Stav Davidson | 5 comments "I've been chasing sleep for hours and finally accept the fact i'm never going to catch it." This quote stood out to me just because I like how it is worded. (The Culling)

message 4: by Henry (new)

Henry Rouch | 9 comments Freedon Trials - Meredith Tate
"I have pain because I deserve it, ma'am"

This line stood out to me because it showed me that this prison is trying to convince the prisoners that they are so bad that they need to feel pain.

message 5: by Mary (new)

Mary Lister | 9 comments 1. The book I read today (since I didn't have my personal one), is the author talking about the backlash they faced from this book and how they didn't understand it since they weren't actively hurting anyone with the information.

message 6: by Colin (new)

Colin | 7 comments ¨Dictatorships may make life miserable, but you can never truly legislate joy or enforce its absence¨ I though this quote was a very interesting interpretation.

The Broken Kingdoms

One aspect of the section that I was reading from today that really stood out to me was the emotional connection that the main character has to their father who had passed away. We had not gotten much information about this specific aspect of the main character's past before this moment, and to see how she reacted and navigated this was really powerful in understanding how she has gotten to this point overall.

message 8: by Calvin (last edited Feb 10, 2022 07:54AM) (new)

Calvin Talmage | 11 comments Hear me lord of the silver bow you who stands guard over Chryse and sacred Cilla and govern Renedos with your power Smintheus; if I ever built a temple that pleased you or if I ever burnt for you the fat wrapped thigh bones of bulls or goats I beg you to fulfill thisplea for me: may the Danaans pay for my tears with your arrows.
This is a pretty significant moment and longly worded curse which stood out.

1. it was cool to see the different perspective in my book

message 10: by Emily (last edited Feb 10, 2022 07:54AM) (new)

Emily Wolf | 6 comments The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

"Chris slept. And dreamed about death in the staggering particular, death as if death were still never yet heard of while something was ringing, she gasping, dissolving, slipping off into void while thinking over and over, I am not going to be, I will die, I won't be, and forever and ever, oh, Papa, don't let them, oh, don't let them do it, don't let me be nothing forever and melting, unraveling, ringing, the ringing to the win. The phone!"

This stood out to me because it's really descriptive if what it's like to have a nightmare and really allows the reader to understand how the character is feeling.

Alex | 8 comments ". . . Quintuplets."

message 12: by Addison (new)

Addison Benz | 7 comments “The power is bound to your
life. The only way to get it back would be to kill you. And since I like
your company, I'll pass on the offer." I thought this line was funny in the context of the chapter

message 13: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie Greco | 9 comments ""His addiction scared me sometimes" this quote stood out to me because it has a deep meaning than it seems Addicted to You"

message 14: by Safe (new)

Safe | 2 comments "Always say less than necessary. The more you say, the more likely you are to say something foolish."

message 15: by Henry (new)

Henry Rouch | 9 comments Colin wrote: "¨Dictatorships may make life miserable, but you can never truly legislate joy or enforce its absence¨ I though this quote was a very interesting interpretation."

I like this quote because I agree that you can not control someone's emotions.

message 16: by Calvin (new)

Calvin Talmage | 11 comments Stav wrote: ""I've been chasing sleep for hours and finally accept the fact i'm never going to catch it." This quote stood out to me just because I like how it is worded. (The Culling)"

I like how that's worded too, it reallysoounds like a real thought but still poetic

message 17: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Nakane | 5 comments "My dad tries to shoulder him out, but Malecki has the adrenaline of a desperate man, and pushes my father in." This line stood out to me because it shows how desperate people are becoming because of the tap out.

message 18: by Arielle (new)

Arielle Buzil | 10 comments "Maybe it hurt him more I didn't do it that if I had, but that wasn't why I didn't" I liked this line because i feel like its super powerful that this guy is not letting his dad control his life. Anything Goes: A novel

message 19: by Nell (new)

Nell | 9 comments "He had served the Overlook, and now the Overlook would serve him. He was sure of it. His feet on the stair risers were quick and eager, the hurrying steps of a man who has come home from a long and bitter war." This line stood out to me because you can tell that Jack (the character) is finally cracking after the hallucinations and hearing/seeing things.

message 20: by Kaia (new)

