She careers around in circles chasing seagulls while I mull over the finer points of the story, muttering to myself. By the time I reach the far end of the beach, somehow the characters will have sorted themselves out and pointed me in the right direction. I act the story out as I'm walking, which probably makes me look a bit bonkers - like Sarah Woodruff in the French Lieutenant's Woman. Though I don't wear a black cape.(less)

“There's a book for everyone, even if they don't think there is. A book that reaches in and grabs your soul.”
Veronica Henry, How to Find Love in a Bookshop

“So that was why people read. Because books explained things: how you thought, and how you behaved, and made you realise you were not alone in doing what you did or feeling what you felt.”
Veronica Henry, How to Find Love in a Bookshop

“Books are more precious than jewels. She truly believed this. What did a diamond bring you? A momentary flash of brilliance. A diamond scintillated for second; a book could scintillate forever.”
Veronica Henry, How to Find Love in a Bookshop
