PattyMacDotComma | 920 comments Dark Angel aka Wildflower Girls is promoted as gripping and unputdownable, but I lost my grip, skimmed to the end, and put it down quickly. D.K. Hood has a lot of fans and some very high ratings, so I guess it's just me.

I'm so very behind again, but I'm reading Vengeance Is Mine by Marie NDiaye. So far so good; an attorney just starting her rather quiet career is asked by a man to defend his wife, who is being prosecuted for murdering her children. The question is, of course, why wouldn't he go to a more seasoned attorney? Early days, but I'm liking it.

I've finished The Sanctuary: A Novel by Gustavo Abrevaya, an author from Argentina. The main character and his wife are on their way to a cabin getaway, but their car gets stuck in the desert. They find their way into a small town where she disappears overnight -- and he does everything possible to find her. But there's more going on in this town than meets the eye. More horror than crime, but very, very intelligent and well written.

In this comical 'Stephanie Plum' cozy mystery, the bail enforcement agent chases a diamond thief. A dog named Bob tags along with Stephanie during most of her hijinks.

Barbara | 1 comments Finished and reviewed:
Black Gun, Silver Star - This is a biography of Bass Reeves, who was a former slave turned US Marshal. The book itself was spotty - I think there wasn't enough solid biographical material for a good narrative, a lot of letters, news articles, documents, etc - but a series just started about Reeves - it was streaming, but the first 2 episodes aired on CBS on Sunday night. Pretty good overall.
Silence, by Thomas Perry - Perry is the author of the Jane Whitefield series about a Native woman who helps people disappear. Perry created a new character who has the same skill - the idea - a woman he helped disappear has to be found when someone is charged with her "murder" - was better than the book itself. The Whitefield series is better.