Kaia Cmarko | 6 comments 1/2 Quotes from today's reading that stand out to me are , " You are all the colors in one , at full brightness " This stood out to me because i thought it really explains what the book is trying to get across , the book is trying to get across that even though life can be hard and you feel like your only living for others there is more to the world than your daily life from going to school today and life might seem dark but there brighter places and you just have to wander.

message 21: by Layne (new)

Layne Koury | 9 comments "I love it when the sky makes me feel insignificant." This stood out to me because I think it has an interesting meaning.
It Ends with Us

message 22: by Alex (new)

Alex Mahoney | 7 comments "The increase in productivity was due to such intangibles as liking the people with whom they worked..."
I like this line because when talking about a business, you can't treat people as machines, the human aspect in a job is the biggest part and that is why people will be productive or not productive.

message 23: by Nell (new)

Nell | 9 comments Mackenzie wrote: """His addiction scared me sometimes" this quote stood out to me because it has a deep meaning than it seems Addicted to You""

I relate to this quote honestly.

message 25: by Ezequiel (last edited Feb 10, 2022 09:23AM) (new)

Ezequiel Delgado | 6 comments 1. "Movements are the story of how we come together when we've come apart" This stood out to me because its completely true because if it wasn't for some people that stood up and spoke out everyone would've never spoke out because some people are nervous to know they're the only people speaking out.
The Purpose of Power: How We Come Together When We Fall Apart

message 26: by Eleanor (new)

Eleanor | 11 comments "This time the chaos will take shape, grow jaws and sharp teeth, prowl the corners for any opportunity to attack. And it will have this city dance on its strings."- pg 33

These lines stood out to me because it takes a concept and describes it in a literal sense. The descriptive language is so eerie and really sets the tone.

message 27: by Celeste (new)

Celeste | 5 comments My book is called Tokyo ever after and the lines that stood out to me are "Basically she instigates and I double down. She's the timberlake to my Biel, the Edward to my Bella, the pauly D to my Jersey Shore. My bestie from another teste. My ride or die." These lines stood out to me because i thought they were pretty funny. And that is really what a bestfriend is.

message 28: by Dash (new)

Dash Blixt | 5 comments The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story
the quote "if we never had slavery, that takes away many of the things that push the South to independence" was the one that really stood out to me just because of how much African American history was swept under the rug, the entire couple pages that goes over the major impact slavery had on the War of Independence is really good in its entirety.

message 30: by Layne (new)

Layne Koury | 9 comments Alex wrote: "". . . Quintuplets.""
Why does that stand out to you?

message 31: by Eleanor (new)

Eleanor | 11 comments Nell wrote: ""He had served the Overlook, and now the Overlook would serve him. He was sure of it. His feet on the stair risers were quick and eager, the hurrying steps of a man who has come home from a long an..."

That's such a interesting concept.

message 32: by Annabelle (new)

Annabelle | 6 comments "This time in her dream, the red veins began to accelerate. Tendril upon tendril of creeping red vine spread over the walls, and heat suffused her body." I chose this quote because I like how descriptive the author is about the dream.

message 33: by Jane (new)

Jane Quinn | 2 comments I rarely woke at such a rounded time. I was a man of jagged risings: 8:43, 11:51, 9:26, My life was alarmless.

I think that this is something that people can relate to, when waking up at exactly 6:00 or things like 3:33 everyone has their superstitions

message 34: by Robo (new)

Robo Gallun | 6 comments "The sky was cloudless but a veil of mist hung in the air from the force of the waves slamming down" I chose this quote just because I like the choice of imagery and it gave the reader a very good detail of the setting.

message 35: by Adrian (new)

Adrian | 7 comments A quote that stood out to me was when a character named Swamp Thing said,"My point is reaching for what we may never grasp, be it light or grace, is never wrong." This stood out to me because sometimes we need to take a risk in order for a bigger result from it. And in doing so, it will lead to being more brave. Dark Nights: Death Metal (2020-): Deluxe EditionScott Snyder

message 36: by Adrian (new)

Adrian | 7 comments I agree with you Zeke because if people don't speak out for change or for anything they want, there won't be any change.

message 37: by Ife (new)

Ife | 3 comments Today I read " Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close"
Quote: " Sometimes I think it wold be weird if there were a skyscraper that moved up and down while it elevator stayed in place".

