Just a quick note that I'm planning on starting again with reading the movies; this time it will be Hangover Square by Patrick Hamilton. Written in 1941, it was made into a film in 1945, which is available on youtube

Absolutely wonderful mystery by the late great Ross Thomas about 2 soldiers of fortune who chase a supposed $2,000,000 stolen in Saigon to a rotten little beach town in California. Flawless complex plot, excellent characters, and (of course) a beautiful woman. Highest recommendation -- 5 stars.

the premise of that book sounds like the authors have updated and moved the Dyatlov Pass Incident (1959) from Russia (btw, on Dead Mountain there) to New Mexico. That's so weird -- I was just talking to someone about the original story yesterday. I might have to check this book out in the future.
