a LOT while I was cooking and cleaning last night. Only a couple hours to go on Skulduggery (MG/YA so it's very easy to listen to).
And I'm about a third of the way through Florida Woman which can count as F for Family if needed .. should be able to finish it tonight. Its a quick/easy read but pretty bad. Looking forward to getting it done and moving on

Half way through the readathon and we have only one prompt to go for round #1 Family: A book whose title starts with a letter in the word FAMILY and we already have the bookmarks we need!!

@Sheena love your Peanut Day detour!!! The treats sound amazing!!

I'm very excited to have 2 bookmarks. When I went to bed last night we had 0. This morning we had 2. We are fast readers.

That sounds like the best day!! We're getting a dumping of snow here. I woke up to a clean car but by the time I left for work it was completely covered. And another 15cm/6 inch supposedly coming throughout the day/night. But at least its's pretty snow - huge big flakes sticking all along the tops of tree branches. I'm looking forward to going home and snuggling in with a book and blanket and a big glass of wine after work!!

I'm back to reading Sad Cypress and hope to finish today or by latest tomorrow.
I'd finished With the Fire on High and slotted it for food on the cover. I've been listening to The Proposal which one of the main characters is a doctor so it would work for the nurse/doctor/hospital prompt. But the books starts off with an unwanted public proposal at baseball game, and there's even a baseball on the cover - would it be a stretch to consider this involving sport? Oh another main character attends a self-defense class at a gym, is that sporty enough?
@Sherri - Love dinner is in the crockpot and you can forget all about it. Yay for a day of reading!
@Sheena - Ugh on the snow. Enjoy your wine and snuggling with a book. Sounds delightful!
Here's to a great day of reading, everyone!

I'd finished With the Fire on High..."
Yes, I think that works! The mods generally aren't to picky about loose/creative prompt interpretations during readathons. And I think a baseball game/ball on cover and self defense qualify all qualify as involving sports.

Seriously! Lol there is a very, very slim possibility of a snow day tomorrow, but that would mean a Zoom day so I guess that doesn't necessarily mean more reading time

I'm starting Nineteen Eighty-Four which will just go for pages since I'm unlikely to finish by Sunday. I'm also going back to reading An Arrow to the Moon.
It'll be fun to see what we can pull off!

I might finish The Strange Journey of Alice Pendelbury later tonight, maybe. I'm having lunch with friends today so my afternoon is shot.
We are doing great. We are at the stage in the read-a-thon where we are grinding through the pages & not worrying about prompts so much. I like each phase. Have fun today.

@Rachel - I do this a lot too. And use the percentage read to calculate how many pages I've read. You'd think the ebook people could figure out a way to make it easier.
@ Enjoy your lunch!
I've got two books on the go and just added them to the spreadsheet.
Take a Hint, Dani Brown hits lots of prompt options
Atlas of the Heart is the GRC non-fiction winner and is classified as self help so it can go for that (our only possibility at the moment.
I'd like to read 3 more after than to finish my individual challenge. That seems like a LOT but I might try and look for some shorter options to swap out my original plans?!?

You all are doing great!!!!!!!!!

The goal of the challenge is just to encourage you personally to read a bit more at whatever your pace is. They don't even announce any kind of winner or who finished or anything (this surprised me the first time) so as long a you did some reading and had some fun in the groups I think it's a win.

The team is doing so well!

@Sherri, time spent with friends is always time well spent!
@Joan, hope it's been a good busy. All contributions big and small matter!
@Jen, I've heard great things about Babel. Hope you enjoy it!
@Edie, enjoy your time with the grandkids!
I'm in the middle of When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain which is a novella but I have no idea what and if it fits any prompts. At least it's short and go towards pages.

What a wonderful weekend plan, Edie! Enjoy!! And go ahead and log your book anyway with any prompts that you can find.
During the last day or so, I'm sure Sherri and I will try and swap things around a bit if we see an opportunity to check off some more resolutions. And of course, pages = bookmarks which are always needed.

