SOLVED. YA fiction. A boy sick with cancer gets body swapped with an alien, who is attempting to use the boy's body as a host for himself before the government gets involved.

This book is a teen novel, I read it about 4 years (2017-2017) ago but it was not a new book. I remember the cover being blue and purple, similar to a night sky. The story is about a terminally ill boy with cancer who has been brought home to die, he has a dog and a mom, and a dad. His girlfriend is over visiting when there is a noise in the yard. His dog comes into the house and an alien jumps into the boy's body. The alien is on the run, he eats waffles and steals a van with a lot of moonshine. Word gets out to the government of an alien's presence on Earth and they're trying to hunt him down. With the help of the boy's girlfriend, the alien exits the boy's body and returns to his ship and the boy is cured of cancer. The parents of the boy with cancer really didn't like his girlfriend. The characters are about 17 years old, the story takes place in the US. I read this book as a paperback which I had rented from my local library. The book was set in the present.
