C E | 11 comments I read a children's classic in my adult years. I think it dated to the 60's or 70's. A boy ventures into the woods, and stops at a cabin. From there, he continues his journey, meeting a wild and free girl. Eventually his journey is stopped by a chasm. I believe she is on the other side.

The copy I read was, I think, an Aladdin or Harper Trophy paperback, bright spring green. I do remember that it is a classic that I had meant to read for many years, but I obviously don't recall the title. Thank you.

Rainbowheart | 28700 comments Is the boy a teenager or a younger child?

Is there a romance or romantic interest in the girl?

message 3: by C E (new)

C E | 11 comments The boy is maybe about 10, the age the book is aimed for. Too young for a real romantic interest in the girl, but I think he is very drawn to her. Thanks for asking!

Charlotte Mccash | 90 comments Do you remember if the book won any awards that might help narrow it down?

Goodreads has a children’s classics list that might be helpful: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9...

C E | 11 comments Thsnk you, Charlotte. I don’t know what award it won… Thank you for the list. I checked it, but don’t see it. It amazes me, though, how I can forget so much about a book, and yet still feel the same emotion when I remember it, that it evoked long ago. Books truly are a unique kind of magic.

C E | 11 comments Thank you! That's a wonderful list! I don't see it, but I see many others I'd like to read!

Capn | 3506 comments Yeah, Listopia is dangerous that way! ;)

Do you remember where it was set? Which country, or even state?

message 9: by C E (new)

C E | 11 comments Not that realistic. Set in a fantasy world. I am giving up. I wish I remembered more about it; first the boy finds a cabin in a woods, then goes on a journey that reaches the chasm I mentioned. I have looked at lists of children's fantasies. I have to start keeping a journal of what I read. Thank you for trying!

Capn | 3506 comments No need to give up! :) You can leave this thread open indefinitely - someone who knows it might be able to give you the title straightaway! :)

C E | 11 comments Oh, ok, glad to know that, thank you! (I am brand new to Goodreads.)

Michele | 2488 comments Do you know how the girl got to the other side of the chasm?

message 14: by C E (new)

C E | 11 comments I don't recall that. I really only remember the bare bones of the plot, but recalling it does evoke the feeling of the book in me. And I admire that in a book, after so many years!

Michele | 2488 comments Not an exact match, but possibly Bridge_to_terabithia ?

message 16: by Michele (new)

Michele | 2488 comments sorry, on the app - this might be a better link 0940121-bridge-to-terabithia

Michele | 2488 comments ...or not... gah, I hate the GR app...

message 18: by C E (new)

C E | 11 comments No, I love that book to pieces, but no. Would never forget that one! Thank you, though! Good call, it has a bit in common with whatever I am searching for.... Thank you!

Rainbowheart | 28700 comments Total long shot, Shadow Castle?

message 20: by C E (new)

C E | 11 comments Thank you. I don't think so. Sounds like a good read, though!
