Book: Archangel's Shadows by Nalini Singh (favorite author)
Shelf: Favorite
Finished: 2/26/2015
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: I enjoyed this book, although it was not about Ashwini and Janvier, but about Ashwini and Janvier and everyone else! I loved Ash and Janvier from Angels' Pawn and I was glad to see them finally together. The mystery was a good one. As for the secondary characters Naasir was definitely the star and can't wait for him to hunt for his mate!

Book: High Stakes by Helen Harper
Date Read: 2/26/2015
Shelf: Favorite (UF with Kick Butt Heroine)
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: High Stakes is the 3rd book in the Bo Blackman series. And Bo is still acclimating to the New Order organization working with her Grandfather and several members of the Montserrat vampire family she took with her. Her investigations take her and the team after a serial killer rapist targeting witches, daemons, humans and vampires. Also the Agathos court to bail out O’Shea again and the mess he got himself into this time. The funny investigation is a dog named Kimchi whose owner thinks he’s a vampire dog, which he isn’t. She has to cross paths with Lord Medici and her previous family Lord, Michael who is trying for a “friends with benefits” relationship; he tries to keep up with Bo and her shenanigans… Good Luck! Really enjoy this series and Bo’s inner struggle of coming to terms with being a vampire vs finding a cure. Also her navigation of human vs vampire politics and vampire politics in general. I’d really like to see more smexy material with her and Lord Montserrat in upcoming books. This has moved up to a must buy when released and read asap series, which sucks because I’m all caught up again…
Lis, the Bo Blackman series looks really interesting. I have never read anything by this author but now it's going to my TBR :)I'm struggling with my Favorites book. So disappointing after the Revenants series by same author and that I loved so much.
Not going to change my book though. Good thing it's not that long.
Skandia, I read her Blood Destiny series first and really liked it too. It's a completed series with 5 books. Helen Harper builds really interesting worlds for her characters.
Actually the "feel" of Bo Blackman reminded me of Blood Destiny. Totally different story & world though.
Bo's world is all Vampire families set in London (dare I say, ala Chloe Neill Chicagoland but NOT. For me this is much better...). Blood Destiny is more Shifters, Mages, Fae set in Ireland, London and Russia. But the not so perfect heroine theme is front and center. Both series get better with each book, maybe start off a little slow with the world dumping, but really grow from there.
Read:
by Cassandra Clare for Demons (page 7) on the 28/02/2015Rating: 4 Stars
Review: I was surprised to find that I found this book to be a 4 star read mostly because I really didn't enjoy the Mortal Instruments series. I was actually a bit sceptical when people said this series was better than the other one but since the plot (and setting) did sound interesting I thought I would give it a try. There is nothing amazingly new or refreshing about this series but somehow it just worked nevertheless; it was an easy but oddly adsorbing read that I was surprised to realise I didn't want to stop reading for even a little while. The fact the characters felt more fleshed out in one book of this series then all the books that I read (I lost count- I know I finished the trilogy...but then when she rebooted it with extra books I attempted but didn't refinish the series) of the other series.
Book:Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
Shelf: Free space
Finished: 2/28/2015
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Review:
"Once upon a time, an angel and a demon fell in love. It did not end well."
I didn't really enjoyed the story, although the first half was intriguing and better than the second, which was a huge flash back. Madrigal and Akiva's back story was for me the weakest part of this book. The ending was also a bit disappointing. I'm not sure whether I'll be reading the sequel.
I listened to the audiobook and the narration of Khristine Hvam was ok.
Finally finished with my free-space book (1st stamp, yeah!) and I'll be starting my Demons-shelf book tomorrow.
Finished
for Favorites shelf and it was awful :(I'll do my review tomorrow when I have my laptop repaired.
That stinks Skandia... It sometimes makes the joy of reading a good book into a chore. My Demon pick is good and over 1/2 way thru. Older series, so if I continue it should be complete.
Book:After the End by Amy Plum
Date Read: 3/1/2015
Shelf: Favorites Shelf
Rating: ★★
I must say that my Favorite failed me this time. I loved Amy Plum's Revenant series and my hopes were high. It looked very promising from synopsis - a girl who is lived with clan of people in Alaskan wilderness knowing that there was a WWIII and virtually nothing is left of the rest of civilization, discovers that it's all a big lie. When her people suddenly disappear, she goes to find them. Suddenly she is forced to face the world and the lies told.
It all went sour very quickly. Plot holes the size of volcano, repetitiveness, unlikely turns in story and weak, one dimentional characters made me roll my eyes more than once. It just wasn't believable that a 17 year old girl who has never had any contact with modern world suddenly by miracle adopts it's ways, concept of money, even drives a car that she has never seen before in her life ... all that was just ridiculous and very unbelievable.
Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this book at all and if not read for the Bingo Challenge, I would have DNFed it.

