Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments I was thinking Summer just because it's that time of year here and there are a lot of new releases for that one. I should be able to find something for winter though

message 452: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments I was thinking winter just because there are always so many Christmas books 🤣. I can look for summer, though. Anything works for me.

message 453: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments I'm off to bed here, so whatever you guys decide is fine with me. I'll look for something as soon as I get up.

message 454: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments If a book mentions that it's during a hockey national championship, could I count that as spring?

message 455: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments I think Courtney is right...winter would probably be the easiest to identify, if only because of holiday stories. These tend to be short, so multiple books, but unless there are lists with books by seasons I can't think of a good way to qualify most books. I'm open to whatever the rest of you think though!

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments I'm not sure Chan, if it can't be confirmed in the title etc it might be best to ask just in case.

I'm not good at making decisions so I'm going to leave it to Chan and Karen 🤣

message 457: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments Okay. cool. let's go with winter. i have a christmas book on my MnG list.

message 458: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments actually, i've really been wanting to read Enemies of the State. Could i count this as winter? The precis states "Newly elected President Jack Spiers’s presidency is rocked from the very beginning.."

Presidents switch out in Winter - January.

do you think this would count?

Chan, I saw your question in the Q&A thread, and if I were you I'd expand your quote to what you have here. To me newly elected gives some leeway (could be a few months in and still count by some standards), but including the "from the very beginning" part narrows the time more. I still can't predict whether or not Kat will accept it, but hopefully she will...and if she does I might read it too!

message 460: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (last edited May 12, 2022 09:35AM) (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Kat has lists as a possible qualifier, so hopefully anything on this list will work without any additional qualifier: Wintertime Action and Romance https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Edit: I think I'm going to ask about this before using it as the only qualifier...

Thanks for the suggestion, karen. i expanded it. i hope it counts; it sounds really good and it has a high rating.

message 462: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments I'm reading Die For Me (Romantic Suspense, #7, Daniel Vartanian, #1) by Karen Rose . It's 585 pages, so some leeway for anyone who might have a book on the shorter side.

message 463: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments Wow! thank you Karen. That leaves the rest of us with 305 pages each.

If Kat approves my book, my contribution will be 324 pages.

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments I'm struggling to find anything I want to read but will try something. Being a mood reader is rubbish

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Tink Magoo is bad at reviews wrote: "I'm struggling, but will try and find something"

Hey Tink, sorry you're having trouble finding something. Since my first thought for winter books was Eli Easton's Christmas books, I took a peek at your shelves and you have Christmas Angel (The Christmas Angel, #1) by Eli Easton that just barely qualifies for page count, but it's an option if you really get stuck. If we end up with a page count shortage, I should easily finish my book by tomorrow morning, so will have plenty of time to add a second book to bump it up (I have a neverending supply of Christmas books I can reread).

It's hard finding books that specify a season, other than the holiday books!

message 466: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments My book was approved. YAY! So, Tink, i'm offering the same thing as Karen. After i finish my book, i can definitely read another to get to the required 1500 pages. pick whatever interests you, don't worry about page count (well, min of 150 of course). I can pick up the slack 😁

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments Thanks so much guys. I've started one and it's actually good so fingers crossed it stays that way and the page count is 297

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments That page count is annoying, the hardback I'm actually reading is 100 pages more

message 469: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Tink Magoo is bad at reviews wrote: "That page count is annoying, the hardback I'm actually reading is 100 pages more"

Yeah, that's frustrating when it works against you, but occasionally it goes the other way. Whiskey Beach has a first edition Kindle page count that is anywhere from 200-300 pages higher than just about all the other editions...very close to the large print page count. I know it's off, but it's the same page count that Amazon has and the edition the rules say to use, so I've used it more than once in a challenge where a high page count is beneficial!

message 470: by Chan (last edited May 12, 2022 02:33PM) (new)

Chan | 5095 comments That leaves us with needing 294 pages. I'll wait for Courtney's page count.
By the way, this book is soooo good so far.

message 471: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments Ok I've got Her Christmas Cowboy (The Wyoming Cowboy #5) by Jessica Clare and the Kindle page count is 315. So we should be good, right?

