World Mysteries Readathon - Team Chupacabra

I notice you have three books only marked for the translated from French/French author prompt.
Emily has The Birth of a Theorem and I have La Maison de Claudine (I'll finish my book today) for that prompt, so I was wondering: Do any of your 3 books fit any other categories, like "translated from non-English language," "set in France," "time period you want to learn more about," and another prompt nobody has books for yet?

I will look into that. I am reading a book that will fit the French author prompt. So if I need to fill out other prompts after that I can changed books.

Now If I understand we have enough book for the ‘Read 3 books written by a French author and/or that was translated from French’ prompt but are still missing book set in summer? if yes, I have borrowed 2 books from the library that works for that prompt. Let me know if you want me to read 1 or 2. I also borrowed a book that could work for the nonfiction prompt.
And I have one set in France.

(1) Fevered Star: 2nd book to finish indigenous prompt
(2) Kamusari Tales Told at Night: trans. from Japanese, rural, less than 1k ratings
(3) The Betel Nut Tree Mystery: character with physical impairment
(4) A BIG MAYBE: I may be able to finish a book for the "gemstone" prompt but it's a YA fantasy and I usually don't enjoy that genre.
I will try.
Possible books (Not sure I'll be able to read much more than the above but...)
*The Paper Bark Tree Mystery -Read a 2nd book about a character with physical impairment to finish that prompt, unless somebody would like to help with that prompt.
*Read 2 books with a map in the front to finish that prompt, unless somebody wishes to help with that prompt
Otherwise, I'll wait and see what prompts need love after several more days.

Lorraine,
I copied your four completed books from the Planning to Completed tabs. :D
I'll leave you to add those books to the Tracking tab at your own convenience.

Do we still need this prompt?

You are still planning to read Un jour je m'en irai sans avoir tout dit and Petit traité de vie intérieure? If you read either, then that will complete the 'French author or translated from French' prompt. I have put Geai on the 'Set in France' prompt. Hope that's okay.
We will possibly need books for the summer prompt since so far only Emily's The Cousins is assigned to it. I also see your Zec la croche fits it. So if you read one more for this, that will complete the summer prompt.

I don't think Gold will work for gemstones.

That's some great selection.
I'll possibly have time to fit in 1-2 more books. I will try to find something for the physical impairment prompt.

I will start Of Mice and Men as the second book for the banned book prompt today.

If a team finishes all of the prompts for the readathon then yes you can use any book to stack up page number points. Last year’s readathon had bonus prompts for teams who completed all of their prompts and this year I’ve decided to forgo extra prompts so that everyone can read whatever will help them in other challenges for the year! Basically, I’d like teams to focus on the prompts before moving into solely page number points.

Are you more likely to enjoy a book set in a historical time period? If so, that would be an easy swap.

I am actually reading Un jour je m'en irai sans avoir tout dit so that will completed the French author.
I have finished Zec la croche wich is good for the summer prompt. I am also waiting for a book title The summer book. so that should cover summer.
I will not be able to read as much today and tomorrow but will try to do some.

I will not be able to access the spreadsheet on my computer before tomorrow afternoon. Trying to make changes in my iPad is outside of my expertise

Buffy Sainte-Marie: The Authorized Biography starts out as a tragic story so I switched my second book by an indigenous author to Fevered Star, which I finished just now. Really enjoyed it!
I see that Canadian Dragon completed a book for the "map" prompt, so I have re-added my "map" book to the Planning tab so we can finish that prompt. Yay!
For the rest of the readathon, I might be able to read one short-ish book each day. Will check to see which prompts still need help.

Lilac,
Thank you! Yesterday, the gemstone prompt had no fits, so I wanted to try to bite the bullet but I'm VERY relieved it won't be necessary.
I've added instead two books in my favorite genre (historical mystery), but might replace one of them later. :D

Ushashi
That would be great if you find something. It's more fun when we finish prompts together! :D
I'll check again in a few days. We all have our reading moods and if you'd rather read something else, I can always read the next book in the series (after Betel Nut Mystery).
Also, I'll definitely be reading Kamusari Tales Told at Night, which is translated from Japanese.
But it also fits the "less than 1,000 ratings."
Where would you like me to slot it?

I see that you haven't typed in your page count or audio hours for the first five days.
Would you like some assistance with that?

Lorraine
I loved Girl with the Pearl Earring. Have you read it?
Wikipedia defines it as a gemstone but, helas, I've already read this book. It's a historical fiction set in Holland, around 275 pages.
And of course there's the film adaptation starring Colin Firth. :D
Also, NOBODY should be trying to do stuf on the spreadsheet from an IPad. I moved your books over to the Completed tab earlier today. <3

Can you believe we're already halfway through our 10-day readathon.
How's everyone doing? What's your favorite book so far? Read any duds the rest of us should avoid?
Perhaps we should all review our books on the Planning tab in another 2-3 days and remove any books we won't be able to finish by 11:59pm, Sunday, June 12th.
A big hug to Ushashi for keeping us all on track. 🧡

That will be wonderful, Leslie.
I'm always happy to input spreadsheet stuff on your behalf, friend!
Don't stress the spreadsheet at all.
Depending on who's online at the time (Ushashi or me), one of us can easily input your info. ;d

