oshizu | 5762 comments How to: Completed tab

When you complete a book in the Planning tab, you can easily copy the entire column of your finished book to the Completed tab by placing your cursor on the very top row (with an alphabet letter) then right-clicking to select "Copy."
On the Completed tab, place your cursor on the top row (again, alphabet letter) of the first empty column, then right-click to select Paste. This will copy all the info over, including any cells that Ushashi has coded light blue to indicate an assigned prompt.

If you find this too time-consuming (e.g., you're accessing the spreadsheet from your phone), simply set your book status to "Completed" on the Planning tab and someone will come along to move your book entry. :D

oshizu | 5762 comments Ushashi,
On our Planning tab, I've added a Completed column between the Prompts and Possible Fits column.

I thought this would help distinguish between "committed" prompts (books assigned but not read) and "completed" prompts (books assigned and done reading).
If you think an additional column feels like busy work, let me know and I can delete it. :D

Lorraine | 2396 comments Hello team! Hope everyone is well.
Just entered L'attrape-coeurs ( The catcher in the rye). So happy to have read this book. I will probably read it again but in English. Very sad but very powerful book.
Hope to add 2 other books today.

Ushashi (ushashib) | 428 comments We have finished so many books already!!

I am listening to The Book of Cold Cases and started Tamas in physical copy. Tomorrow is a free Sunday for me. So hopefully I will make some good progress with both.

oshizu | 5762 comments Hope everyone's having a great weekend of reading!

I've cleaned up our Planning tab. Any Completed books have been moved to the Completed tab. On the Planning tab, I've moved some of your book entries around so your books will appear closer together. If you see a blank column with just your name, it's only for you to add your next book.
Lorraine, you read quickly so I hope it's okay that I've moved your entries farther to the right, like mine.

Also, I notice that I'm the only one who'll be reading "a book set in summer." I'll keep an eye on everyone's Possible Fits, because I only added Under Her Care for the summer prompt and would rather read something else for this readathon.

If it looks like we won't finish the summer prompt by Day 5, I'll replace it with another book for a different multi-book prompt that's already been started or could be easily finished.

Oshizu. L’étrange été de Tom Harvey is set in summer. That is why I selected it. But if it is needed for another category, I can try to fit another book set in summer.

But on both the Tracking and Completed tabs, I see your book has been used for the "hidden identity" prompt.
On, the one hand, I think the single-book prompts are easier to fill than multi-books since they require no teamwork.
On the other hand, I don't want to read a book I'm that excited about "just for the readathon." Happy to work on a different multi-book prompt with you, though, Lorraine.

Off-topic:
Did you enjoy Anti Tuomainen's Little Siberia? A book connoisseur friend of mine remarked that it's not his best book.
So I bought The Man Who Died by the same author. Would you want to Buddy Read this book in August or later?

Lorraine | 2396 comments Ok. Let me see what I can do for that third prompt. I think I will finish another book today or if not early tomorrow and should be able to add another book to my planning.

Don't worry about the summer prompt yet. Yes someone else is read a summer book, but that book might fit better elsewhere.
Let's just wait and see for now. :D

oshizu | 5762 comments Personally, I don't think we need to rush to fill the easy single-prompt books right now. We're only Day 2 and some of our team members will still be adding books to the Planning tab.

Since the summer prompt seems up in the air, I've removed my summer book for now. That still leaves me 7 TBRs for this readathon. :D

Edited: Ushashi, I'll replace my summer book with Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants (Native American) which, combined with my planned Buffy Sainte-Marie: The Authorized Biography, will finish the 2-book "aboriginal, native American, indigenous" prompt.
I am working on completing the "3 different sexualities" prompt with bisexual, transgender, and nonbinary.

You are right. We still have time to fill out prompts. The book I am reading now was for the museum prompt but would also fill out the epistolary style for the single prompt which, in my opinion, is not easy to fill. I will look into finding another book for the museum. And will wait a few days for the summer one. Thank you for spending time giving us suggestion/recommandation. This is helpful !

Emily (egm926) | 739 comments I'm trying to plan my next read because I'm hoping to finish Here and Gone either today or tomorrow and am wondering if Monster would work for a book written in an epistolary style? It's told through journal entries and screenplays written by the protagonist. I noticed that's pretty much the only task we don't have any possible fits for, so if you guys think Monster would work for that one I'll definitely read it next. If not, no worries, I'll find another task to work on!

