MountainKat | 31763 comments Here is your next task!

Task 13 - 64. Read 6 books not set on a continent of a teammate. Space does not count - must be a real continent.

Determine the continents the members of your team lives on, using the 7 continent model. (You can look on wikipedia for a definition.) Select books that are not set on any continent of a teammate. This is not a team decision, you can use any continent on which a member of your team does not reside. Remember to let me know how you know your book qualifies, be it title, precis, book details, tags or lists. I need to know where to look to confirm your books.

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Of course...the only 2 books on my M&G list that are not in N. America (but still on Earth 😁) are too short to qualify for the challenge. Oh well, easy enough to find something that works, and since I'm totally open I'm sure I can find 2 (or even 3 if necessary) relatively short ones.

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments If there are multiple settings but mostly set in South Africa does that still work? I really want to read From the Jump by Lacie Waldon but it starts out in California. But what I can tell most is set in South Africa.

message 305: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments I'm not at all sure on that one! I'll drop a message in the Q&A thread and hopefully Kat will see it and answer soon!

Courtney | 2932 comments Is there some trick for getting to shelves with the new version. Some of the books have "show all" at the end of the list of genres but some don't. I refuse to believe so many of these books only have 5 tags. I wish I could get my phone back on the old version 😭

message 309: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2932 comments Ok. I found a work around. It's ridiculous, but it works. If you click on "more editions", it'll bring up the old list view, and you can replace "editions" in the url with "shelves". Absolutely ridiculous, but only thing I've found to work so far.

Hey, at least you found something that works! I've only come across that problem a few times and it wasn't anything I was really invested in reading, but it was still frustrating! I need to make a note of this...

Chan | 5093 comments Hey! i got back late Saturday evening, but I was really upset. That's why i wasn't talkative. The airline lost my bag. I won't bore you with the details of how it happened, although even the agent said it was weird. But the bag they lost was part of a set I got from my deceased grandparents. I got the set almost 5 years ago and it was my first time using it. I was distraught. After a lot of perseverance, i finally got a really nice agent on the phone.

They found my bag this morning. It landed in San Fran at 10am PST. landed in ATL at 6pm EST and was delivered to my door at 9pm EST.

I am so happy. It was lost for close to 48 hours, but it felt like much, much longer.

i finished my book and will post in a moment.

I'm so glad they found it, Chan! It's bad enough when they lose your luggage and it's just your regular stuff, but when it's something like that with so much sentimental value, it's awful!

Glad they found it and got it back to you safe and sound! I had a bag lost once, and they dropped it off at my dad's back door without telling me...and it snowed that night. So I woke up to a frozen bag 😑.

MountainKat | 31763 comments Here is your next task!

Task 14 - 102. Read 8 book published in odd months and odd years.

For this task you are using the initial publication date. If there is a date listed at the top of the editions page use it, otherwise the qualification will be from the earliest dated English language edition. The books selected need to be published in odd months (January, March, May, July, September, November) and odd years. For example, books initially published in January 2019 and July 2017 will work, but books initially published in March 2020 and December 2019 will not.

Chan | 5093 comments I can read two or three books this time.

message 326: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments I should be able to read 2 or 3 also. I make no promises though...I got both my flu shot and new Covid booster this morning, and right now all I want to do is take a nap!

message 327: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Yikes. did you use different arms?
my aunt and uncle got both on same day. My aunt used different arms and she was fine. my uncle used the same arm for both and was very sick for about 48 hours.

I think it depends more on the individual than whether you have them in one or both arms. I've always done the same arm when I've had more than one at a time, and fortunately I tend to have very mild side effects. Usually a sore arm, sometimes some minor fatigue, and once a headache for a few hours, but nothing bad at all. This time the pharmacist recommended different arms because since the Covid booster is so new they wanted to be able to tell which shot caused the problem if there was site pain, so I agreed. I'm not expecting anything much beyond what I've had in the past, but I also have nothing much planned for today or tomorrow, just in case...well, other than watching baseball since the Mariners are in the playoffs for the first time in 21 years!

message 329: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments ohh okay. My aunt made a correlation between arms and sickness. I hope you have mild side effects...if any.

Good luck to your team!

message 332: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments lol i didn't think about that. But no, i thought the response would be interesting b/c we read a lot of romance...

I'll be in the UK - Scotland, Highlands, London, Bath and we are thinking about Wales too. I wanted to add Ireland, but it would be better to do that separately.

I'm so frickin excited 😍

message 333: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Oh wow, I would be too! I've never had much of a desire to travel outside of the US, but I have always wanted to go to the UK...more for Scotland and Wales than for England (don't ask me why, I have no clue).

Is this trip work, pleasure, or a combination of the two?

message 334: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments Wow that sounds like an absolute dream trip. Earlier in the year my family and I went to Ireland and it was wonderful. But my dream has always been Scotland for some reason. Lol I hope to one day get there. I hope you have a terrific trip!

This one is all pleasure. Some family members are coming along. We are super pumped!

Ooh Ireland. Liz, I'm jealous. I want to go to Galway and Dublin. I hope when I'm visiting, Roarke will be visiting too 😜

message 337: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 768 comments Ireland was absolutely beautiful. The only bad thing was we tried to do everything in a 2 week period so we didn’t get to stay very long in any one place. But we did get to stay in 2 castles so I can’t complain. Lol we listen to a lot of Ed Sheeran while driving around. 😁Especially in Galway.

Courtney | 2932 comments I've got Pompous Player by Brenda Rothert to start. It's November 2021.

Omg I cannot even with that book. 30 pages was more than enough. Dude doesn't even play hockey anymore. But of course he's perfectly perfect. Retired at the top of his game, then joined the military and was a hero, and now he's back in town to run a huge company....and of course rescue the poor heroine who was just evicted and is raising a baby for her dead friend 😒.

Going to try Charge (Steel Bones Motorcycle Club, #1) by Cate C. Wells . Initially published July 2019

message 339: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments That book has a lot going on lol. retired hockey player, war hero, business mogul. With a side of poor heroine with a baby that is not hers who needs to be rescued.
I think they left out politician and some sort of disability.

I'm guessing they've had a lot of negative feedback about things they think they can fix, because it had this message at the top of the page: Hello! Thank you for your patience as we continue to make improvements and prepare to bring the new book page experience to all our members. Share your feedback or visit this help page for information about the new book page. I've been on the new page for well over a month, so there's definitely something going on!

Courtney | 2932 comments I was so happy yesterday when the old page popped back up! I was in the middle of searching for a book, so at first I thought I just happened to find one page that hadn't updated and I was trying to figure out how to keep the cookies or whatever to make every page like that again 🤣. Whatever the reason, I hope it stays like this! I saw a lot of people complaining when they finally made everyone switch so 🤷‍♀️. It's doesn't make sense to update a page view and remove so much functionality anyway. I've never understood what the point of the update was.

In other news, I loooove my book. I was up til 2 am reading because I couldn't put it down. Paying for it a bit this morning 🤣. But I should be done this afternoon.

I'm not done with my 2nd book yet, but I do have a 3rd one in mind that's only a couple of hours and would be able to finish both tonight if needed. Liz, if you can't find something relatively short that you can finish before tomorrow morning, I'm fine doing a 3rd...just let me know! Actually, I'll probably listen to it either way since I'll need something short to fill in tonight (I don't know how to take the dog for a walk without an audiobook to keep me company 😁).
