My immediate family and I also completely avoided it until about a week before the challenge started. We're also all fully vaccinated with mild flu-like symptoms. Even though we're no longer symptomatic we are still testing positive on those at home kits. Hopefully it won't be for much longer as its keeping us frim seeing my grandparents in the memory care home.

Hoping your symptoms won't get much worse! Get plenty of rest :)

I hope it stays mild for you and that you have a speedy recovery!

All things maze can be found here

The maze can be viewed here: https://maze.meic.dev/maze/78/

And our first task is in the Chat and Planning Thread here

Reminder that any books for the maze can’t be started before June 1 😄

Book: عرائس الماريونيت
Author: إلهام مزيود
Pages: 101

And how does this time's mini challenge exactly? Do we just read books and see how they fit? Or pre plan them?

This next challenge is a maze and we’re working with two other teams as “Team Ageans”. The rules are here and my post above has a link to the Team Agean discussion for the maze. I’m sure Deanna will post more details too.

The maze starts June 1. To move forward in the maze one person needs to finish a book that meets the criteria for that move. The book has to be started after June 1 and finished after the clue is revealed. Anyone from our three teams can claim a task once it’s revealed in the Planning thread. But we will only know what the tasks are one at a time.

And if the maze is not your thing, just keep reading what you like for page points. Rumor is we’ll have a June Mini start June 15th that will be similar to what we did in May.

And if that doesn’t make sense… I blame the COVID and one of the other captains will explain it better 😄

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments All good, Karolyn.

I had a look for the first task but couldn't find one. But I'll keep checking back with each task. Just to clarify, once the mini challenge starts you can't use the same book for the Maze and the Mini?

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 816 comments Finished For The Time Being Collected Journalism by Dirk Bogarde

I really enjoyed this. Actor Dirk Bogarde was soooo handsome as a young man but aside from that he's also a really good writer. A selection of his articles and book reviews for a London newspaper feature here (1980s to 90's) and I now have a list of recommended books to track down.

Since we've finished all the mini tasks, there isn't a deadline for finishing books at the moment. Everything we're currently reading is for page points. Just keep in mind that any books for the maze must be started after 9pm UK 1 June - the timer countdown is here: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

Over halfway through He Who Fights with Monsters (He Who Fights with Monsters, #1) by Shirtaloon and will try to finish it up so I'm ready to start a new book when the maze starts tomorrow.

Nop, Karolyn that is a good explanation, and you are right, I don't think the maze is my thing, since my reading rate is up and down. sometimes I finish a long book in a day sometimes I finish a short one in a 3.
So I don't want to drag the rest of you with me, I'll sit this one out.

message 265: by Deedee (new)

Deedee | 626 comments I suspect I read too slowly to do the Maze. (I'm averaging 8 books a month.) The book I'm starting today, June 1, I'll probably finish on Saturday or Sunday (June 4 or June 5). So I'll post in this thread and let the moderators place the book where it is most beneficial for the group :)

The first 3 books are very different from the movies, a little dated with all the Vietnam War references, but with plenty of action. Once you hit book 4 with a new author, the transition to more modern references is rather abruptly done; however, they are more in line with the action of the Bourne movies. I love the Bourne character, even more so after the changes in book 4, and enjoy the fast-paced action that takes place.

-and are currently in 1st place overall!!!

We’re about 20 books behind where the math says we “should” be at this point… so read away.

Hope your injury is on the mend!

From what I can see the planning sheet hasn’t been updated for a few days so maybe we’re not so far behind… My current books are longer and slower so not helping a lot.

Buuuuuuut I got one through, it's just a 200 something page, nut its something
I'll post it and add it tomorrow to the spreadsheet because I'm on my phone, and I hate writing reviews with my phone

It’s winter here and so everyone is getting sick and getting each other sick, which I’ve become. Hopefully I’m not too sick that I can’t read

message 288: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments I’ve been spending time on the Maze thread this past week and not as much here. You all are doing amazing with the challenge! For the competitive amongst us we’ve been in 1st or 2nd most of the last few weeks. For the non-competitive… I hope your being motivated to read more or push through a slump. I’m adding to my TBR list and hope you are to!

There will be a new mini challenge in a week-ish… details to come. And the maze still has a way to go. Or just enjoy reading good books and logging them to help the team! We’re tracking well… have read 156 books so far as a team and the math says we should be at about 171.

Anyone find a new favorite during TT yet? Or something so bad you didn’t think you’d finish? I’m enjoying a re-read of Frankenstein: The 1818 Text and suprisingly really liked Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments Great going team.

I've found myself being sucked into the Maze as well. So I've read over my quota but it seems that's a good thing at the moment. Once the Mini starts I'll probably re-focus on that.

message 290: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 816 comments The Maze is a great spectator sport. I'm just reading my longer books and if one fits a move when I'm about to finish a book that's fine. I'll switch to shorter books probably for the Mini.

I love this description! with our Gods theme… it’s kind of like going to the Roman Colosseum, fun to watch but brutal.

message 294: by Sara (new)

Sara Hollingsworth | 134 comments @Sixty and @Elisabeth; Haha, right now I'm the same. I'm just on the board mostly hovering and watching. It's like watching a speed race. They're pinging around so fast, I can barely keep up. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed a task will come up that I can actually do.

message 295: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments My not so secret maze strategy is to finish all but a chapter (or 10 minutes) of a book and then cross my fingers it fits a maze task. As a usually monogamous reader… it’s testing some new muscles.

message 296: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 816 comments What will be a real bummer is if an obscure task comes up that my book fits but I'm on p102 of 600 Hahaha

Raine (raine_renner) | 304 comments I'm not even sure where the maze is. I was able to join the group, but I can't remember what message number it was posted. I assumed it was going to be on one of the earlier messages that the captains had reserved :-(

Right now I'm just reading for points. I thought I saw somewhere that there was going to be another June Mini Challenge?
