~KarenH~ | 11403 comments Hey everyone! Kat just posted this in the Q&A thread, about the end of the challenge:

‼️ PLEASE TAKE NOTE! ‼️

With the challenge ending on Wednesday, June 8th, there will a minor change to the last task. Beginning on Monday, June 6th, when teams post their completions and get a new task, they will all get the same task. For this task, instead of just completing it, you will continue reading to add to the total number of books read for your team. There will be no passes for the last task and to complete it, every team member must complete a book for the task and contribute to the overall book count. So, the task is considered ‘completed’ when every team member has read one book for the task, but you can continue reading in order to increase your overall book count for the task in case that is needed for a tie breaker. In the event that two or more teams are tied based on the number of tasks completed, the team with the highest book count will win The Amazing Race Team Challenge!

**Remember if your completion posts are incomplete or have the wrong page count, your books will not count. So help each other out by checking the posts!**

‼️ If your page count comes from a Kindle edition published on the initial publication date on the editions page, it will count. If your page count comes from a Kindle edition labeled '1st edition', it will count. If your page count comes from the earliest dated English language Kindle edition, it will count. I am looking for one of those three things when confirming your books! As long the page count you list is correct, I will accept any link to the book. ‼️

~KarenH~ | 11403 comments Ok, I just snooped through the other threads to verify...there are 4 teams (including us) that have received every new task at the earliest time it's been available, so assuming we all do the same for the current and next task, we will be tied going into the final task, which we will get on Tuesday. We'll have until Midnight EDT Wednesday (end of Wednesday, not beginning) to finish, and potentially read any extra books we might fit in. I'm totally shocked that we've made it to this point in the lead...not bad for a no pressure/just do what you can kind of team! 😃

Hey Kat. that's the book that's there...I think. Although the last couple of days, i've been having issues. GR is trying to force me to use the new beta page and it's causing some glitches.

Karen, Tink or Courtney, can you click on the link and let me know what page count you see please.

~KarenH~ | 11403 comments Chan, the page count I'm seeing on the version from your link is 285.

Courtney | 2960 comments Completion Post - Task #27

83. Read 8 books with a white flower/s on the cover.

Forever a Bridesmaid (Always a Bridesmaid #1) by Courtney Hunt
Forever a Bridesmaid

Pages: 217
Completed: 6/5
How it Qualifies: White flowers in the bouquet

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Review:

This was a cute, little read. Some other reviews said it was like a Hallmark movie with sex, and I think that is a pretty accurate description. I liked the story, even though it does get a bit cheesy. There's nothing too memorable about it, though. Just a light, uncomplicated love story. Good if you need something quick and easy to pass the time.

I can't believe we've been so quick this time! Thanks everyone for picking up extra books when I've only been able to do one!

The time changes kinda mess with me, so does this mean we'll have one more regular task today, and then the one after that will be the final task for Monday? It's Sunday afternoon here, so I think it's Saturday night over there.

message 761: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11403 comments I think the time difference messes with most people!

Just so we all have the timing clear...we will receive our next task 12(ish) hours from now, depending on Kat's schedule of course, but around then. Assuming we finish on time like we have been all along, we will get our final task approximately 48 hours later...same time of day, 2 days later. We will then have until Midnight Wednesday EDT to finish (something like 36-40 hours later, depending on exact timing)...and if I used the time zone converter correctly, that will be Noon on Thursday for Courtney and 5 AM Thursday for Tink.

It was driving me crazy trying to figure it all out, so once I had it completely clear in my mind (at least I hope it is), I figured I'd make life easier and share! 😁

MountainKat | 32057 comments Here is your next task!

Task 28 - 81. Read a minimum of 1500 pages in books with a dog/dogs on the cover.

Books selected for this task need to have a dog or dogs on the cover. Other canines such as wolves or coyotes will not work for this task. You can use any edition’s cover to qualify for this task. Please include the qualifying cover in your completion posts.

~KarenH~ | 11403 comments I'm going to be reading Survive the Night (Rocky Mountain K9 Unit, #3) by Katie Ruggle . I'm going to go ahead and read the last book in the series Through the Fire (Rocky Mountain K9 Unit, #4) by Katie Ruggle right after, just to finish off the series. If we need it for the page count, I'll include it...if not, I won't, but it will give all of you some leeway if you want to read a shorter book. First books is 416 pages and second is 399, so 815 for the two combined.

message 765: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5138 comments Thanks for reading extra pages, Karen.

I've been listening to How to Howl at the Moon. We're driving back from TN today...well I'm driving, so i can't look at page count, but wanted to let you know what I'm listening to while we are taking a potty and gas fill up break. It's about 6 hours listening time.

I'll check in again when I'm home.

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1392 comments That's 323 pages CHan.

I've started Her Naughty Dog by Katana Collins which is only 165 but will try and read another one. Things are a bit mad here and it couldn't be a worse time for the end of the challenge 😞

Don't worry about reading a second book, Tink. I'm reading my second one regardless of whether it's needed or not, just to finish off the series. No sense in you struggling to get a second book in when RL isn't cooperating! And that would leave Courtney only needing 200 pages (or just shy of that), which shouldn't be too hard.

You need to find the one from last round that you thought had white flowers on it, but it turned out to be a dog! 🤣🤣🤣

Courtney | 2960 comments I know! I can't remember what the name of it was. 🤣
Something with "Duke", which does not narrow it down!

But I just found a series, and every single cover has a dog. woot woot!

