Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments Tessa Bailey manages to pack some sweetness, a bit of humour and a lot of explicit sex into her very predictable marriage-of-convenience novella, Same Time Next Year. 2★s

Carolyn | 9836 comments Instead of a police procedural Lisa Regan's 19th Detective Josie Quinn novel is a psychological suspense placing Josie in a locked room type mystery in the mountains during a retreat for people suffering PTSD

Kerri_M | 590 comments I haven't written any thoughts on what I have read for a long time, work got very hectic and I fell out of the habit. But thought I would give it another go in 2024, starting a bit early.

Just finished The Malcontenta by Aussie Author Barry Maitland #2 in the Brock # Kolla series . Published 1995, and set in England around the same time, a police procedural. (series currently up to #14, last book published 2021)

Some themes were of its time (AIDS not Covid, and tech a bit dated), but corruption, homophobia and inequality of women in the workplace are all still (unhappily) with us, so still relevant today.

Have had this (paperback) book to read for a couple of years, but have put it off mainly because of the very small print. I shouldn't have, because I enjoyed the book, and the print didn't get any bigger with the years, nor did my eyesight improve.

Next in the series I can get in e-book (large print on demand), so probably won't be as long between reads in this series for me.

The Malcontenta (Brock & Kolla #2) by Barry Maitland ★★★☆

P.S - I think this book is out of print, if anyone wants to take up the series, let me know and I will post it to you. (BYO magnifier)

Well written Kerri - you made me laugh with and the print didn't get any bigger with the years, nor did my eyesight improve.

Because I find the print gets smaller as I get older ;) Glad you enjoyed it too!

I think he's more an actor than a writer Rowan. Bad luck though. I wasn't tempted when I saw it.

The Memories of Marlie Rose by Morgan Lee Miller
An interesting story about a woman who chooses to have certain memories removed. The novel works to a great extent.

Everyone is different though, so you might have enjoyed it more than you did :) At least you had a go. And thank you!

Andrea | 2163 comments Last week I was swept away by The Eight Mountains. It's only a small book but it packed a big, emotional punch. It made me think of Claire Keegan's books in a way.
