This is a new book and I think it will win a bunch of awards. Completely original, very entertaining, lots of humor, and the plot! Twists and turns o'plenty. The book revolves around a family reunion that goes from weird to worse. I loved it -- 5 stars.

I liked it because of the setting, the light mystery and the characters, including a couple of rather unexpected persons trying to solve the mystery: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Very entertaining novel about 4 60-something lady assassins who are R.E.D. A little over the top but lots of fun. 4 stars.

message 517: by Eva (new)

Eva (bookworm_eve) I haven't read that many books the last couple of months, but I am trying to get back at it!

In this genre I have only read:

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides.

Many readers were especially enthusiastic about the ending and I am now one of them. Very good!

4 stars: a bit slow at times for me, but overall a very good thriller with an (for me) unexpected ending.

Thomas (tom471) | 2003 comments I read Lucky Girl by Irene Muchemi-Ndiritu It is literary fiction, a story of a young woman who comes from Kenya, Africa to study at a US University. I enjoyed it and recommend it. My 4 star review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I believe it important to warn readers of controversial issues covered in the book and this list triggered a spoiler alert notice added to my review for the very first time. I wasn't aware that GR did this until now. I knew that I could warn about spoiler alerts, but not that GR would add it to my review. I try to always post non spoiler reviews.
Feel free to comment.

I'm currently reading A Helping Hand by Celia Dale (Valancourt) from 1966. Oh my god. This is dark. The other book I read by her, A Dark Corner is darker than dark, bleaker than bleak but a good read.

Finished A Helping Hand by Celia Dale. After all that the author put the central character through, the ending came up too quickly and was way too rushed. Up until then it was pretty good.

The book is structured as a series of connected stories that explore people's response to a deadly virus released from the Arctic tundra because of global warming. Goodreads lists it as one of the best sci-fi novels of 2022.

It's pretty good, but I'd call it sci-fi lite. 3.5 stars

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 286 comments By urban fantasy author Leigh Bardugo, Hell Bent (Alex Stern, #2) by Leigh Bardugo
Hell Bent #2 in the Alex Stern eventually-to-be trilogy. There's plenty of murderous mayhem for fans of crime fiction.

It's been a while since I had read a novel that completely gripped me from the beginning. It only took 7 pages for Hell Bent to sink its claws into me.

I've got to look into the Grishaverse now.
