Now starting BLOODY JANUARY by Alan Parks, the first novel in his Harry McCoy series set in Scotland during the 1970s.

If you have someone in your life who thinks they're hopeless, show them Beatrice Blue's cute book, Once Upon a Witch's Broom. It follows a pair of little witches, one confident, one anxious, from toddlerhood to old age.
My review of Once Upon a Witch's Broom with several of the illustrations
Now I have to read the next two! The Black House is the first of Peter May's popular Lewis Trilogy, and it was terrifying, moving, and compelling. Great read.
My review of The Black House
The Camera Man
is the latest DC Smith book and it’s another good one. My four star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Tonight I Said Goodbye
by Michael KorytaSet in Cleveland. PI and his partner are hired by a wealthy older man to find his missing daughter-in-law and her young daughter after his son (her husband) is killed. Very fine first novel showing good plotting and characterization. I liked it a lot, 4 stars.

This sounds intriguing.

that's why I like when someone says a little bit about the book they've just read in their post. I'm unlikely to follow a link to a review, but a couple of sentences about the book might be enough to pique my interest so I'll want to read it

I feel the same. That's why I always write a bit more about the books that I've read.
I read A Briefer History of Time It is a more accessible version of the author's original book. My 4 star review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
John Sandford’s Prey series is always fun, but Judgement Prey
isn’t one of the best. My 3.5 star review,https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
finished It Walks by Night by John Dickson Carr. I would never have guessed the how or the who, nor the rather ingenious plot twist the author throws in to shake things up. Once I finish reading Study for Obedience I'll be headed to Carr's second book in the Bencolin series, Castle Skull.
Magic Strikes by Ilona AndrewsGoing through my re-read of the Kate Daniels series and #3 is where the series begins to gain momentum. It's a great jumping off point for new readers.

I recently finished
The Hush by Sara Foster a dystopian thriller in a near future post-pandemic world in which still-births are bringing England to a state of martial law.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished my 93rd book, but lowered my goal from 140 to 120 books, because this fall I won't have enough time for many books (a visitor from Germany is coming in October).
Like a Sister
by Kellye GarrettGraduate student Lena Scott doesn't believe her half-sister Desiree died from an accidental heroin overdose, and Lena sets out to prove it was murder.
Set in New York City, which adds nice ambiance to the mystery novel. 3 stars

Magic Bleeds by Ilona AndrewsEven with a re-read, this is still one of my personal favorites in the series. It's probably also the latest point in the series in which a new reader could jump into the Kate Daniels world.

After I've seen the movie "Maigret", some days ago, today I started Pietr the Latvian, first adventure of commissioner Maigret.
The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store
is mostly a story about folks doing the right thing. One of my favorites of 2023. My review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

It was an okay read but the plotline was nothing that I hadn't read before in other novels. I probably would have liked it better if the main character was more likeable. The author gave him so many personal issues it was hard to root for him. Right now I don't have any plans to read the sequel novels.
Now starting CRIMSON LAKE by Candice Fox, the first novel in the Ted Conkaffey & Amanda Pharrell mystery series set in northern Australia. All three books in the series were nominated for the Ned Kelly Award as the Best Crime Novel of the Year, but the author has not written a new Conkaffey/Pharrell book since 2019.

I don't think I'll be in any hurry to start then, James.
Lenny Marks Gets Away With Murder is Aussie author Kerryn Mayne's debut novel, which shows how childhood trauma could break or make lonely primary school teacher Lenny.
My review of Lenny Marks Gets Away With Murder

read A Woman of No Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win World War III enjoyed it and recommend it to WWII history fans. My 4.5 star review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Murder by Degrees
is a well done start to a new historical mystery series. My four star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Temptation of Forgiveness
was a more enjoyable than some of the recent Brunetti series. My four star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Fan-bl**dy-tastic kids' book for everybody: The Book of Time by Clive Gifford. What the heck IS time anyway? Spend a little time enjoying science, history, philosophy, mythology, all about time, from cosmic to nano.
My review of The Book of Time with several illustrations
Bright Young Women
by Jessica KnollIn this fictionalized story of notorious serial killer Ted Bundy, Jessica Knoll focuses on the women more than the murderer.
Well written. 4 stars

About half way through Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and as with so many horror novels, it's turned into something of a mystery. If you like the supernatural creeping into a story filled with film trivia, much of the trivia concerning real films, then this may be for you.
Neither a true legal or action thriller, The Exchange
fell flat for me. My three star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I have always loved medical thrillers and I just finished reading Robin Cook's Vector. If you think about it, the events happening in her books are not too far from becoming a constant, threatening dose of reality.
