the book was fine, but I hate when authors make smart characters ignore the obvious as an easy way to move along the plot.

Just finished it. I don't usually read sci-fi, but this was well worth the journey to and from the Aurora.
I finally got to start it on a plane ride yesterday and got through 14%. I'm tentatively enjoying it. I'm also not a sci-fi person, but I'm finding it easy to focus on the overall story instead of the "space stuff".

I love the difference perspectives everyone brings to these group reads. I enjoyed this one, myself. :)

Greetings, my friends! I'm about to start this tonight and can't wait to discuss it with you all. Hope you're having a wonderful Monday so far as to me, nothing beats late-night reading :-)

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this one, LTJ! I might not have picked it up if it wasn't for the group read, but so glad I did.

@Kimberly: Thanks, my friend! Oh yes, that's what I love about these group reads, I always find awesome new authors and books! So far, I'm really enjoying things as I'm about to hit 20%

They feel very stereotypical for me.

Yeah, I’m around 80%. Im glad I borrowed it from the library. The space setting didn’t bother me. Just the characters. I couldn’t get attached to them and didn’t care much what happened to them.

I just wish the characters weren't so one dimensional and what I'd get from a B Horror movie.

I went to the library today to pick up a book that had come in, and tonight I looked up my account and this book is FINALLY in transit. Had I only known I would have waited until tomorrow to hit the library. 😡
I’m quitting it, I had 30 minutes left but just could not stand hearing that woman talk any longer. In world of Warcraft, it’s called rage quit. That’s why I don’t force myself to keep on reading or listening to a book I’m not enjoying. I should’ve stopped yesterday. I’m glad the majority of everyone liked this one. It just wasn’t for me.

I can just imagine how Kovalik might have sounded and cringe. She was annoying to read, always whining and insecure. I have no idea how someone like her was put in charge of any group or mission.

I'm about 60% done and am struggling to keep going. Like some others said, I just really don't care about the characters. The audiobook is rough, I really hate listening to this woman's voice. I wanted to love this, but so far am not. :(
I ended up just plowing through the rest of the book. I didn’t love it. I hate that. But I’m glad I read it along with you guys! I just never really felt connected to any character and didn’t really care what happened. Plus it didn’t feel creepy to me really. I expected more horror. 🤷🏼♀️
I just finished it. I liked it. After the disappointment of The Luminous Dead, I kept my expectations low with this one. I think that helped. I actually liked Claire and Kane. Sounds like I'm in the minority on that one XD
I thought it lost some steam in the second half, which was a bummer. Still some good tension, especially in the first half, and lots of surprises. I'm glad I read it :)
@Chandler: Nice and glad to hear you liked it/finished it! I'm about to hit 20% in this one and to battle my 1/5 of The Luminous Dead, I had to re-read Misery by Stephen King to cleanse myself. So far, I'm enjoying Dead Silence and am excited to see where this goes...

I'm about halfway through and actually like Claire and Kane, too. I kept wondering if I was alone lol!
I just finished this one, I flew through in 3 days. I really enjoyed it, especially after The Luminous Dead which I really didn't enjoy. To me it was a mix of Event Horizon and The Shining. The final act wasn't quite as strong as what came before it but there was enough sense of mystery and dread throughout to keep me hooked. One of the better group reads I've read so far
I'm about 50% through. I'm enjoying it so far. For fans of this genre make sure to watch Event Horizon and Sunshine both of which are excellent horror set on space ships.Last month's Luminous Dead was a little meh to me so I'm glad this is grabbing me a little more. More guts and grue which is what I'm after.
On the 10th Chapter. Really enjoying the book. Reminds me so far of Event Horizon and Dead Space which was a great game. Hope it holds up for the full read through.

I really enjoyed this. I agree that you could say that the characters are a bit cliched, but it didn't bother me, and having some very strong personalities helped set the scene on the ship. I also really enjoyed the way Claire's PTSD plays into the rising horror, and the confusion about what is going on. All in all I think I still preferred Lena Nguyen's We Have Always Been Here for my recent hallucinogenic space horror pick, but I enjoyed the heck out of this and found myself often surprised by the direction it took.
@Hayley I totally agree with you about the PTSD, that was the most interesting part of this bookto me - (view spoiler).I also liked Claire's flaws, I'm pretty insecure myself, so I like to see that people who aren't perfect can be main characters or heroes and take control of situations gone wrong.

@Jacqueline: Nice, enjoy! I'm almost at the 50% mark and it's not so bad, curious to see how it ends and what ultimately happens.
I was disappointed in this book. I love the concept, but the execution is lacking. It's almost like the author wanted to combine Alien and Aliens, and I don't think either half of the story was given enough development. It's a haunted house story in space that doesn't give the reader the time to sink into the creepiness. I also think it cheats when it comes to whether it's all real, supernatural, or just in Claire's head. There are times when she HAS to be psychic, but the implications of that are not consistently played out in the book.
UUUFFF after a good beggining it was a terrible ordeal to finish this book. I recall that only one or two book i left them unread because they were unbearable (one of them was Crespusculo, again, there the main character waa..no way i just could read all the indecisions). It almost happen with this. I really hate Korvalis, The "horror" it wasn´t horror, The plot was like a newcomer, the dialagos were to childish and obvious.
But as any book it was a bet, to my point of view I lost.
(I apologize for all the misspelling and if my english writing is not good enough)

As of last night I'm 70% into it, and it's fine. Just fine. Nothing more. I did like (view spoiler)
I like "impending doom" and "something is wrong but we don't know why" plots. I call it "generic" horror, but I enjoy it and I suppose it's why I like the genre as a whole.
But.... Claire. Oh my god. She is a wilted flower and listening to her be sad would also drive me insane.
I'm about to go back to reading, but I'm 11 chapters, about 109 pages in. It started off a bit disjointed, but once all the patchwork backstory got out of the way and the story started to pick up, oh boy! "Titanic meets The Shining"???? Heeellllll no. It's totally Ghost Ship meets Event Horizon. TO-TAL-LY. Exactly my kind of story!