Leslie
To reply to someone's comment, look at the bottom right of their comment. You will see two options: reply and flag.
When you click on "reply," you'll open a new post which automatically displays the opening 2-4 lines of the original comment as an italicized quote.
How to reply to a specific part of a comment
Sometimes I want to reply to a specific part of someone's comment which doesn't appear when I simply click reply.
When you click on reply, the text you're quoting appears between quotation marks. To display different text as a quote, simply delete the original text then copy/paste the part of the comment you wish to respond to.
Haha, it sounds a little complicated, but it's easy after you try it a few times. Feel free to experiment in our thread. 😊

Emily
Woot woot! 🥳

I'm so glad that book was already among your TBRs and also available at your library. what perfect luck.
Also, happy birthday, Lorraine! May you enjoy a wonderful day!

Happy birthday, Lorraine!!

I think oshizu can put Kamusari tales on the less than 1000 ratings prompt. With Emily reading The Loveliest Dead, it will be completed.

Yeah please put it up here. Whoever of us is online will update the spreadsheet.

I enjoy this challenge even tough I would have prefered to know the prompts in advance to better prepare ! ahahah
Favorites book so far are Good girl, Bad girl by Michael Robotham. I just loved this author. And I thought that Un jour je partirai, sans avoir tout dit was very well written.
What about you and other team members?

Emily and Ushashi
Thank you! I will add a blue code to my Kamusari book, for sure!

What do you mean, Lorraine? The prompts were announced at least a month before the readathon actually started.
P.S. Nice job with your reply! To distinguish the quote from your reply, make sure to keep the /i code with caret brackets <> at the end of your quote.

Ushashi
Lorraine will be reading A Girl with the Pearl Earring for the gemstone prompt. Hope it's okay, but I moved Dragonfly in Amber to the prompt you originally assigned it (historical period, 18th c).

We have yet to hear from Leslie about her progress but in case she doesn't have time to finish The Call of Cthulu for the 2nd Team Mission (mythical creature0, perhaps Canadian Dragon's Sea Witch can be moved there instead?
It's just a backup plan.

I'd like to request, on our team leader Ushashi's behalf, that we all review the books we've added to the spreadsheet.
With only four days left in the readathon, we need to figure out as a team which prompts we can realistically finish by Sunday night.
We don't get any points for a half-finished prompt, so let's make Ushashi's life easier by giving her a clear picture of our reading plans for the next four days.

I was looking at our spreadsheet today and saw that you've been assigned both Team Books, including the 394-page 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
If you'd rather read something else for your fourth book, I can easily (re)read Banana Yoshimoto's Kitchen which is only 160 pages.
I would hate for your last readathon days to feel like a slog. I tried to read a biography for the indigenous prompt and it was taking me FOREVER; then I switched to a fantasy by an indigenous author and I finished that book in one day. :D
Anyway, let me know.

I've reread the readathon rules concerning points and saw that we get a point for every page read of completed books.
Pages Read: 1 POINT PER PAGE (only count pages for completed books)
Accordingly, I've reformatted our spreadsheet with extra rows for the multi-book prompts. I have gone ahead and added my page count for the books I've completed. For those of you listening to audio books, you have my sympathies.
Oh wait, the wonderful Lilac counted our total pages (including audio hours) as 8,852 pages in her post. I confess that I've since recalculated my Pages Read so our total is 8,791.
Note: We're still waiting on Leslie's progress.
Usashi, can we skip posting page count for individual reads and calculate Pages Read by following Lilac's example? That would be SOOOO much easier.
Just in case, I've reformatted the spreadsheet and added my pages for the books I've finished.

Just finished The Girl with the pear earring! Loved it! Thanks for the suggestions and another prompts filled!

I have not added other books as I am unshure what is left to be done. But with 4 days left, I can add another 3 books (excluding the book for the summer prompt) as long as they are around 250 pages...
Ushashi, Oshizu,
if you can point a direction for me I'll look for another book I can start tomorrow. Do not worry, I will not read a book I do not like. As you say, it is not the time to fall into a reading slump ...

Just wanted to check in and let you know the Readathon Team Progress thread has been posted and is ready for team leaders to update their team’s reading so far! Be sure to comment your team’s progress before the readathon ends so that your team can earn bragging rights and post-readathon awards!!

Thanks so much for dropping by.
One of our teammates never showed up and another hasn't posted their progress yet.

question: would PTSD count as impairment?"
I don't think so. It's a mental health condition, not a physical one.
What about Jaqueline Woodson's Feathers?
I haven't read this book but I enjoyed some of the author's other books.
Here's some other suggestions:
https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/...
(half the book suggestions feature mental health issues, though, not physical impairments)
My book (Betel Nut Mystery) is the sequel to The Frangipani Tree Mystery <-- Does your libaby have this book?)

Thanks Oshizu.

Like Lorraine, I'm uncertain what else to read beyond
*Kamusari Tales Told at Night - less than 1k ratings
*The Betel Nut Tree Mystery - physical impairment (MC has a post-polio limp), orange cover, strong morals
We were running out of columns on our Completed tab, so I added 20+ more columns.
Let me know if you're having a problem with any part of the spreadsheet.
