Chan | 5095 comments i went for a walk today. the path that i like is under construction, so i tried a new trail. it was really nice. I thought i was going to add it into my rotation. On the way back and about a quarter mile before I was finished, there was a large, stubborn deer blocking my way.

i made a lot of noise. Stomped my feet, growled, waived my arms, i looked like a crazy woman and the deer continued to eat and just stared at me. I also really had to pee.

I pulled up youtube and played something that was supposed to scare animals. the deer finally moved, but only a couple of feet off the path. I gave up and decided to sprint past him, praying it wouldn't chase me and kick me.

message 154: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments Oh my gosh, I had no idea deer might chase someone. I thought they always just ran away! Last time I saw a deer was at a petting zoo type place though. Those ones were definitely not scared of people. 😂

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments This was a funny conversation to wake up to lol

I don't think I would have stuck around if my other half had to give birth to our 2. He is a right wimp and I prefer just to get on with it without all the screaming. When I had my daughter some lady was screaming so loud it was crazy.

Chan, that was brave, I would have gone through a bush or something to avoid it!

Where are you from originally Courtney?

Courtney | 2934 comments I'm from Ohio but have been living in Taiwan for about 16 years now. I love it here, so have stuck it out long haul 🤣. It's just so convenient. I hate driving, and the public transportation here is amazing. I also hate snow, so I'm super happy to be somewhere warm. And it's so safe. I left my diaper bag at a restroom in a park before and came back the next day and it was still there, everything inside. It's amazing. I think it's a great place for raising kids. Even with all the unsolicited advice the grandmas give me 🤣. I'm always getting scolded for letting my kids stay in the sun too long.

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments That was a big move then. And an adjustment I bet. It does sound nice though. I'd like to move abroad but probably somewhere colder so I can put my coat on and not worry so much about what's underneath it :D

Where are you from Chan?

MountainKat | 31770 comments Here is your next task!

Task 3 - 12. Read a book recommended to you by a teammate - no pass for this task.

You can do the recommendations however you wish - to the group, to each individual, to the person below you on the list or ?? - it's up to you. If you want to provide a specific shelf to pick from, it needs to have a minimum of 10 books on it. Please include a link to the message with the recommendations in your completion posts.

To be fair, i was in its habitat, but it is a path that the state has made for people to use for hiking. It's heavily used, so i never thought I would encounter wildlife beyond squirrels and chipmunks.

That is hilarious Tink. I wonder if the woman who was screaming was unable to get the numbing medicine. Maybe she was feeling everything.

I live in GA. Our weather right now is up and down. Last week we were in the 40s, this week we are in the 70s, but I think the temp is going to drop again b/c it's storming.

Tink, you'll find with this group that happens often! I was actually able to follow it last night, but couldn't easily reply...definitely entertaining, though!

I've heard people say for as long as I can remember (at least partially joking, but not completely) that if the men gave birth the population would eventually die out because every child would be an only child! 😂 I did read not too long ago though, that they actually have scientific studies now showing that women have a higher pain tolerance than men...and having dealt with family members suffering from a "man cold", I believe it!

Congrats, Courtney! I don't think I said that in my PMs to you, but I was thinking it! I'm glad everything went well, and that you were able to just roll with the minor issues. 😃

Chan, I'm guessing that the reason the deer wasn't bothered by you was because it was in a protected area and they've had human contact and never been threatened...much like Courtney mentioned about the zoo. The deer was probably looking at you and wondering "what's wrong with this crazy human???"

~KarenH~ | 11371 comments Chan wrote: "For this task can we use the rec list we made and pick a book from that?"

Yes, I think this is the task (or one of them) that we made those lists for.

I'm going with Tempt the Boss (Tempt, #1) by Natasha Madison from Chan's list. It's a reread and from only about a year ago, but I really wanted something that will work with the current PtP theme, and there were only 2 covers will well dressed people on them that I could choose from, and both are rereads. This one's shorter, so it wins!

message 165: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments What are you talking about, Karen
Our conversations are informative and riveting 🤣🤣

I believe it about the pain tolerance though. I have seen firsthand how males become whimpering babies with a sniffle or splinter.

message 166: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments I'm picking The Bride from Tink's shelf. This is a reread too, but it's been about 3 years, so it will feel new.

Being entertaining does not preclude being either informative or riveting! 🤣🤣🤣

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments I literally want to leave the house when my other half has a cold, I have no sympathy for the big baby.

I hope you guys don't mind me asking personal questions and I didn't ask you Karen because I remember from previous groups.

I don't mind picking off someone's shelf if they aren't in the mood for the recommendations there.

That was my other option, and it's been almost 9 years since I read it, but I'm not sure how much listening time I'll have over the next couple of days, so length means more than usual for me for this task.

There are good things and bad things about the move. I'm getting to a point where dealing with winter issues (hauling firewood, extended power outages, shoveling snow, etc.) was getting harder and harder, so I definitely don't miss that. Having great neighbors that I've known most of my life, and the quiet and privacy, not to mention the views - those I miss. At least my dog has adapted well...she was used to being able to be outside whenever she wanted so I was a little concerned about that, but she just dealt with it.

See...exactly!

I was really enticed by two on your list - Smutty stripper contemporary and Space Alien Mafia. I thought i settled on space alien mafia, but decided to take a peek at what Karen and Tink listed and was lured by The Bride. I tried to fight it, but i gave in.

When I saw it pop up I thought it was some weird lactating male milking story but I ended up really enjoying it. The farm itself and the town was really interesting and I liked the characters as well. I hope she writes more based there.

Review:

I'm not exactly sure what it says about me that I liked this so much.

description

Violet is a recent graduate who hasn't had much luck finding a job that will help her tackle her student loans until one day she sees an ad to work as a milker. She applies and attends an orientation, where she discovers that what she'll be "milking" are minotaurs.

description

Yes, this book is totally over-the-top smut, but it's fun. The world building it really top-notch. The story takes place in an alternate reality/timeline, so it's "now", but a now filled with elves and vampires and mothmen and minotaurs that all live alongside humans. The farm where Violet works is in a suburb called Cambric Creek that is populated by all these other beings, and the author does a great job making it come alive.

I really liked Violet and Rourke and their budding relationship. To be fair, I can't visualize, so the fact that he might look like a minotaur never factored into this for me. Not sure if it would be weirder if you were actually imagining him as having a bull face....which is probably one of the weirdest sentences I've ever written. In any case, I thought they were a great couple, and I enjoyed the story a lot. So much that I sped through it in a day.

I think the writing was just spot on. So many funny bits. Totally sucked me in. I just checked to see if the author had anything else, and it looks like they're quite new. Only from 2021. Another in this series is due out this year, but I looked through her other stuff, and Girls Weekend looks like it tells the story of how Lurielle met her orc. So I'll probably try that since it's set in the same world.
