I wish I was. :-(

Papaphilly I ave just finished Ship of the Dead and have started book three Drifters. Fun post apocalyptic zombie. Better written than the average fare.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I can sure see how it wouldn't appeal to everyone.:) I think I look at it through the sometimes-filters of having watched/read lots of sub-title movies and a bit of graphic novel and he does mix it up. I really like his take on alien invasion, and the satirically practical Trisolarans, who are just being themselves so can't really be satirical.

Rob (robzak) | 876 comments I really liked Three Body. I just find Dark Forest boring. Waaay too much talking/explaining at times. Ah well. Glad at least someone is enjoying it.

You may also like Ten Billion Days and One Hundred Billion Nights. Very different from an English work. Excellent read.

Good to get the recommendation. I like translated works and trying new authors. Added to my to-reads!

message 658: by E.J. (new)

E.J. Heijnis (ejheijnis) | 13 comments I just finished She is the Darkness, which I loved. Glenn Cook's writing is the kind I'm able to just enjoy, without critiquing word or style choices. I found him through Steven Erikson, who mentions him as a source of inspiration.

message 659: by Julia (new)

Julia | 957 comments I just finished in order a self- published apocalyptic book with a lot of local (to me) history West Kill Creek. It's not exactly my cuppa, but I did finish it.
Then I read You're Never Weird on the Internet by Felicia Day, which is as delightful as she is.
Today I finished The Vampire Diary of Buster Keaton by Tracy S. Wolfe. If you like vampires and/ or Buster Keaton you may like it a lot, like I did.

Didn't realise it was out, I'll add it to my list.

I finished off The Dirty Streets of Heaven and am now almost finished Abomination.

I am currently read/ listening to Atlantia by Allie Condie. It's a girly dystopian fantasy book, definitely YA. The earth becomes so uninhabitable they build a city under water-Atlantia. The main character is a siren whose family is all dead, evil, or left her under mysterious circumstances. It is the audio book component of Book Riot's read harder challenge that I am also part of. I would probably like it better if I was younger, but it is a decent story line. Allie Condie is also the author of the Matches series, again YA dystopian. I liked Matched Better than this book so far, but I haven't finished it yet.

PS: I use my iPad to follow GoodReads. Can anyone tell me how to add the book and author links when posting comments. I can't seem to figure it out.

I don't think you can with the app. I just use chrome on my phone/tablet personally.

Melanie, if you are using your iPad, I would strongly suggest using the browser rather than the app for Goodreads. The app really limits functionality - you can't add links, you can't edit your comments, you can't see certain fonts etc. I use a combination of my phone, a laptop, and an iPad, and I only use the app when I'm using my phone because in my case my phone has a very tiny screen.

message 664: by Allison (new)

Allison I am about halfway through The Rook, which has been lots of fun.

message 665: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments Matched was such a fantastic series! I bought Atlantia but haven't gotten to it. I'm glad to hear it's entertaining.

I'm reading Bonfire of the Vanities, Written in Red, and The Shining, and listening to Seveneves.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Halfway through The Causal Angel. Struggling a wee bit.

message 667: by Maarit (new)

Maarit | 136 comments I started to read Hävitys (Annihilation) by Jeff VanderMeer. I think this is not quite my cup of tea, but I will still finish it.

message 668: by [deleted user] (new)

Just started Second Foundation by Isaac Asimov.

message 669: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 13 comments I just finished Sabriel, which was ok, but I thought could have used a little more backstory on the world it was set in (I have reserved the second book in the series from the library already), and am currently reading A Discovery of Witches, which is interesting so far, but I don't know where it's going yet.

Phrynne Julia wrote: "I am reading Sustenance by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro #27 or something in the Saint Germaine historical vampire series."

You have got me interested in yet another series!!!!! I really don't have the time for this:)
Have you read all the previous ones as well?

message 672: by Julia (new)

Julia | 957 comments Phrynne, Not all of them, no, but a lot of them. These aren't for everybody, they are heavy on the history of Charlemagne, a remote manor house in the Dark Ages, the court of Peter the Great. This one is about American academics after World War II, and during HUAC's ascension who have been chased to Paris by the brand new CIA.

It's not a great place to begin reading this series though, try instead Hôtel Transylvania or Blood Games.

