My free space book is going to be....

I have played before but it's been awhile. I don't mind being captain. I just need to make sure the rules haven't changed too much.

Looks like we'll get a shelf soon. :-)
I won't be able to decide on a book until I know the task for a different game. Should know that by Friday morning.

This is the first book in the Epicurium Series and it was also also a first time read of this author and i just have to say wow. I had no idea what i was getting into when i started this book as i had actually picked up book 2 in this series at a discount store and thought ok this sounds interesting.
There are really 2 stories going on at the same time. The chapters switch between Eliana & Rielle. Eliana's point of view is set in the future and Rielle's point of view is set in the past. Holy wow - there is a lot of information packed into these 501 pages. The book feels like a new take on the "hunger games'. Different but similar. There are characters to love and of course, characters you cant help but hate but as for Eliana & Rielle - they stand up on their on merits. I am looking forward to fitting the next book in this series into another challenge because i cant wait to see what happens next.

I had forgotten how much I really like this series...Ture and Maris oh wow...they both have been through so much and the backstory of them telling how they were perceived when "family", if you want to call them that, when they found out that they were gay was absolutely heartbreaking, I can't wait to find out what happens next in the next book - it's gotta be good because things were heating up with the "League" so I imagine Keir is not going to go quietly into the night. Sherrilyn really brought the pain and torture of these 2 characters to the forefront of the story. Maris -i absolutely loved his humor - he just sounded adorable. I hope to read book #6 in the series soon.

Review: I had no expectations about this book and I was pleasantly surprised by it. I am amazed that I can find so much humor in a book with gory elements. This is a sci-fi/PNR crossover with werewolves, vampires, aliens and vampires. Dina is an "innkeeper" with a magical house that provides sanctuary for supernatural creatures. When some unknown creature starts killing the neighborhood dogs, Dina teams up with werewolf Sean to find out what's going on. Bonus points for it being set in my home state of Texas.

Sci Fi Romance Shelf (as selected from group bookshelves)
After Dark by Jayne Castle

Series: Harmony #1
Rating: ★★★★☆

Review: As usual for this author (who also writes as Amanda Glass, Jayne Ann Krentz, Amanda Quick, Stephanie James, and Jayne Taylor), great writing.
I enjoyed this one. But it was not a re-read as I expected coming back to this series. I was thinking #1 had been Amaryllis which was first published. That book was actually one of the first sci-fi romance books I ever read.
This one still held up after all these years. The same SF elements. Characters that were quickly developed and not TSTL.
Just missed the 5-star mark for me by not really standing out from rest of series or adding to the world building. The dust bunny, of course, was an excellent part of the book. The "mystery" element was okay but heroine's trauma was dealt with too lightly (and the growth of her powers a bit too convenient).
That last paragraph was about minor things. I truly enjoyed the read and her writing drew me in as strongly as ever.

Free Space (as selected from group bookshelves)
Blaze of Memory by Nalini Singh
Finished: February 6, 2022
Series: Psy-Changling, #7
Rating: ★★★★☆
Number of pages: 400
Review: Seven books into series and still going strong. I always get immersed in the writing and there's plenty of action to move it along.
I've also learned when reviewing this series not to analyze it too hard or my irritations will make it sound like they were not afterthoughts and instead spoiled the read -- I truly don't notice while reading things I cringe at afterwards like the virgin to sex maniac trope. I'm still not completely sure how her connection to the psy net was handled.
My only disappointment is that the overall series story arc again did not advance that much. On the other hand, the last chapter hint at goings on with the Arrows was a welcome surprise I look forward to seeing more of in next books.

I had no idea this author had so many pseudonyms!

Yeah, in pre-internet days made her books hard to track down even snail mailing to "Avenue of the Americas." Confusing back then, too, when books would get reissued with new titles and/or pseudonyms. Nevermind figuring out if something was a standalone or a series.

Alternate Reality shelf
Wicked Hour by Chloe Neill
Finished: February 10, 2022
Series: Heirs of Chicagoland, #2
Rating: ★★★★☆
Number of pages: 341
Review: A good read. Only second book in this spinoff series and not quite the *ooomph* of Chicagoland Vampires. But, I like the characters and even the budding romance. Passion but not losing their heads and forgetting all about the dangers and the politics. I think more politics and characters got added rather than resolving current situations or I'd like it better. It was nice that she was introduced to more of Connor's pack.

I have been meaning to read this book-series for quite some time. Keep running into it whether at the book stores or Goodreads...that being the case it popped up on this shelf and I thought what the heck - I'll give it a try...i really enjoyed it. Kel and Rhy made an unlikely duo (brothers if not by blood) and the addition of Lila was a major boon to the book. I really liked Kel & Lila together and the adventure, fights etc was just bone chilling. I thought it interesting that the author did not choose to pursue the "romantic" side of things but it really worked. There is a lot of information and character development and i kept thinking what could possibly be left and then the book ended...really? i am going to see where book #2 lands for the more bingo calls because im hooked...i have to see what happens next with Kel & Lila & Rhy....definitely a really good pick.

Review: It's been almost 5 years since I read book 5, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Elena is the world's only female werewolf and she's pregnant. She and members of her pack are asked to steal Jack the Ripper's "From Hell" letter from a sorcerer's collection. When they do, they somehow open a portal that releases zombies and other folks from Victorian England. They also release zombie rats that carry a deadly strain of cholera into Toronto. I liked the time travel aspect and the historical references. I really liked the vampire, Zoe, and I hope she shows up in future books in the series. The book was fast-paced which is what I enjoy when I'm on a reading deadline.
