That’s why I usually end up with a cascade of reviews all on the same day - just coincidentally finished a batch of books and comics at the same time.
Especially with some of these 700-1200 page monsters. I need a break while reading them, so I hop onto something else. Otherwise it feels like a slog.
I'm back in space opera after a little hiatus with Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell. I've recently discovered and become enamored with m/m romance, and Winter's Orbit brings it to my favorite genre!
Was planning on reading Doc Smith's final Skylark book but I got sidetracked after listening to "One Night in Bangkok". The song put me in the mood to grab issue four of the Charlie Chan Mystery Magazine as the lead novel is set at the finals of a chess tournament.
I’ve been reading fantasy lately, but the new Ish book is out! School Days by Nathan Lowell. Ebook on Amazon anyway. We have read several other books about Ish in this group, starting with Quarter Share
Ooooo new Bob and Nikki book too! Shipping Out by Jerry Boyd. Now why couldn’t they have dropped before the long weekend instead of after? Ah well….
Just finished the last book in a 12-book Perry Rhodan miniseries, MISSION SOL. (There are two 12-book MISSION SOL miniseries; I just finished the first one.) Lots of action and drama in this wrap up!https://amzn.to/3oAChvR

currently reading The Lion and the Unicorn by Christopher G Nuttall https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...#15 in the series, I've been reading it nonstop for the past few months. So far, it's a 3.5/5, but it remains a decent read

Just started Nathan Lowell's new book in the Solar Clipper universe; School Days - good read so far.
I enjoyed both School Days by Nathan Lowell and Shipping Out by Jerry Boyd. Then flipped to fantasy for a while, but now I’m starting Hellspark by Janet Kagan for the June Themed Pick. This will be my sixth(?) time reading it.
I finished rereading Hellspark a couple of days ago. Now I’m reading a new to me fantasy series, on book 2 of 4.
Taking a short break from sci-fi to read The Girl on the Train
by Paula Hawkins
. This would be my first time reading this book. Someone told me it was also a movie that was released in 2016. I've seen this book come up in my Goodreads feed many times, so I finally decided to read it.
Finished the fantasy series. Got my Kickstarter copy of Solar Flare which is an anthology edited by Joshua Palmatier. I think it might be this link Solar Flare: Solarpunk Stories. Will likely take my time on the anthology, since it’s easy to get distracted each time I finish one of the stories.
Edit: yes that’s the right link but it gives as author just one of the short story authors when I search using add book/author.

And now Jerry Boyd of the Bob & Nikki series just submitted #35 Joy to the Squirrels to Amazon, so that should appear sometime in the next 24 hours.
Edit: and it’s up on Amazon

Reading Embers of War by Gareth L. Powell. I quite liked the other book of his I read, and at the 1/4 mark this one is equally as good. Very much in the Space Opera vein, focusing on the crew of the rescue ship Trouble Dog, a sentient former warship that quit the service after a particularly nasty battle.
I am currently reading Alien: Covenant
by Alan Dean Foster
. I have only watched all the movies in this franchise and recently (within the past few years) started reading the books and comics that have been published.I am also reading a novelization of X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga
, one of my all-time favorite comic book story arcs. This book is written by Stuart Moore
. It modernizes the story a bit which is set in the 80s to the 2000s (i.e. rampant cell phone and social media use, which was not part of the original tale because these things were not invented yet, or at least common household things!).After these two, I will be getting back to the group reads, I just took a break after Murderbot (and anxiously awaiting the next installment for that to be published!)

Heading down to Victoria next weekend, partly because I have an appointment at the cancer clinic and partly to pick up this year's Christmas ornaments from Hallmark. Probably will take that Poul Anderson book I have been reading for ages so as to get it finished.

I won't catch fire, at least not yet. This visit is to see which treatment I am going for. It is between surgery (removal of the prostate) or having radioactive pellets implanted that will destroy the cancer, I hope. Wife is going with me to the appointment as she wants to know what is going on and she works in health records here in Nanaimo so knows more about this stuff than I do.

