Kristie | 19133 comments Welcome to Team One!

Almeta 9
Rusalka 2-3
Vicki 3
Aya 3-4
Beth
Kristie 2-3

We need someone who would like to keep us organized and keep our score tallied. We also need a team name. Any ideas?

Kristie | 19133 comments I've been doing some gophering, but am waiting for everyone to check in and decide which site we'd like to read for first. I'll add my options a little later.

I can be the scorekeeper if needed, but I may also be answering questioned for the other groups as well, so if someone else wants to do it, that'd great.

I do not have any original name ideas yet. Just wanted to get the thread started and see if I could find some more of our team players around. :) Any name suggestions are appreciated.

Here's what came to my mind:

That's One for the Books
Running by the Book
Making a Run for It
One on the Run
One Runs Amok
Run That by One More Time
Run as One
One Hits the Road
One Went That-A-Way
Run Around Town
Take the Book and Run
A One-Horse Race
One Leg at a Time

("One" could preface any of these, somehow.)

Kristie | 19133 comments Thanks for linking, Almeta.

I have books that fit the following tasks, so whichever location we go with I should have something I can read. I have used a couple of books for more than one task, so some of the tasks won't work in conjunction with others. There are also some books that I would like to read more than others. I can commit to at least two to start regardless of which site we choose and will hopefully add a third later.

Chicago: 2, 6, 8
New York: location, 1, 4, 10
Boston: 1, 6, 9
London: location, 8, 10
Berlin: 4, 5
Tokyo: location, 2, 7

Book details are in my planning thread, here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Kristie | 19133 comments I like something with running and books, like 'running through the books'. I also like 'run as one'. Good suggestions, Almeta. Anyone else have thoughts on a name?

Anyone want to claim scorekeeper or have a preferred site to start with?

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11456 comments I can commit to 9 books. Since I intend to read those from my above list sometime this month, I already have arrangements to obtain those titles. (I usually squeeze in a few more reads in a week.)

I can be very flexible and read for most any task that is required. So I am going to stop gophering now and see what the rest of the team is able to fill in.

Based on what I have so far, I could read 1 title from each city to complete a circuit, for the one time 10 point bonus. AND then fill in for the tasks of the other cities that the team chooses.

message 9: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11456 comments @Kristie

What are the books that you " would like to read more than others"?

message 10: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Hey teamies! Had a bit on today, so just coming in to check it all out.

Team name, happy with whatever. You can use "One" as in the royal we. So on what Kristie was suggesting following on from your list Almeta, you could do something like "One Runs Through the Books"?

Off to gopher before bed.

message 11: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Oh and I will probably get through 2-3 books during the week.

message 12: by Ayacchi (last edited Feb 06, 2022 05:00AM) (new)

Ayacchi | 1722 comments My head spinning seeing all the tasks and trying to remember my TBR, lol. I'll look for the tasks that fit me bit by bit.

The Martian

New York:
4. Translated into other language Dear John
6. Gold in title Gold Boy, Emerald Girl
10. Author born in China Gold Boy, Emerald Girl or Jewish MC Soon

Berlin:
6. Set during a war The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

Tokyo:
2. E, D, O Dear John

⭐ preferences

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments My brain cannot function at the moment. So not very helpful for gophering. But I can see I have at least 3 books I can read for each site, so very happy if you guys want to choose a starting place and I will fit in around you when I can log in tomorrow arvo (I've got meetings all morning).

message 14: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Feb 06, 2022 06:06AM) (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments I agree that we should pick one site and add one book from each other site to start.

message 15: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Feb 06, 2022 06:29AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I just remembered, I think I have a location book for every site except Chicago (started that two weeks ago but may have a back up...). Some are a lot longer than others, or non-fiction, which may take me longer to read and therefore less books overall, but if we think those bonus points are important, then we can do that.

Now sleeping

Edit - Oops one for Mass. but not Boston.

message 16: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Feb 06, 2022 06:41AM) (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments Good night, Rus!

I think we can easily cover each site. It doesn't have to be the location specifically, just one task from each site. I'll have to go check the rules to make sure I added that correctly!

Edit: We're good! lol

message 17: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments I also like "One Runs Through the Books" for a team name. Any other thoughts? If we're all good with it, I'll change it later today.

Kristie wrote: "I also like "One Runs Through the Books" for a team name. Any other thoughts? If we're all good with it, I'll change it later today."

That works for me, I think we could also just do
Team One: Running through the books. Or running through our TBRs. The royal we is a bit off maybe. But I'm down with it if everyone likes it

I noticed no one eagerly volunteered to keep score! :P
SHY?

I am willing to do it. I probably have more time on my hands than most of the team. BUT if you have a "spreadsheet fetish", now is the time to speak up!

message 22: by Ayacchi (new)

Ayacchi | 1722 comments I'm not good with spreadsheet, I'd only making it complicated, lol.

@Kristie, I may do 3-4 short books for starter

message 23: by Vicki (last edited Feb 06, 2022 11:01AM) (new)

Vicki | 1538 comments I think I can do 3 but 1 paper and 1 audio for sure
I seem to favour New York or Berlin. Also I can find other paper books easily it's audiobooks from my library that are harder to get. I borrowed all these so I have them now.