I have to admit, I'm completely lost with the spreadsheet. I don't understand what the numbers beside the titles in each tab mean. I thought the list cleared it up at first, but I'm not really sure what "Currently 0," "Currently 1," etc means either.

"I have to admit, I'm completely lost with the spreadsheet. I don't understand what the numbers beside the titles in each tab mean. I thought the list cleared it up at first, but I'm not really sure what "Currently 0," "Currently 1," etc means either."
Rachel Sheena's list is of prompts to be filled with the least number of options. "Currently 0" means there are 0 books in progress/TBR for those prompts. So for those of us, like me, that have no idea what book to read next her list gives us options.
On the planning spreadsheet under Done then the round #'s Sheena has her own tracking system for the books to help with cross referencing & keeping count of everything. I hope this helps. Sheena can explain this better I bet.

Joan & Rachel - those books both look great!
Sherri - you're flying through the pages! Hope your lunch yesterday was fun!

RE: Spreadsheet & List
Yes, Sherri - you said it well that was exactly my intention with the list. You get me, LOL
You can totally ignore the numbers if you like; it just helps with spreadsheet maintenance. For those who are interested. There are always a few books that don't get added to the multiple sheets in quite the right the place or at all. I'm using the the numbers to cross reference them across the sheets and make sure everything is adding up. But please, just pretend they aren't there if you like, you really don't need to to anything with them at all.
And I would only add, read whatever you like and makes you happy. I personally like the added challenge of checking prompts off the list and slotting books in (like a puzzle, I love puzzles!!) so actively try and fill the most need ("currently 0:) books but it's your challenge so should do it however makes you happy.
ETA - if anyone has trouble spreadsheeting you're welcome to just post here in the thread and tell me to add books for you.

I really want to finish my individual challenge (as well as cross off some more for our team) so I've got three currently on the go.
I started Hench on audio yesterday. had the paper copy but found audio at library so have been listening in every spare moment to squeeze in more books.
Plus my GRC winner Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of Human Experience is surprising interesting so far - defining all the emotions we feel but not just "sad" or "happy" things like freudenfreude
And Take a Hint, Dani Brown is about half done.
I have the house to myself tonight so planning on many pages after work! Have a great day team!

I'm currently listening to Hench on audio which features a character that is injured and then uses a cane. We can use that for physical disability and check off Health.
I'm hoping to finish today! It's 14 hours long but I started yesterday and I've increased the speed settings because the narrator is really s l o w . . .

I don't have high hopes of accomplishing my plans but I'm going to attempt to finish my 3 books in progress today, and then read one Saturday and one Sunday .. but we'll see.

I finished The Postman Always Rings Twice which I've penciled in for a 3rd death prompt bc I didn't see where else to put it.
I've also put An Arrow to the Moon in the too young to work prompt. I had considered possibly putting it in the family secret prompt but I was slightly confused by the spreadsheet. The Family tab has the family secret prompt open but the Completed tab shows it filled. So I'll leave that alone for now.
I've also finished/binged Heartstopper: Volume One, Heartstopper: Volume Two, and Heartstopper: Volume Three. Super cute graphic novel series which gave me a ton of pages. I would have read Heartstopper: Volume Four too, had my library had it. Only the first book seems to fit prompts - sports and music. But I just realized something... would the volume number be considered part of the title? If so, that might work??

I'm snuggled in with coffee & books and happily reading.
I'll get my laptop out now and update too. Sherri, lmk if you want me to do anything with the sheet. we likely just need more tabs added because we've read SO much :)

I finished Dani, have just a couple hours left on Hench (will finish today while cleaning out the fridge) and am about half way through Overnight Guest! I think I may actually be able to finish everything I planned! Woot
I'll update my reads and double check again ;)

So just A book whose title starts with a letter in the word FAMILY plus 2 booksmarks left until we're done with round one!
This is where the bookmarks are going to start to slow us down, so don't worry if books don't fit prompts, just make sure to log the pages.
I've got two books on the go that I'm hoping to finish by tomorrow (ambitious plan, so we'll see ... )
Reading: Florida Woman because it looked like a quick easy read.
Listening: Skulduggery Pleasant
