Welcome one and all to the Amazing Around the Year Around the World Baking Biking Race! I'm your host Betty Spaghetti and I'm so excited to join our contestants on a whirlwind week of baking on bicycles! The fun! The danger! The aromas! We are joining the crowd now at the starting line in San Francisco, world famous for its sourdough bread. Will the bakers RISE to the occasion or will the competition turn SOUR?

Post here with your pages read or minutes listened each day so we can see how far we travel. 1 page = 1 mile, 1 minute = 1 mile. Please make a new post each time rather than updating old ones so I don't miss anything!

Welcome back to the Amazing Around the Year Around the World Baking Biking Race! I'm your host Betty Spaghetti! The first leg of the race has gotten off to a delicious start. As you know, sourdough bread is a complex process of rising and resting the dough over several hours and under delicately controlled temperature and humidity, so naturally what could be more fun than doing it while bicycling thousands of miles in a single day? Please don't try this at home; these are fictional feats performed by professionals.

Starters at the starting line, the home bakers erm, I mean, definitely professionals, attempted to leave only loaves at the finish line. Before you could say, "Here I Crumb!" they were off. There being no designated route, contestants were left to fend for themselves err, for legal reasons, I mean to say, they were given the freedom to choose their own path. Most chosen the inland route for humidity reasons, but a few went down the coast. You could say they really went against the grain. *insert laughter*

At the first check point in Panama City, only those with well risen loaves ready for baking were allowed to cross the Panama Canal. For a few of our baker bikers, it was an unexpectedly early leavening from the race. For those able to continue, it was a mad dash (of salt) to the finish line in Trujillo! This week's Handshake of Hunger was awarded to Rachel from Albuquerque! She'll be sure to love the a-bun-dant applause back home!

Today's biker bakers travelled 6597 miles! I'm Betty Spaghetti and join us next time to see how the contestants are pita-ed against each other!

7446 miles covered today! I'm your host Betty Spaghetti and welcome back to Amazing Around the Year Around the World Baking Biking Race! Today the bakers will be biking their way to victory while making Peruvian Alfajores! These delicate pastry sandwiches are filled with sweet creamy manjar blanco, and the contestants will need to be filled with determination if they want to win!

On their way to Rio Grande, Argentina, the biking bakers will need to cycle their way to culinary perfection. Their powdered sugar should fall powerfully like the snow of the Andes. The pastry must rise like the mountains themselves. The filling must be as smooth as...you know what this analogy isn't panning out. Back to the race!

With a longer leg to make today, we lost a few stragglers along the way. Have no fear, the llama rescue team will collect them! With a truly creative spin on the cycled sweet, Joyce from Jacksonville's Jackfruit Alfajores took home the Handshake of Hunger!

Tune in next time for more biked bakes!