Paper books - 1 only, maybe 2 but probably not
Berlin 2️⃣ The Melting Queen (300 pages)
Berlin 9️⃣ The Sound and the Furry or
New York 1️⃣ The Sound and the Furry (320 pages) or
London 🔟

Audiobooks - any 2
Berlin 6️⃣ The Cellist of Sarajevo (05:19:05)
Chicago 🌎 Dark Matter or
London 8️⃣ Dark Matter (10:08:58)

I was hoping you might volunteer... lol ;)

message 26: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments The team name has officially been changed to Team One Runs Through the Books.

message 27: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments I made an attempt at combining our gophering.

We have books for:

Chicago 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 (L)

New York L, 1, 3, 4, 9, 10 (6)

Boston 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 9 (10)

London L, 1, 2, 7, 8, 10

Berlin L, 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 (9)

Tokyo L, 2, 7, 8

I added the preferred books to the list with our secondary options in parenthesis. I did not keep track of who with what, just wanted to see where we were at for choosing a location. Rus, I put the locations down as your preferred since that's all I had for you so far. There were 3 of them. I can't remember exactly which 3, but not Chicago or Boston.

I'm sure this will change, but I wanted us to have a starting place. It looks like Chicago and Berlin would be good starting places with New York and Boston close behind. Would you all like to start with one of those?

I don't mind reading for the site we choose or choosing a book from other sites to try to complete the circuit. I have books from all the sites that I really want to read.

I still think we should start by planning one site plus one book from each of the other sites. That should be doable and we might even be able to complete a second site.

@Vicki, I included your best combos and added the Chicago Location.

@Rusalka, I have you down for three locations: New York, Berlin and Tokyo

@Ayacchi, I included all of yours, with a star next to your prefered reads.

message 33: by Vicki (new)

Vicki | 1538 comments Looks awesome

I think for my Berlin books switch off Melting Queen since you have one too and put The Sound and the Furry in #9 for the dog task. There's no number 8 on the main page in Belin, which is where Master & Commander would be

message 34: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Feb 06, 2022 03:43PM) (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments Thanks, Almeta!

Which site do you all want to start with? Preferences for how we go about this? It would be good to have a plan so we know which books we'll be starting with and can start filling in the gaps. Right now we are spread out all over the place.

I tried to pm Beth, but had an reCaptcha issue. I've tried several times, but it keeps saying, "reCAPTCHA verification failed, please try again." I thought maybe it was because I tried to send the link to the group thread, but even without it I get the same message. It seems to think I'm a bot, but there is no place to check a reCaptcha box. So strange. Does someone else want to try?

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11456 comments I propose that we start with Chicago, Illinois,

🌎Set in Chicago (Illinois) ~ Vicki, Dark Matter

1️⃣Read a book set in the 1600s ~ Almeta, The Familiars

2️⃣Read a book with fire on cover or an MC who is a firefighter ~ Kristie, ⭐Sitting Murder

3️⃣Read a book with the word “Lake” in the title ~ Ayacchi, Rescue at Lake Wild

4️⃣ Read a book with the title in cursive ~ ~ Ayacchi, Dear John

5️⃣Read a book with a heart on cover ~ Almeta, Nefertiti's Heart

6️⃣Read a book with a MPG of science fiction or magic ~ Kristie, ⭐The Mermaid's Sister

7️⃣Read a book with dual timelines ~ OPEN

8️⃣Read a book with both a female author and a female MC. ~ Kristie, ⭐Finlay Donovan Knocks Em Dead

9️⃣Read a book that is also a movie or TV show ~ Ayacchi,
A Wizard of Earthsea OR The Martian

🔟Read a book with one of the words “brownie,” “chocolate," or “treat” in the title ~ OPEN

City Locations ~ Rusalka, New York, Berlin and Tokyo
AND Kristie, London

This leaves 2 OPEN Tasks and Boston for Beth or one of us to fill, in order to complete Chicago.

THEN let's work on another CITY. perhaps Boston or Berlin.

message 37: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11456 comments @Kristie

Am I reading the Scoring correctly?

We receive 10 points for each task including Locations.

and Then 10 more if the setting is the city or 5 points if only the state/country.

OR

is it Location will get only 5 or 10 points. (Not a 10 point task reward also.)

Dear John by Nicholas Sparks or Dear John by Nicholas Sparks

And I'd like to change book for task 3 to Rescue at Lake Wild, it's shorter

Beth is set to "not receiving messages" when I try a private message. I tried to reply to her "sign-up" post, but that thread has been closed. The only other option that I see is to reply/attach myself to one of her posts in the "Yearly YLTO! challenge". I don't feel that is appropriate.

message 42: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments It is 10 points per task, except for the location, which is 10 points if it is in the exact city, but only 5 points if it's in the larger area in parenthesis. So, location gets either 5 or 10 points, no bonus. Each site is a total of 105 or 110 points, plus the 20 point bonus if you've completed all the tasks.

The 10 point bonus is if you complete at least 1 task from each site. It does not need to be the location; it can be any task.

message 43: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments I don't know if I'll be able to complete four books this week. The three listed for Chicago should be fine, but the added London task may be too much. Can you leave London open for someone else? If I think I'm going to be able to read more, then I'll let you know as early as possible so you can add one, but I'm typically a 2-3 book reader.