2. The line she shared with me was very deep and true. " Sometimes hesitation scares me".

message 38: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Shoenthal | 6 comments I read Allegedly today. The quote I chose was "You ask me we were doing her a favor". This quote stood out to me because it was in reference to putting a 12-year-old in lookup in jail. I was surprised that people thought it was a good idea to do this and that it wouldn't harm her.

message 39: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Henry | 6 comments will looked horrified. "what kind of monster could possibly hate chocolate page 83. i chose this quote because it was funny.Clockwork Angel

message 40: by Zparks (new)

Zparks | 5 comments everyone knows you never put two brothers in the same boat someone must live to carry on the family name. This line stood out to me because its messed up that basically there saying that only one brother should be allowed to survive and the other one must die

message 41: by Will (new)

Will Gurley | 10 comments "Meanwhile, Samson strides from the arena like a titan. His gaze falls on Cantos's body, and I expect him to look apologetic. Instead, his face is blank, emotionless, and so cold. The match was nothing to him. We are nothing to him." This quote stood out to me, because it painted a clear picture in my head of Samson's intimidation and power. (Red Queen)

message 42: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Shoenthal | 6 comments Nell wrote: ""He had served the Overlook, and now the Overlook would serve him. He was sure of it. His feet on the stair risers were quick and eager, the hurrying steps of a man who has come home from a long an..."
Very interesting take about how the character is breaking. Would not have probably understood that.

message 43: by Nina (new)

Nina Kaiser | 6 comments "Mabey I can break the cycle of self-hatred, going crazy, and imploding. Because really, what good is THAT gonna do in this world??"
I thought that although this quote was kinda aggressive, the idea that hating on yourself doesn't actually solve anything or make anything better stood out.

message 44: by Foster (last edited Feb 10, 2022 01:30PM) (new)

Foster Pratt | 7 comments "...blowing across an open flame, proving at a stroke that hydrogen is indeed explosively combustible and that eye-brows are not necessarily a necessarily a permanent feature on one's face." (Book: A Short History of Nearly Everything) I choose to use this quote because I think it perfectly encapsulates Bryson's writing. He shares these complicated ideas and theories in such lighthearted and easy ways to understand.

message 45: by Ollie (new)

Ollie | 5 comments "I only made it through a few lines before the harsh, unforgiving tone made me too uneasy, and I pushed the page away. These weren't the words of a well-balanced mind." This quote is said after reading something that has already been said once in the book, and it makes me very intrigued as to what the meaning of it is.

"She just left her words hanging in the air, left me with a sense that she, too, knew a little bit about the kind of loss that ripped your heart out, tied it in a knot, and then shoved it back inside your chest." I just liked how this one sounded

message 46: by Max (new)

Max Fervoy | 8 comments Today I read "Mindset"
1. Quote: "My genius not only defines and validates. It defines and validates the company. It is what creates value. My genius is profit."
This quote is completely wild to me, this ceo feels that he is a genius, so his company is a great as well, which is completely arrogant.Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

message 47: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Chow | 7 comments Today I read, "Red, White & Royal Blue". This book isn't incredibly meaningful, so its kind of difficult to find a good line but one that stood out to me is,
"Alex tells her, 'royal weddings are trash, the princes who have royal wedding are trash, the imperialism that allows princes to exist at all is trash. Its trash turtles all the way down.'"
I thought this quote was funny because I reacently read turtles all the way down by John Green and thought it was a cool connection. I also just like the phrase turtles all the way down.

message 48: by Jocelyn (new)

Jocelyn Leigh | 6 comments "Daylight changes your mind about it all, maybe."
This quote made me think about how different a mindset can be during the day compared to the night. It can almost sometimes feel like you're two different people, with different thoughts, emotions, actions, etc. The quote just feels very relatable.

Anything Goes: A novel

message 49: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 6 comments Today I read "No Country for Old Men."

1. "My wife wont read the papers no more. She's probably right." This quote stood out to me because it kind of ties to recent things in my life. Sometimes news is so upsetting you don't want to read it at all.
2. "That SOB will never see a day in court. Not if I catch him he wont." This quote stood out to me because its saying way more than what its literally saying. Especially being said by a cop, its kind of disturbing.

officialeerobutella | 3 comments Young Stamford looked rather strangely at me over his wineglass. "You don't know Sherlock Holmes yet," he said; "perhaps you would not care for him as a constant companion."
