Btw, I've added you to the list.
I'm excited to reread this! It's been more than 15yrs since I read the series. I ended with A Feast for Crows and waited forever for A Dance with Dragons, however along came the HBO series and George deciding to put the real writing aside. Haha lol, j/k j/k I plan on reading the whole series once I start, anyone else?

I've never read any of the books before but my fiancé made me watch the entire series so it's been on my TBR for a few years now! We are both hoping that the books will be better than the TV series... and that George will maybe at least have a publishing date for book 6 by the time we all finish buddy reading together next year. 🤞
And also I may have already starting reading this one via audiobook a week ago 😅
@bailey, I was also wondering if he had a date set for the release of the 6th book and he says November of next year. However he also said 2008 for DwD, so we'll see. *fingerscrossed*From what I recall, Seasons 1&2 closely followed the books and then George and HBO started to deviate from the storyline. I saw an interview with him talking about the collaboration and mentioning something along the lines of not wanting to spoil the rest of the book series and the constraints of working on the TV show (i.e. no amount of visual effects) put on the storyline.
Hi everyone - excited to get started on this one! But do have to admit I have a case of big book fear so won't commmit to the whole series just yet (I'll see how quickly I can get through this one). I've not watched the show or read the books other than starting this one and getting halfway though about 5 yrs ago.
I’m somewhat on the same track as bailey, I’ve already started on the audiobook (sorry, I can’t contain my excitement!). I love the 6 seasons of the HBO series and can’t wait to see the differences between the books and the show. Now our Watch begins!

After reading the first one 3 times, I thought that I should wait. I look forwards reading your comments. It will be my 3rd read for the other books too.
I watch the entire 7 seasons two times, to make sure I was ready for the finale. But you are right, the books are not there yet. Not sure if Georges will ever write them but the books he wrote were just great. So enjoy, comments and don’t forget that “Winter is coming”!
Since I'm participating in the ongoing readathon, I actually pushed through the end of the book last night... I can't believe how quickly I got through this behemoth! Excited to chat with you all as you work through it :D@Pooja, have you watched the series or read the books before? I'm super curious about where everyone is at with this story!
I hope everyone is enjoying the book so far! I've got to say that Eddard's chapters have been my favorite, with Tyrion in a close second.
I hope you don't mind, I am jumping in here to read this throughout June. I decided to choose a few long books per month and read 2 hours/150 pages a day on top of my other books, and figured I should come in and read along!

Ned's chapters are my least favorite because of the politics and *game of thrones* that he's required to play. I will admit that it's his chapters that progress the story but (view spoiler). However, I have also been loving Tyrion's chapters! He has such an honest take on everything that goes on and it's so refreshing compared to some of the other characters. Dany is my favorite character from the show so naturally that has transferred to the books as well! I LOVE her chapters and (view spoiler).

This thread is to discuss A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, the first book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series.
Pages: 835 pages
Length: 1 Month (June)
Participants: bailey, Jessica, Dominique, Alaina, Nate, Emma, Darlene, Pooja, Christene.
Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!
Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.
Happy Buddy Reading!