Seriously, though, good luck. I hear the 10-year survival rate for prostate cancer is 98-99%, so once you’re over the initial treatment things start looking up.
But also don’t catch fire. Parts of the Arctic are burning now. o.0
Currently reading CITY OF RUINS by Kristine Kathryn Rusch, book 2 in her Diving Into the Wreck series. Addresses very well the "investigation of a mystery artifact" trope familiar to many SF readers.
Hello! I just finished Endymion by Dan Simmons. It’s a re-read, and it is one of my favorite Sci-Fi series. I plan to complete the re-read of the series, The Rise of Endymion is yet to go, but I took a break from that and I’m now reading Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. Stay cool, everyone.
Rite of Passage by Alexei Panshin. It's been sitting in my to-read pile for years and I finally started it.
I finished Joy to the Squirrels by Jerry Boyd. This one had more action, and more aliens both bad guy aliens and good guy ones, and even cute alien kids wandering around the ship.
Next up for me is the new Ish book: Working Class by Nathan Lowell, that just dropped today.

I am reading the Major Bhaajan Series; a Sub-series of the Saga of the Skolian Empire by Catherine Asaro. https://www.goodreads.com/series/1415...Recently finished
Children of the Dust
Undercity
The Bronze Skies
While i wait for book 3 & 4 in the Bhaaj series i will read
Magic Claims by Ilona Andrews.
Finished Working Class by Nathan Lowell although my kindle can’t find it on Goodreads and can’t even let me submit a five star rating for it to Amazon. Very odd.
The book kept me up quite late, finally managing to stop about halfway and get a few hours of sleep. There’s more action in this one than School Days but it is still primarily characterization and world building, and trying to figure out how to handle the problems that arise from having so many green crew members. Book 3 should be out in August.

You should be able to find Working Class in Goodreads now.

I am currently reading Baptism of Fire by Andrzej Sapkowski. I had just finished Alien: Covenant by Alan Dean Foster which prompted me to also start Alien: Covenant Origins also by Alan Dean Foster.
Just finished Embers of War by Gareth Powell. Really good Space Opera told from multiple viewpoints.
Rereading School Days by Nathan Lowell for the July Limited Pick and because I enjoyed Working Class so much I didn’t want to leave that universe.
Finished rereading School Days and still needed more of that universe, so now I’m rereading Working Class.
Currently reading: The Ringworld Engineers (Ringworld, #2); Niven, Larry
The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh (Star Trek: The Eugenics Wars, #1); Cox, Greg
Space: 1999 Year One; Tubb, E.C.
I am about to start Persepolis Rising, kind of excited since it's all new events in The Expanse universe for me that aren't covered on the show. I did it in reverse order, I saw the show, loved the show and started reading the books.
I'm currently reading Chaos Vector which is the second book in the Protectorate series by Megan E. O'Keefe. I really enjoyed the first one Velocity Weapon and I also read the first book she released for her next series The Blighted Stars and I'm looking forward to the next book in that one too. I'm also slowly making my way through the Old Man's War series and The Expanse series. There is just so much good stuff out there right now and so many classics I have yet to get through. Excited for this group so I can get more ideas for what to add to the top of my read list.
Finished my reread of Working Class by Nathan Lowell, read a new fantasy (#6 in its series), and then I really wanted to be back in the ToeHolds so now I’m rereading Suicide Run by Nathan Lowell.
Eventually I’ll be rereading A Beautiful Friendship by David Weber for the July group read but I’m not mentally ready for it yet.

Finished rereading Suicide Run. Now starting my reread of A Beautiful Friendship by David Weber, for the July Reader Pick.
I just finished up CJ Cherryh’s Chanur Saga omnibus, which collects the first three books in the Chanur series. Really great world building, alien politics and fast-paced action scenes.

I am also listening to Blood Cull by John Conroe which is book 18 in the Demon Accords series.
Lastly, on my Kindle I am reading The Ascendant Wars 1: Hellfire: A Military Sci-fi Series by Rhett C. Bruno the first book in the Ascendant Wars Series.
A few friends/contacts ask me how I can read multiple books in the same timeframe, and my usual answer is this: I can read a print book, an eBook, and listen to an Audio Book, and it's all good. My brain can partition the stories via chapters, similar to watching different TV shows- you progress episode by episode or chapter by chapter and keep the stories logically separated. I can even throw in a comic book series or graphic novel too and still keep track of it all!
