Review:

Romantic suspense isn't really my thing, but I think this wasn't too bad. Cora is a pilot in Alaska, and after being attacked by a Russian trafficker, she forces herself onto a special ops team that is searching for him so that she can get revenge. I liked that Cora was a tough character who could take care of herself, but it was a bit too ridiculous that she would leave her injured father after a plane crash in order to get vengeance on the bad guy. The ending goes a bit nutty too.

But besides the parts that I needed to suspend belief on, and a few continuity issues (like in the last chapter...20 weeks is not 2 months 🤪) I thought this was good enough for what it was.

I almost read that one too! I had it narrowed down to about three, but it was a bit too long for me to read for a challenge.

I hardly ever like college romances, but I loved this. Knox and Ellie are A+ fantastic. Adorably adorable. And I loved Ellie's super close relationship with her brother, Jack. The were so wonderful to each other. Everything about this story just makes me smile. It's well-written and so sweet. I've never read anything by the author before, and I'll definitely be reading more!

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments I'm away this weekend but will try and see if I can do the task, if a pass is possible would anyone be okay with that?

message 315: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments No worries! Whatever works for you. If there's not a pass, I'll probably be a bit slow this weekend too because I've got some work I need to get done.

MountainKat | 31777 comments Here is your next task!

Task 10 - 64. Read 6 books not set on a continent of a teammate. Space does not count - must be a real continent.

Determine the continents the members of your team lives on, using the 7 continent model. (You can look on wikipedia for a definition.) Select books that are not set on any continent of a teammate. This is not a team decision, you can use any continent on which a member of your team does not reside. Remember to let me know how you know your book qualifies, be it title, precis, book details, tags or lists. I need to know where to look to confirm your books.

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Ugh! The randomizer definitely doesn't like us this time. We're limited to South America, Africa or Australia...unless someone knows of any books set in Antarctica!

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Here's a starting point - a list with books set in Australia (not necessarily romance) and there are links to all the other continents there too. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

And after this comment, I actually found one on my wishlist set in Antarctica - go figure! I'm starting with Whiteout (Survival Instincts, #1) by Adriana Anders .

My plans for the weekend (such as they are) are very compatible with listening, so I can definitely get through 2 and most likely even 3 (since I can take some time to find some shorter books), so Tink, if you need to use the pass, go for it!

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments I'll be home tomorrow lunchtime (it's 19:54 now) and the is actually a book on the Africa list that I own do I'll try that if all the books haven't been read by then. Thanks Karen

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Yeah, this is a tough one. I guess it's just a good thing that neither Chan nor I live in Australia! 🤣🤣🤣

message 323: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (last edited Apr 30, 2022 04:28PM) (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments It actually worked out to not be too bad for me - the one I started with has been on my wishlist for a couple of years. I knew I had one set in Antarctica but couldn't remember the title or author, so thank goodness I found it on a list. Then I also found a couple set in Australia by N.R. Walker that I haven't read that are short and available from the library, so I'm good for 3 if needed. As I said earlier, I've got the time...the plan for this weekend is mostly housework and potting all the plants that are still sitting around my living room waiting for the weather to warm up! 😁

I've always thought that looked like so much fun, but never had the opportunity to try it. Being on the water in/on pretty much anything from a floatie to a ferry is my happy place, so I'm sure I would love it.

I finished my 2nd book last night and I'm well into a 3rd, so nobody else needs to worry about a 2nd book. It's great that the task where all of you have limited reading time is the one where I have nothing but! Hopefully our schedules will continue to sync like that! 😃

I'm just the opposite Tink - you couldn't pay me enough to jump out of a plane, and even just thinking about it freaks me out a bit. I grew up in and on the water though, so I'm totally comfortable there.

Your book sounds intriguing...I've added it to my wishlist.

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments It's the closest you could get to flying and real freedom, I think that's what appeals to me. Not knowing what could be in the water is what freaks me out.

That book isn't something I'd usually pick up but I loved the idea of it and I've literally sat all afternoon and read it in one. It was really compelling. The translation was a bit iffy it parts but not enough to put me off.

Quite frankly, I'm being generous with the two stars. If there is a single page in this book that doesn't mention the heroine's weight, either as her being ashamed of it or the hero fetishizing it, I couldn't find it. Bottom line, hero is a douchebag and I can't believe they ended up a couple. And the stupid cheesy auction at the end 🙄. Give me a break.

Karen, if you like water, then you would really enjoy this. I was in Tennessee. the view was beautiful. there is a portion where it feels like you are lazing on a river. they allow you to jump in and swim or float along for about a half mile. i rafted lake ocoee. a portion of that was supposedly used for the olympics in 96 i think.

OMGosh jump out of a plane?! no thank you lol. bungee jumping and sky diving are two things i am not interested in.

If you don't enjoy water, then I would not suggest this at all. our boat didn't flip, but we were still drenched from head to toe. Like Karen, i grew up around water. i learned how to swim in my grandparents pool very early and many of our vacations were at the beach. Water is soothing to me.

I just read through the discussion and I think we decided on Naima Simone for this task. Not 100% sure, but there was nothing saying NOT her, so I'd say let's make that call and go with her.

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments Okay, we need around 375 pages each then

message 341: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Yep, I'm searching now, but will most likely read 2 so hopefully I'll give the rest of you a little leeway if your page counts are a bit below that.

message 343: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments I'm going to start with Scoring the Player's Baby (WAGS #3) by Naima Simone . It's 219 pages. Then probably Broody Brit by Naima Simone , which is 160 pages.

Sorry, probably would have been easier to have an author with higher page counts for this one.

message 344: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments No problem Courtney! I checked several of her books out from the library (in audio) and I've already finished Beauty and the Bachelor (Bachelor Auction, #1) by Naima Simone (236 pages). I'm going to just plow through as many as I can to build the page count. With a little luck (and fewer interruptions than I had today) I may be able to get up to around 800 pages, but no promises...yet!

message 348: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (last edited May 03, 2022 10:28AM) (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments I've finished my 2nd book and started the 3rd, which I should be able to finish late this afternoon/early evening. THANK GOODNESS the narrator for the Rose Bend series is one I've been able to speed up way beyond my normal listening speed. Those books (my 2nd and 3rd) are almost 800 pages between them but I'm getting through each of them almost as fast as I did the first, shorter one.

I've got 977 pages (if my math brain hasn't deserted me again like it did for a while last night), so with Courtney's book Scoring the Player's Baby (WAGS #3) by Naima Simone (219 pages) and Chan's Ruthless Pride (Dynasties Seven Sins #1) by Naima Simone (160 pages), we're up to 1356 total, so as long as you reach the 150 page minimum Tink, we're good!

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments Good going! I'm nearly done and will reach the minimum

message 350: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments I really lucked out...this narrator (Mari) is one that I've never heard of before, but her style is such that I can speed her way up and still understand and enjoy her narration. Lots of narrators I wouldn't have been able to come anywhere near this many pages in this length of time!