Thank you so much Emily but I am at 50% if my book and I think it would fit perfectly for the epistolary style. Do you have a book that would work for the museum prompt? Or the summer one? If not don’t worry.

Oshizu: no, you won’t have to read The Gurney Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society ahahah even tough this is a funny title and the book seems to be well liked.

small summary of where I am at. I hope to finish Voyage au bout de la nuit (French author) and Il n'est jamais trop tard (epistolary style) tomorrow. If I have time I will read Good girl, Bad girl.
I also added 2 books to the planning. One for museum that I am ok to read if no one has a replacement and one for summer, that honestly I would prefer not to read as this is a love story and not my kind of book :-). I will also continue to look for book for that prompt.
Looking for books is quite funny!

Lorraine
Other team spreadsheets can be accessed from other spreadsheet.
Do you see the words "TEAM CHUPACAPRA" at the top left corner of any tab of our own team spreadsheet?
To the left of that, you'll see a green icon which displays "Team Home" if you hover your cursor over it. Click that icon to access a folder with all the team spreadsheets.

oshizu | 5762 comments I'm done reading for today (but maybe later tonight).
Books I finished:
*Tomboyland: Essays by a bisexual author (different sexualities)
*The Dangers of Smoking in Bed: Stories - set in Argentina (Team Mission)

My plan for tomorrow is to read two short-ish books to finish our 3-book different sexualities prompt.

When I look at the spreadsheet, it shows your epistolary book as being assigned to the museum task, should that be switched? I'm fine with reading Monster for epistolary if you want to keep your book where it is now but if you're going to switch it and use something else for the museum task that totally works for me too! Just let me know either way. I have The Cousins which I can read next for a book that takes place during summer so I can start that once I finish Here and Gone.

Yeah, I've switched it now. I didn't get much time on the spreadsheet yesterday. It will be great if you read The cousins. We are short on the summer prompt.

message 125: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2396 comments Good morning Team!
I have entered -Meet me at the museum- on the third tab of the spreadsheet and put it in the prompt for epistolary style. I will continue my reading with- Good Girl Bad Girl- for the antonyms prompts. If I have time I will start reading -The museum of mysteries- so the museum prompt will be completed.
I wish you all a wonderful Sunday and to have fun!

Emily (egm926) | 739 comments I have a question that I'm hoping someone knows the answer to. Since we get points for the pages that we read, does it have to be a book that would also fulfill a task for us to get those points? I know we have to read at least the last 100 pages during the readathon and complete the book for the pages to count, but the rules don't seem to specify whether the book also needs to count for a mission for us to get points for the pages read. For example, I pledged to read 3-4 books and now it's looking like I'll have time to read more than that, but the difficulty will be finding something that fits a mission we haven't completed yet. I want to be able to continue to contribute to the team though, so it would be cool if I could read something that may or may not fit any missions and know that I will still be able to earn points for the team through the number of pages I read during the readathon.

oshizu | 5762 comments Emily,
I can't answer your question about whether books need to count for a prompt to earn points. That's a question Ushashi could post it in Readathon Central. :D

oshizu | 5762 comments Emily & everyone

RE: Unfinished prompts
I just counted and we have a total of 73 prompts, counting the double and triples separately and including two Team Books and two Team Missions.
Samantha has yet to show up, leaving our team with 7 active members. I seriously doubt that we're in the position now to complete all 73 prompts early. Just because "Possible Fits" appears to show a prompt is filled, a box might be checked for a book that is used elsewhere. If you're interested in a prompt, you can skim across that row to see if any books have Ushashi's blue code.

