You can use it for both - that's clever book choices.

Kristie | 3595 comments So, I started a crime/mystery/thriller maze as I'm almost done (hopefully, lol) with my original maze. I made my first oops! I need to go south, found a book with "alibi" in the text and was very excited that I was able to find the book, read it, and went to report it. This is when I realized it was a B title! 🤦🏼‍♀️ Have my next book lined up and confirmed pages, task, and title this time!

I have done that so many times! But luckily I noticed before hitting the button, lol.
Sometimes my brain balks at thinking about both the task and the direction 😆

I'm sorry, we don't keep a record of the passwords. If you forget your password you'll need to make a new account and a new maze. (One of the slight hiccups of this being not a professionally run website).

From the FAQ

I did my first task wrong.

No worries, just read a book that works for the task and the direction you want to go and carry on from there.

AKA read something that does work for the task, then move on. No need to delete anything.

Nope, it's on me, I didn't use one of my "normal" passwords and I didn't write it down. I actually saved the password on the browser, but Goodreads is currently not working well on Firefox. I'll just have to switch browsers to update this challenge...I wonder if I could create a new maze...heh, heh, I can!

Lyndi (mibookobsession) (mibookobsession) | 149 comments My Task: Read a book that is in the "1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die" Listopia List. I looked at the first 100 books on the list and I've read 68 of them. There are a few I still want to read... eventually. Just not now.

message 1420: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12864 comments Why don't I ever get that task?! I'm actively working my way through that list, lol.

Lyndi (mibookobsession) (mibookobsession) | 149 comments My next book I plan to read from the list is A Tale of Two Cities but 3rd shift life is draining me right now and I can't seem to concentrate on anything too serious. Obviously, the books on my skip list don't require much concentration lol!

message 1422: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12864 comments I guess A Tale of Two Cities is one of Dickens' few more serious books. Probably why it isn't my favourite, lol. Gimme David Copperfield any day 😁

Having said that, my current non-list book A Spot of Bother is supposedly easy to read and hilarious. I'm finding it tedious and not even remotely funny. I'm so glad I only paid 60p for it! 😆

message 1423: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Finally finished the last book for this skip...

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12864 comments My trick if it's a list on a topic I don't enjoy, is to look for the books that don't belong that inevitably make their way on there. There are quite a few on this list, including The Shining!

Hahaha yep I do that all the time! It does feel like it's against the spirit of the challenge AND I get mad at all the people voting for the wrong books.... but I'd much rather reread Sense and Sensibility than anything else on the chick lit list 🙃

Lyndi (mibookobsession) (mibookobsession) | 149 comments I thought my next task would be easy (Task: Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as overdrive) but most of the books are popular and even the first book in the list All the Light We Cannot See was only shelved overdrive 90 times, nowhere near the first page of genres. After skimming through 16 pages of list options and down to 20 shelved I'm skipping again

H Heart of a Monster Shain Rose 316p 4/12

E The Ever Queen L.J. Andrews 452p 4/11

I see there are new choices for new mazes. Is there a spot where the themes to choose from are listed?

message 1432: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
Thanks for pointing out that I haven't added that here anywhere!

If you press on the create a maze button, the drop down under category has them all.

They are:
General - all the tasks used so far
Fantasy
Sci-Fi
Romance
Horror
Historical
Mystery/Thriller/Crime

message 1433: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12864 comments As an aside, as I am aware that romance readers usually tend to read exclusively either MF or LGBT+, I kept the tasks gender neutral throughout, except for I think maybe one or two in the whole set, so they should be suitable regardless of what preferences romance readers have 😊

E- Murder is a Piece of Cake by Elaine Viets 10/4 3★
L- August Falling by Les Zig 16/4 3.5★

I - Immortality
P - Persuasion

I'd be surprised if death isn't a word in one of those books. It doesn't need to refer to the tarot card, just the word.

HALT:
H: Hijinks with a Hellhound by Louisa Masters - 251 pages
A: After the Quake by Haruki Murakami - 147 pages
L: Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood - 389 pages

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Skipping
Task: Read a book whose author died this year
Direction: South

P : Peripeteia
A : The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken
S : Smoke & Summons
S : The Scourge of Muirwood

When I got this task a few weeks ago, I tried to find something that fit but there were no books that appealed to me.
Only just past 3 months into the year, simply skipping the task was... let's just say... a lot more palatable... than the idea of waiting to see if an author with an appealing book would DIE soon... AMIRITE?!?!

Not since I was a kid! I absolutely adored them as a little 'un, but I've been kind of afraid to re-read Narnia, as I've been worried it might spoil the fond memories I have of them. These days I struggle a lot more with the patronising tone most kids books have.

Have you read the Wayward Children series yet? #1 starts with E but #2 starts with T and I wouldn't say you have to read the first one first. They're only going through a portal once or twice though, if I remember correctly.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12864 comments Thanks guys, I'll have a look into those. If all else fails, I can re-read The Reluctant Swordsman, which was the book that started my love for both portal fantasy and the author Dave Duncan when I fished it out of the 20p bargain bin in a second hand book shop almost 25 years ago!

But while that would help me complete the task, it wouldn't help me find new awesome stories to read 😁
