R11: Team #7 ~ Series Minions ~

The first two books in the Artists Trilogy are the only ones I have read by Halle and I like her fast paced action filled writing. What other series you were talking about, Lis?
Her Experiment in Terror series... It's kind of ghost busters with messed up characters with baggage. I'm on #8, the series is complete and often you can catch the first several books free or cheap. Darkhouse is the first one.
They are good. One of the Dark House covers is green, too bad you have your pick. They are kind of a horror series and get very creepy, but good. Interesting characters, I've got a few I have to get back to. I was reading back to back around Halloween, then I just had to put them down. Sanitariums, islands, and all the haunted places Perry and Dex go...
So very happy with my book switch... Vlad's books always go too fast, then the wait begins again... How's everyone else's picks going this week? Danielle did you select a final green / teal cover yet?
I've started mine and as Karina Halle likes to finish her books with cliffhangers, I'm struggling a little to pick up the story. It's been a while since I read the previous book, but I'll catch up eventually.
@LisI have read first two books in Jeaniene Frosts Night Huntress' series and totally forgot about it. I need to pick it up again. Everyone keeps telling me it gets better with every next book.
Book: Night Shift anthology

Review:
Secrets at Midnight by Nalini Singh, 3.5*
Bastien's and Kirby's story was pretty enjoyable. Bastien is Mercy's brother found his mate in Kirby, a human, who is actually a changeling.
Magic Steals by Ilona Andrews, 3.5*
Jim's and Dali’s courtship was quite adventurous. Unfortunately I haven't read Magic Dreams, another short story featuring Jim and Dali, published previously. Dali, the white weretiger, has magic abilities but she is insecure. Jim is the opposite. The story was told by Dali's POV.
Lucky Charms by Lisa Shearin, 3*
It was an interesting and funny introduction in a new series starring Makenna Fraser, a seer, and I'll probably be checking the first book The Grendel Affair.
The Beast of Blackmoor by Milla Vane, no rating because this story was more fantasy than I'd like and not really my cup of tea.
Elizabeth, I didn't like Beast of Blackmoor either. I liked the others, but there always seems to be one that just doesn't work.
Sandra wrote: "Elizabeth, I didn't like Beast of Blackmoor either. I liked the others, but there always seems to be one that just doesn't work."It seems that there are people who bought the anthology for this story and loved it. Milla Vane is an alternate name for author Meljean Brook, but I haven't read her Iron seas series or anything else by her.
I've read a couple of Iron Seas, but they didn't really grab me. If I saw the next one at the library I might pick it up, but I'm not going searching for it. They're Steampunk, and it is an acquired taste IMO, and I've read better.
I am reading
for green cover if its green enough... It turns out I had zero books I wanted to read with a green cover and it is surprisingly hard to find an interesting sounding book with one (that isn't half way through a series I haven't read).
Elizabeth wrote: "It seems that there are people who bought the anthology for this story and loved it. And I've read several of the Iron Seas and like the earlier books more than the last couple... But it has zombies and characters that have to overcome their social class issues, which I usually enjoy. Especially since she usually creates strong female characters. Fantasy isn't my cuppa either...
Danielle wrote: "I am reading

The green cover was hard for me too. Let's hope this week we can get a break from colored covers.
Bold Tricks by Karina Halle
finished 3/10/15
Shelf: Green/teal cover
2 stars
Unfortunately I have nothing good to say about the last book in the Artists Trilogy by Karina Halle.
A Trilogy that started very strong with fast moving story, clever twists and interesting characters turned in the last book into mindless, unbelievable and bloody drug cartel war in Mexico and Honduras jungles.
I ended up hating the main character for changing into heartless killer. She just doesn't deserve her happy ending IMHO.

Sorry you didn't like it. I never continued this series beyond books #0.5 and #1, because I disliked the heroine.
Skandia wrote: Let's hope this week we can get a break from colored covers..."I second that! I'd like to read Shield of Winter, so I hope for PNR!
Sorry your book wasn't the best ending for the trilogy... Mine is almost finished and should be able to put up my review before tomorrow's shelf announcement.

Book: Bound by Flames by Jeaniene Frost
Date Read: 3/10/2015
Shelf: Green / Teal Cover
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: This is the third of four books in JF's Bones and Cat spin off Night Prince series with Vlad and Leila. Vlad is of course the all alpha big bad vampire of the Dracula legend and he lives up to his bigger than life character. He is stil obnoxiously over protective of his wife as he is trying to find and destroy his greatest enemy Szilagyi before he kills another of Vlads wives, Leila. Good parts... Liked the flow and action filled pace of the story. Vlad has settled down some and Leila feels less like another one of his subjects. Downside, Leila is again captured which happens every stinking book... Had a hard time with her torture this time round. One more final book to go.
Yay! 9 people have mislabeled
as PNR Romance which works for me... Glad you get to have your Psy-Changling fix Elizabeth... Can't go wrong with Nalini Singh. Skandia I've had that one on my shelf for awhile, maybe I'll need to bump it up...
Since I'm listening to Darkness Falls, I'm also going to read
... I'll probably report on which ever I finish with first... Happy Reading Teamies!!
I am still debating my choice at the moment- but expect finding something I want to read on this shelf should be pretty easy.