Review:

This had a very cute Hallmark movie kind of vibe. I was really digging it in the beginning. Loved how flustered Caleb got around Amy, and all his plans to woo her. But it ended up feeling just a tad overdone. His difficulty speaking to her was so exaggerated that it was hard to believe how quickly he switched to just speaking normally. I also got a bit annoyed with Amy. I get the whole controlling ex and now she wants to spread her wings thing, but she was a bit TSTL. She has no money, but she hired an accountant? She can't figure out how to shovel her driveway? Her rental is falling apart, but she still agrees to go on a date with her scummy landlord? Just too much. If the characters had been less over the top with their quirks, I think this would have worked a lot better.

MountainKat | 31777 comments Here is your next task!

Task 17 - 76. Read 6 books with a specific item on the cover, team selects item.

As a team, select a specific item and read 6 books with the selected item on the cover. Jewelry is not specific, but earrings are. Weapon is not specific, but gun is. (As examples.) You can use any edition's cover to qualify for this task. Please include the selected item and the qualifying cover in your completion posts.

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Ugh...how did we manage to miss planning for this one??? I even looked back through our threads for previous rounds and found nothing!

message 480: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments I just posted a question for Kat - can we use a specific human body part. If we can, that might make things easier...

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments If we can't would flower or shoe work?

message 482: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Either of those would be fine, but I think flower would probably be easier.

My thought on the body part was chin. Pretty much any cover with a face on it would work, and also all those nekkid man chest covers that cut off most of the head but do show the chin! 🤣🤣

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments That would be a good one

message 484: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Ok, Kat approved specific body parts, so should we go that direction and use chin, or try for flower (or something else)?

message 485: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments I'm okay with chin or flower. both of those seem the easiest

message 486: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments I just checked my MnG and i have a lot of chins. I do have flowers too, so either one would work.

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments I say chin then

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments Also, I'm away so won't start until I'm home tomorrow. Hope that's okay

No problem, Tink!

My first book is on the longer side but I still should easily be able to finish it today, then I'll have plenty of time for another (or even 2 if necessary) tonight/tomorrow. I can spend some time today locating some short books that work.

message 491: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5095 comments I can do 2 books

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1390 comments Thanks guys. I've been away every weekend the last 3 weeks so it's been a bit mad but hopefully I'll be able to do more after this one

Courtney | 2934 comments I swear when I have more options, nothing sounds good! 🤣

I really want to continue the Gridiron series, so I'm just going to go with Jockblocked (Gridiron, #2) by Jen Frederick . It's listed as over 400 pages on GR, so I though it might take too long, but my ereader says it's a little under 300 🤷🏼‍♀️. It's not a page number challenge, so I figure it doesn't really matter since it's definitely over the 150 anyway.

That's how it is sometimes. the more options you have, the difficult the decision.

Chan | 5095 comments I finished my first book and i didn't like it. I really want to give it 2 stars, but i feel awful rating anything below 3. I'll start book 2 tomorrow.

message 498: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11373 comments Chan wrote: "I finished my first book and i didn't like it. I really want to give it 2 stars, but i feel awful rating anything below 3. I'll start book 2 tomorrow."

For me it depends on the reason that I want to give it a low rating...whether it's objective or subjective. I'm not going to lower a rating nearly as much for a book that's a trope I don't enjoy, for example, as I would one that's poorly edited, researched, has continuity errors, etc.

message 499: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2934 comments Yeah, I'm the same. If something is well written, but I just didn't like it, the lowest I'll go is a 3. But if the writing is bad, there are lots of errors, it feels ripped off etc. then I think a 2 or 1 star is fair game. I've read a few books where I felt at the end like the author didn't even read the darn thing a final time before uploading it to Amazon because the mistakes were so obvious, so I don't feel bad about giving a low rating.