For what it's worth, here's what I believe are the prompts that could use some love, focusing on multi-book prompts because they're harder but excluding any blue-coded committed books: (Parentheses indicated current state of completion)
Doubles:
*Read 2 books: 1 with a morally gray main character and 1 with a main character with strong morals (0/2)
*Read 2 books about an ancient civilization (1/2) [Leslie/Chariot of the Gods]
*Read 2 books featuring aboriginal, native, or indigenous peoples (0/2) <--but my next 2 books will cover this prompt
*Read 2 books: 1 set in a large city, 1 in a rural environment (0/2) <-- though it looks like Ushashi has the city side covered, not sure
*Read 2 books that have a map featured in the front or back (0/2, with 1 committed book)
*Read 2 books: 1 set on or beside the sea, 1 set in on or beside freshwater (creek, river, lake) (0/2) <-- all 4 Possible Fits are committed to other prompts

Triples
*Read 3 books that have been translated from any language other than English (0/3) no committed books
*Read 3 books that have less than 1,000 ratings on Goodreads (0/3) no committed books though I have a book translated from Japanese that fits this prompt
*Read 3 books featuring a character who has a physical disability or impairment (0/3) I have one book that fits this prompt
*Read 3 books set in different climates (desert, tundra, rainforest, etc.) (0/3)
*Read 3 books with 3 different colors on the cover or in the title. (0/3) an easy prompt that Ushashi is wisely leaving for later/last
*Read 3 books set in a historical time period you want to learn more about (0/3) needs 1 more committed book
*Read 3 books written by a French author and/or that was translated from French (0/3) I do have one book for this prompt
*Read 3 books you have added to your TBR within the last year (0/3) another easy prompt that Ushashi is leaving for later/last
*Read 3 books that take place in the summer (0/3) need 1 more committed book

Hope this helps. If you'd like me to run through the available prompts again occasionally, just say the word, team. <3

oshizu | 5762 comments I should finish my 3rd "different sexualities" book today then will start on two books by or about Native Americans tonight.
*Black Sun - Native American author
*Buffy Sainte-Marie: The Authorized Biography - bio about a Cree singer-songwriter, musician, composer, visual artist, pacifist, and social activist. Note: She does not slay vampires.

These are longer books and I don't expect to be done until Wednesday unless I can't sleep, haha.

Leslie,
I just read the Wikipedia entry on your book and I think it does fit the "ancient civilizations" prompt.
(Here's the Wikipedia link, if you're interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chariot...)

It also fits the "translated from another language besides English" prompt since it was originally written in German (sez Wikipedia).

How awesome if you could read that book to finish off that prompt!

message 131: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2396 comments Good girl, bad girl is also taking more time than expected. But now that I have finish Voyage au bout de la nuit (that is incredibly hard to read and takes lots of time) I can concentrate on doing more.

Like I said, I will read another book for the museum prompts. For summer I will replace the book I put on the spreadsheet with another one that is more interesting for me.

After that I suggest that I either take care of these 3 as reading in French is easy for me...
*Read 3 books written by a French author and/or that was translated from French (0/3) I do have one book for this prompt

or I look into 3 other books that fill out other prompts...

Oshizu,Ushabi, tell me what you think is best for the team.
Have a great evening everyone.

message 132: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2396 comments I have added the 3 books in French I could read. And remove the summer one to replaced it by Zec la croche, that also fits for the summer prompts.

So that is 5.5 books (adding the museum one and half of Good girl, bad girl I have left) for 7 days left. I'll keep you all posted. Being retired, I never know how much I can read in one day...:-)

message 133: by Lorraine (new)

Could you re-read the steps on copying your book column from the Planning tab to the Completed tab?
Especially be sure to copy over the blue-coded X that indicates what prompt your book filled.
I'm trying to show on the Completed tab which prompts are filled so it would be helpful if you could copy/paste that cell over. yourself. Thanks!

oshizu | 5762 comments Spreadsheet Stuff

In cases where one person is reading 2 or more books for the same multi-book prompt (e.g., the museum, indigenous, and sexualities prompts), I've added extra rows for typing in the book titles while doing a vertical merge on the prompt text.
Vertical merging has also been done for the corresponding Completed and Points columns for the prompt(s) concerned to ensure scoring accuracy.

If you see some Doubles or Triples prompts with extra rows, that is why. Please do not delete the extra rows. Thanks.
Such spreadsheet tomfoolery isn't required in cases where each book in a multi-book prompt is read by a different team members.

*Read a book with a love triangle 0/1

Leslie & Ushashi

I believe Usashi was suggesting what prompt you should target for your next book, not the best prompt for Chariot of the Gods.

I hope it's okay for both of you, but I added Chariot of the Gods for Leslie on the Planning tab and tagged it for "ancient civ" to finish off that prompt.