The Restorer by Amanda Stevens
Shelf: Paranormal Romance
Finished 3/13/15, 5 stars
I have lately read couple of good "ghosts" books and Amanda Stevens' Graveyard Queen series came with high recommendations, so my expectations were high. I must say I got all I expected and then some! This book was absolutely great mystery story with well developed paranormal feature.
Amelia works as a restorer on an old graveyard and one day a body of a young woman has been discovered in an old grave. Investigation brings her in contact with attractive detective but he's out of limits for Amelia because of her secret unique talent - she sees dead people and this handsome man is haunted. There are rules how to treat the ghosts and she should never ever even associate with those who are haunted.
More bodies appear and Amelias knowledge is needed to catch the serial killer.
Interesting, original and well developed mystery kept me reading and guessing. Surprise twists, good world building when mixing paranormal with ordinary world, and this excellent Southern Gothic vibe made this book very enjoyable.
Yay Skandia! Sounds like that one needs bumped up the list... I like a good ghost story/ mystery...I'm halfway thru Figure of Speech, so I might switch it up since I'm reading faster than listening...
I am almost done Linger- will be posting the review soon. Sorry for the decrease in my reading speed- I have two uni assignments due this week and they are cutting into my reading time.
Book: Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh
Shelf: PNR
Finished:3/16/2015
Rating: ★★★★
Review: So many things took place during this book, mainly the infection of the NetMind and the attempt to fight it and cure it. The story building is the biggest part of the book and is very interesting, thus the romance between Ivy, an E-Psy, and Vasic, aTk-V Arrow, took second place. Moreover, the romance was not satisfying. I expected something different from Vasic. There were some funny moments/dialogues and the little dog was adorable. It was also nice to see other couples' interactions here, especially Sasha and Lucas.

Book: Figure of Speech by Dana Marie Bell
Date Read: 3/15/2015
Shelf: PNR
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: Figure of Speech is the 4th book in the Halle Shifter series which is a spin-off of the Halle Pumas series and takes place in Halle Pennsylvania, where we have a combination of Pumas, Bears, Foxes, Wolf and a few other feline shifter types. The Shifter series follows the Bunson-Williams more or less mixed breed family of bears and foxes and the ruling shifter "senate" and a certain group that are opposed to the mixing of breeds. This is the big mystery that is threaded through all the stories and the families trying to protect there own from these unknown and outside threats. The main characters in this one is Chloe, fox shifter and her "mate" Jim who is older and most recent member of the shifter world. He was a vet and Chloe's boss / mentor that was attacked in a previous book and with out too much spoilery, is coming to terms with the shifter world, mates and his acceptance of Chloe who he felt for years was too young for him. Overall very good book, like visiting Halle and the crazy members of this family again. This is a sad one to get through but also a warm and fuzzy edition as you see how tough Chloe is and what she has overcome. Happy she got her story and looking forward to the next edition and peek into Halle again...
I really really badly need a shelf :) Can't decide what to read next without it. What if I accidentally start a book that fits the next shelf called?
Read:
by Maggie Stiefvater for Green Cover on the 17/03/2015Rating: 3 Stars
Review:
I actually feel bad getting this book 3 stars because I do think I would have enjoyed it (probably would have been a 4 star read) at another time as absorbing quick reads are more suited when my stress levels are this high and I didn't find this book to be either of those things. It was nice to see the characters again but as it has been years since I read the first one I did struggle to remember what exactly happened originally.
Other than what's in line to help us get Bingo as fast as possible I have to admit I am hoping the next shelf isn't a colour (because that is surprisingly hard to find books for) or Sci Fi (as I don't generally read those in that genre and therefore have nothing in mind). I think I am probably hoping for UF actually.I am going to be a few more days with my PNR book as I have very limited reading time at the moment.
Skandia wrote: "I really really badly need a shelf :) Can't decide what to read next without it. What if I accidentally start a book that fits the next shelf called?"I know... Makes it tough, luckily reading the Halle shifter book I noticed a couple of spin off novellas I'd missed. Good quick reads that are filling the gap nicely...
Yay Danielle, the shelf stamp has been requested, sorry the timing and book didn't help... Did you pick a PNR book yet?
We only have two stamps in a row anyway we go... Team 13 has four in a row already! Mr Randomizer needs to leave the "armed and ready" category alone...
CONGRATULATIONS, Series Minions! You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'green/teal'.
[Your updated BINGO card can be viewed on page 1]
Good Job!! :D
