Brandon Paul | 2 comments NOTE: I'll be mentioning some spoilers that I'll tag accordingly, since I really want to give as much info as possible to find this book.
And a quick disclaimer: This book was in Spanish. I don't even know if it was originally in Spanish or if it was ever translated to English. I'll do my best to describe it in hopes that someone out there might know about it.

Back in 2011-2012, I was going through middle school when I found this book at the library.

It starts with a teenage boy moving into a huge house with his family. After settling in he starts exploring a part of the house and finds a trapdoor that leads him to a long dark corridor. He follows it and finds a crystal pyramid in the middle of a room holding a sleeping baby/fetus inside it (I think this set piece was illustrated on the cover, but I don't remember for sure). There's several more corridors identical to the one he came from and he follows one at random.
Eventually he reaches the end and sees a desolate desert. I don't recall what happens right after but he ends up going from place to place and finds out that he's actually in the future

After that he finds a girl living in some sort of orphanage, with a lot of kids just staring at Holograph in a room. He finds out that (view spoiler) and then he escapes with her. A lot of stuff happens after that, like him finding a futuristic utopia city and then running away when they find out he's not from this era. Near the end he encounters a group of people living underground, before (view spoiler)

At the very end, (view spoiler)

I've been going nuts trying to find it after a decade, I pray that someone here can help!

Fyi. Currently, the Spoiler tag doesn't work in the Goodreads Mobile App -- the spoiler text is always displayed; it's never hidden.

Capn | 3506 comments Brandon, do you remember what happens to / what the significance is of the baby in the crystal pyramid thing?

And, maybe this is an odd question, but do you know where the author was from? Spain or Mexico or elsewhere in Latin America?

Did you read this in hard copy (hardcover or paperback), or on an e-reader?

Is there much romance between the male MC and the rescued girl?

Can you remember, however vaguely, any names (places, characters?).

We'll do our best. :)

Brandon Paul | 2 comments Thank you!

The Pyramid Baby was a complete mystery through the entire story, it was never explored, explained or given any thought. It really was just a cool set piece. I'm not certain where the author was from, but from what little I recall of the language used it's very likely that it was Latin America. It was a paperback book. The relationship between the boy and the girl didn't really evolve during the story, they remained as friends through the whole thing. I remember one scene where they both go skinny dipping together to clean themselves, but nothing happens.

Despite my best efforts, I can't recall any names of any characters or places. Not of the girl, or the boy, or the huge futuristic city that he ends up having to escape from. I do remember there being a few illustrations appearing inside the book. The crystal pyramid, the tunnel, the boy running from the city, the soldiers at the end...

Many many thanks again for your time and attention!

Capn | 3506 comments I didn't see it on the Pyramid on the Cover list ( https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7... )

There wasn't a good list for crystalline structures or crystals on covers (just crystal balls and gemstones), so I started one ( https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1... )

And the "babies on cover" don't seem to cover sci-fi. ;)