I'm going to do Toying (Unleashed Romance, Book 4) by Kylie Gilmore . The only page number listed is for the paperback (300), but on Amazon it has 200. Either should be fine, right?

815+323+165+200=1503

Thanks for checking, Tink. I thought with it being under 6 hours of listening time that it would be around 200 pages or so. I was going to look for a 2nd book, but it seems we are all squared away.

Chan | 5138 comments We rented a cabin in TN on the river for a week. the river was so close...more than 5 steps from the deck and we would be in the water.

Underneath the deck, was a little slab of concrete with a swing chair, hammock, etc. I was down there swinging, enjoying the sound of the river and i see off in the distance two ducks flying. They were beautiful. Nice bright colors. They kept getting closer and closer. I was thinking, there's no way they are aiming for me. That's something you would read about in a book.

They were aimed right at me. I had to bob and weave. I needed some of Courtney's kindle lessons lol.

They landed not even a foot away from me and began waddling closer. I became that crazy lady, yelling and talking to the ducks. I didn't have food or even a drink. I have no idea what made them fly to me.

Chan | 5138 comments Is anybody else being forced to use the beta page?

I have a few glitches. The glitch that is aggravating me the most is the beta page isn't showing that I've read a book. It doesn't happen for every book, but I've caught a few. If I'm not on the exact book that I shelved as 'read', the beta page looks like it's a book i don't have shelved at all. I have to go to the exact edition and sometimes it will show as read and sometimes it won't. Being able to see my review is hit or miss too.

message 780: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11403 comments I haven't been forced into it yet, just have a banner across the top allowing me to try it. I've looked at it a time or two, but haven't spent much time there because I found it annoying.

I've had an issue with my bookshelves that may be related to what you're seeing. Not the same thing, but similar. A few times I've searched my shelves for a specific book, and it will come up saying I don't have the book on my shelves, then below when it gives you options that you might want to add, there's the book I was looking for, and marked as read (or whatever shelf it's on). GR's search has always been wonky.

message 781: by Chan (last edited Jun 05, 2022 08:44PM) (new)

Chan | 5138 comments that does sound similar, but for me, it only happens when I'm in the beta site.

Before I would have to click on Beta in order to see the new webpage, but now the beta page is my default. I have to click to get out of it and it doesn't always take me out right away. ugh frustrating.

message 782: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11403 comments Yeah, what I'm talking about happens when I'm looking at my shelves and searching a book there, so not sure how it could be related to the beta pages. Although, it seems to be a relatively new thing, I don't remember it happening before maybe a year ago, if that. Could be something internal that is connected to the changes, I guess.

🤣🤣

We have a similar problem with squirrels in the park by our house. For some reason, so many people feed them, so they come real close to everyone looking for food. One crawled up my baby's stroller the other day! Luckily, I was holding him at the time, so he wasn't in it, but it was freaking crazy!

Climbed up your baby stroller? yikes. Yeah. these animals are desensitized and it's our fault.

When I was in high school, you know...like 2 years ago lol....there was a girl leaning against this big tree in the courtyard taking a photo. A squirrel scurried up her body to climb the tree. I think she had one shallow scratch on her leg. the skin barely broken; no blood. But I steered clear of trees for a while after i saw that lol

Some of this I really liked...even though it was a little insta-lovey and pretty cheeseball...but some was just a bit too much. I thought Caleb was great, and Sloane was good except for her kind of overdone insecurities. Being afraid of being around photoshoot sets and other models because she used to be a child model and her career ended because ONE photographer said she wasn't cute anymore?

description

I didn't mind Caleb's thunderbolt love at first sight, but I wish there had been a bit more relationship building after it.

Really? They didn't force me when it first came out. They gave me the option with the banner that Karen referred to. I used it on and off and gave some feedback. They did figure out how to give us access to all of the tags. However, I think they have people who don't use GR creating it. Kat and Jane would have to rethink some challenge rules if we all had to use it.

Now, the Beta page is my default page. At the bottom right, the link is still there to leave the beta page, but it sometimes takes a couple of tries for it to work. I sometimes give up, not usually a problem, but it can be with challenges. Especially when you are looking for the first edition Kindle book. The link to all editions takes a few clicks to get to.

~KarenH~ | 11403 comments Ok, I've updated my post with my 2nd book and posted in the Q&A thread. Courtney, when you have a minute could you add my 2nd book page count (399) to your current task post so it actually shows that we read over 1500 pages? Not a big deal, Kat goes by our actual completion posts, it just looks incomplete the way it is. Thanks!

Yeah, I remember when that happened...you were so frustrated and I wanted to see it, but they wouldn't let any but the unlucky few see it at that time. I think by the time I was able to actually see it they'd changed some of the things that were bad about it, but certainly not all of them!

MountainKat | 32057 comments Here is your last task!

Last Task. Read books with a 5 in the first edition Kindle page count. No pass for this task.

Since this is Round 5 of The Amazing Race Team Challenge, books selected for this last task need to have a 5 in the first edition Kindle page count. Remember if there are multiple English language editions with the initial publication date or earliest Kindle publication date, you are free to use any of those edition’s page count.

Remember completion posts with errors or missing elements will not count towards your team total or the completion of this task. The task will be considered ‘completed’ when each team member has completed one book for this task, additional books will count towards a tie breaker if necessary. Help each other out by double checking posts are complete with the first edition Kindle page count!

There is no need to post a team completion in the Q&A thread, I will be checking all team threads at the conclusion of the challenge. 😊
