Yesterday I read Locke & Key: Head Games #2. This is the second book of another good series, following the same characters of the first one, but from another perspective and maybe new revelations.
Veil of Doubt
by Sharon VirtsIn this historical mystery, based on a true story, a woman is suspected of killing her entire family (one or two at a time). She's finally put on trial for murdering her youngest daughter.
Good mystery with fine evocation of the Reconstruction Era. 4 stars

Now starting WAY DOWN ON THE HIGH LONELY by Don Winslow. This is the third novel in his Neal Carey series that was originally published in the early 90's.I have been picking up the 30th anniversary hardcover editions as they have been published this year.
I got more than I expected with Aussie author Alexander Thorpe's debut novel Death Leaves the Station. Western Australia, early 1900s, "Halfwell Station", a rural property, not a train stop. More Agatha Christie than 'outback noir', with humour to boot. Good read 😊
My review of Death Leaves the Station
The Guest List
by Lucy FoleyA current 'golden couple' plan a big glitzy wedding on a little island off the coast of Ireland.....and things turn tragic. This is a 'locked island' mystery with plenty of clues for the armchair detective.
Interesting array of characters. 3.5 stars

"The artist" is nameless, houseless (NOT homeless), and only 17 when she sees Lola in the Mirror. Award-winning Aussie author Trent Dalton's wonderful new novel shows the precarious life of people living on the edges.
My review of Lola in the Mirror with a couple of the unique illustrations

One of my favorite writers. I should reread that one.
Anyway, had a novel in hand, but was then reminded of a book I've owned at least three decades, Tales of Terror and the Supernatural by Wilkie Collins, so I put the novel down and started reading "The Dream-Woman".
