MaryG2E (goodreadscommaryg2e) | 934 comments Cold People by Tom Rob Smith Here's my review for the dystopian novel Cold People by Tom Rob Smith, for which I scored 5 stars.
It is the kind of story that won't appeal to all readers, but I found it highly thought-provoking.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Whoever selected Blazey Best, Jeannie Gee and Maddy Withington to narrate the audio version of Louise Wolhuter’s brilliant debut novel, An Afterlife for Rosemary Lamb, got it exactly right. These three really bring the story to life.

Rachel (mimbza) | 697 comments The Real Beatrix Potter by Nadia Cohen The Real Beatrix Potter by Nadia Cohen is a biography of the famous children’s author and illustrator Beatrix Potter. It gives an insight into the repressed Victorian life the highly intelligent Beatrix led, her quest to find fulfilment and independence, and her passion to conserve the beautiful Lake District so dear to her heart. Here is my review

Rachel (mimbza) | 697 comments The Untold by Courtney Collins The Untold by Australian author Courtney Collins is an historical fiction that could be called an Australian Western or even Australian Noir. It is an imaginative retelling of the story of bush ranger Jessie Hickman born in 1890, who escaped to the bush after killing her husband. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Not a book review, but still something readers might use:
I’ve had reading lights before but they were mostly a bit cumbersome or unreliable and fairly quickly ended up in a drawer.
I was convinced to give these new ones a try. I’ve been using them for a while now, so I thought I’d offer an honest opinion.
What I really like about the Glocusent LED Neck Reading Light:
• It’s very light (128g) so you barely notice you’re wearing it.
• The arms are very flexible so you can aim the lights where you want.
• The lights easily light up the whole double page of a trade paperback
• The unit charges via a USB-C cord so there’s no messing with dead batteries. It takes about 2 hours to fully charge.
• When fully charged it lasts between 8 hours (torch bright) and 76 hours (perfect for night-time reading). depending on the colour and brightness you choose.
• It offers three different colours of light so you can decide what’s easiest on your eye or suits your needs or the conditions.
• Each colour of light can be set to three levels of brightness.
• You can set the timer to go off after 30 minutes.
• LED means little or no heat generated
• It would be great for travelling: light, compact, easy to charge, long lasting
• Use for hands free work that needs light, needlework, knitting…
• Use to illuminate when you don’t want to turn the houselights on
What I like less about the LED Neck Reading Light:
• I haven’t come across anything so far.

Here's me using it for my bedtime read:

On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong

Couldn't help myself with a pastiche review or rather I twisted all of the book's metaphors into a review. Not sure whether being able to use the metaphors like that makes them more profound or more hollow.

Carolyn | 9840 comments Robert Bryndza's first stand-alone thriller Fear the Silence by Robert Bryndza Fear the Silence is an action packed psychological suspense. Quite different to his Erika Foster series and may need some suspension of belief but nevertheless thrilling!

Carolyn | 9840 comments I enjoyed this novel by AA Catherine Jinks more than some others I've read by her. A woman who is a covid-19 contact tracer during the start of the pandemic is herself in danger of being traced by a man who she and her daughter have been hiding from for years.
