Joseph | 1651 comments And now is the time when we read Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances by Neil Gaiman.

(EDIT: Oops. Wrong collection.)

I've been recommending The Martian to everyone.

message 54: by Mili (new)

Mili (miliness) That does it, I'm gonna read The Martian after Words of Radiance! Got so curious now...halfway the current book...its addictive...

Bought The Name of the Wind yesterday, its fancying my hallway up =p

message 55: by Matt (new)

Matt | 20 comments Recently finished The Warrior Prophet, which I think was better than The Darkness That Comes Before, more happened with the intrigue and mystery side of things. It was still a pretty heavy read and took me a while, so now I'm trying Among Thieves as it seems a bit more fast paced and lighter.

Seems like an interesting book, I might try it. Thanks for mentioning it. I´m quite a dummy when it comes to new releases :)

I know.. me too actually! But Kazuo Ishiguro is an exception, since he's one of my favourite authors.

message 60: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances -- as expected, lots of great stuff -- and now it's time for some Terry Pratchett, beginning with Raising Steam.

TS Chan (tschan) Heather wrote: "I couldn't stand Tigana, but almost everyone else I know loved it. :)

I am having problems with Tigana to be honest. About a-third through and I had to put it down for the moment. Helped myself to a Sanderson short story, Firstborn, which I really liked. And the rest of the short stories in Shadows Beneath: The Writing Excuses Anthology

message 62: by Monica (new)

Monica Davis Waiting in the library queue for Assassin's Quest; started The Very Best of Charles de Lint while I wait.

message 63: by Heather (new)

Heather (bruyere) I read the author's explanation of the point he was trying to get across in Tigana and was rather disappointed I had not understood when I read the book. It really made a lot more sense in retrospect. Perhaps I'm just dense. :)

message 64: by Mary (new)

Mary | 25 comments star wars novels as well as graphic!

message 65: by Andreas (new)

Andreas Finished Unfettered - only 1 star, read here, why.

message 67: by Jasprit (new)

Jasprit (jas4u) I'm reading The Knight by Gene Wolf. I can't put it down, it's the first book in quite a while that's kept me so intrigued.

Andreas, have you popped into the Book of the Month thread for Unfettered?

I'm reading Waylander. Don't know whether it was due to a tiring week or the writing, but until I reached halfway I struggled to care.

message 69: by Bill (new)

Bill (kernos) | 324 comments Well I finished The Complete Lyonesse, 1000 pages of totally satisfying mythic/legendary fiction. My Review

I stated another older epic fantasy omnibus Legends of the Drenai by David Gemmell. It in includes books 1, 2 and 4 of his The Drenai Saga, a series of 11 books. I may have read the in the early 90's.

Thanks for the reminder! That thread hasn't got too much discussion in January but I added my 2 cents anyways :)

message 71: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Finished The Speed of Dark. Ended up loving it, but it had its sad moments.

Reading Half the World and enjoying it so far.

message 72: by Marina (new)

Marina Finlayson | 14 comments The Speed of Dark is a wonderful novel! Moving and very thought-provoking.

message 73: by Evan (last edited Mar 17, 2015 09:42AM) (new)

Evan Just finished The Red Knight by K.T. Davies. Was a little rough here and there, but overall a very enjoyable read. The worst part was finishing it at 4a.m. to discover the sequel doesn't even have an expected date. Very sad.

(Author responded to message saying 2015) Yay!

message 74: by Amy (new)

Amy Sanderson | 129 comments I'm halfway through Magician now, so I'm taking a break to read something else. I've just picked up The Invisible Library, which I suspect has only been published in the UK, but is getting some good buzz at the moment. Librarian spies!

message 75: by Michele (new)

Michele I haven't been reading much. I finally started watching Person of Interest and ended up binge watching all 3 1/2 seasons and now I'm caught up - OMG I love this show!

But I did read a bit - I abandoned for now The Shadow Master - wasn't bad, just not very interesting.

I also started and then abandoned The Atrocity Archives on audio - I liked the story but jeeze there are tons of acronyms and I just got annoyed by them - I'll have to try reading it later, eyes can skim those easier. Also I'm a bit OD'd on urban fantasy I think.

I read and finished The Paper Magician. This one was fun fluff with a strong romance subplot and I'm liking the magic system. Definitely going to continue the series.

I also read The Mermaid's Sister. This was a strange one - the idea was good, but the story was a bit weak and the characters were one-dimensional. It kind of dragged at times. Can't explain exactly what's wrong with it, but something was off. Anyways, not terrible.

Now reading DarkShip Thieves, pulpy space opera. Liking, not loving it.

message 78: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Raising Steam (glorious as always) and am moving on to A Blink of the Screen: Collected Short Fiction, which contains most or all of Terry Pratchett's shorter works (including one story he wrote when he was 13).

Andreas Monica wrote: "Finally made it to the front of the library queue for The Night Circus. Time to see what all the "buzz" is about."

Time for some short reads, I'll start off with The Martian ~

message 85: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (allrianne) Spent the last couple of weeks reading the Tawny Man trilogy and finished last night. I really enjoyed it and didn't want it to be over.
I've got no idea what I'm going to read next, even though I've got a pile in my to read list. I think I'll wait a few days before choosing something new.

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished A Blink of the Screen: Collected Short Fiction -- if you like Pratchett, and Granny Weatherwax in particular, you really need this collection so that you can read "The Sea and Little Fishes", if nothing else -- and started something dramatically different in tone: The Barrow by Mark Smylie.

message 88: by Kieron (new)

Kieron Prince Just finished reading the first two books of The Stormlight Archive. They were both a fantastic read and now I have to wait in anticipation for the third.

Not read that one. I'm being harsh, it was alright just left me annoyed. Don't want to say why as will spoil.

Which Red Queen The Red Queen, or is it another?

I'm on an A-Z of one word titles, so while I'm off with a cold I've read Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast and Earthfall.

message 99: by Margret (new)

Margret The first of the two. It's a YA book I believe