Yes planning to start at the beginning. As soon as time allows:)

message 674: by Beachesnbooks (new)

Beachesnbooks I finished The Fifth Season, which I really loved--fantastic worldbuilding. Now I'm listening to the audiobook of Ready Player One and reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, which is my first time reading Murakami. Intrigued so far.

message 676: by Roberta (new)

Roberta (tawnyreader) | 89 comments I'm reading short stories now until I start another novel. I reread the story "Farewell to the Master" by Harry Bates, the story upon which was rewritten to become the screenplay for the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still". Wonderful story, but very few similarities to either the original or remade movie.

message 677: by Sumant (new)

Sumant Here is my review of crown of swords, book in WOT series.

message 678: by Monica (new)

Monica (monicae) | 512 comments Just finished Hyperion in Audible. This was my second time reading the book. Spectacular!! Definitely worth a reread every 10-15 years or so. I am currently reading The Water Knife by Paolo Bacigalupi in book form (Goodreads giveaway!!). Listening to The Poisonwood Bible on Audible and reading The Round House on my kindle. September is going to be a month for great books, if not a little depressing...

message 681: by Julia (new)

Julia | 957 comments I finished last night Sustenance by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro and liked it, without loving it. Liking is good.

This morning I started Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson.

Roberta (tawnyreader) | 89 comments Yesterday I read another story from "Adventures in Time and Space", Edited by Healy and McComas. "Forgetfulness", by Don A. Stuart, is a unique and startling, for the time, look at contact between humans and beings on a planet chosen to become colonized.

I'm just starting The Flicker Men:https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... by Ted Kosmatka

This series seems to get slightly worse with each subsequent book.

message 686: by Phrynne (new)

Phrynne I got through The Long Mars as well but must admit The Long Utopia is still sitting waiting.

message 687: by Artsolameelian (new)

Artsolameelian Slaughterhouse 5 and Freakonomics!

message 688: by David (new)

David | 10 comments Reading Fold by Peter Clines. I either love his books or hate them - 14 vs ex-heroes for example.

This one is pretty good so far!

message 689: by MadProfessah (new)

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 775 comments I devoured Aurora in just over 24 hours. I liked it quite a bit (4.5 stars). Right now I'm actually reading two books simultaneously (something I basically never do) Use of Weapons and Farthing. I really am reading the latter from the library but Use of Weapons and The Dark Forest are I n my kindle for when I travel to NYC this weekend to read on the plane!

message 690: by Maarit (last edited Sep 03, 2015 11:06AM) (new)

Maarit | 136 comments I started to read The Blade Itself. I've never read any Abercrombie before, so I'm interested to see if I like it or not. I also started Säätiö ja Imperiumi (Foundation and Empire), since I've read the first book ages ago and decided it's now finally time to finish the series (or atleast the three original books).

So did you like 14 or Ex Heroes

message 693: by Don (new)

Don Dunham Cline's 14 started out solid and then someone slipped him some acid... I didn't hate it

Sumant Here is my review of Hero of ages the final book in mistborn trilogy.

message 695: by Matt (new)

Matt | 10 comments Finished up The Carpet Makers which I picked up after seeing so many people comment about how much better it was than Lord of All Things which I liked. The Carpet Makers was hauntingly good. I actually still cant get it out of my head!

After putting it off for a while decided to start the WoT series The Eye of the World

Rob (robzak) | 876 comments My last two audio books just didn't work for me:

The Dark Forest (My Review)
A Canticle for Leibowitz (My Review)

But I really enjoyed the latest Abercrombie book: Half a War. Nice finish to the series (My Review).

message 698: by Gav451 (last edited Sep 09, 2015 11:41AM) (new)

Gav451 | 145 comments I just started Saint Odd by D Koontz. This series started great, dipped in the middle but its really on the up again now. When he is on form the author is amazing.

My fingers are crossed for no more magic ghost dogs however. Its a meme of his I am now tired of.

message 699: by Julia (new)

Julia | 957 comments I am reading Lagoon by Nnedi Okorafor and really liking it.

message 700: by Kate (new)

Kate | 55 comments I have been listening to Arctic Rising by Tobias Buckell and am really enjoying it. Climate change is integral to the story and I think I put off reading it because I find the topic so depresses. However, Buckell makes climate change really interesting.