Book: Hotter After Midnight by Cynthia Eden
Date Read: 3/2/2015
Shelf: Demons
Rating: ★★★1/2☆
Review: Hotter After Midnight is the first book in the Midnight series and follows Dr. Emily Drake aka "Monster Doctor" who is a psychologist with patients that are often "Other" paranormal creatures which include, shifters, demons, vampires, charmers, etc. which are not known to the human world. Emily is special because of her gift which is the ability to see "Other" beings and can connect with them empathetically. Detective Colin Gyth is sent for her after being called in by the Police to assist with a vicious crime and she is brought on as a consultant after her initial report that the crime is "Other" and he is a serial killer likely to strike again. There are a few who know of her abilities and work hard to hide the "Others" existence from the rest of the population. Little insta-Lust with the Detective and his personal secret of being a shifter is revealed as they work together to catch the killer before he strikes again. Enjoyed this serial killer mystery with the paranormal twists. Typical "who done it" format while becoming a target too. Very action packed and fast paced read. Will probably continue with the series since its older and only has 3 books.
Requested our "Favorites" stamp too... Hope this week's shelf picks are good ones... 2 reviews in and good so far.

Book:Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
Date Read: 3/4/2015
Shelf: Demons Shelf
Rating: ★★★★★
This book had me totally captivated from the first pages.
Laini Taylor is a genius. She has created fantasy world like no other - wonderful mix of angels and monsters I have never met before, creatures so imaginative and original mixed together with human world so smoothly and written beautifully.
I can't find a fault in this book and it's for sure one of the most unique and beautiful fantasy books I have ever read.
Book:How to Seduce a Vampire (Without Really Trying) by Kerrelyn Sparks
Shelf: Demons
Finished:3/4/2015
Rating: ★★1/2 to ★★★ stars
Review: I think the books of this series are getting worst or maybe I stopped enjoying them and I'll probably stop reading them. I didn't enjoy this one. It was boring and I struggled to finish it. I would have DNFed it, if I wasn't reading it for BINGO.
I didn't care for the main couple, Zoltan, the vampire and Neona, the amazon woman and their case of insta-love.
Looks like we are all up to date now. Great job teammates! And we can start shelf chanting, it's a shelf day!
Yay Ladies!!! We're all caught up! Stamp has been requested for Demons shelf. Sorry I didn't get to it sooner, dead iPad...

Thx Elizabeth... And Steph... And Sandra....Off to hunt a green cover, of course the one I was hoping to read for this week is blue.
I have been saving
which is a chunker and the audio is 47 hours+ Soooooo I'm going to see what else I have before committing to that one...
I didn't have one planned for green cover so will have to go searching- will post my decision tonight most likely.
Lis wrote: "Thx Elizabeth... And Steph... And Sandra....Off to hunt a green cover, of course the one I was hoping to read for this week is blue.

Wow, Lis, you are brave to take on the A Storm of Swords, it's ginormous!I'll go look for my green cover, not the easiest shelf but I'll find something
Skandia wrote: "Wow, Lis, you are brave to take on the A Storm of Swords, it's ginormous!"I know but I've been procrastinating on this one for awhile. I think it's n whispersync, so I can read/listen which should speed it up. I can quickly read another if it looks to be too much...
And Thx for reminding me I have another Karina Halle series to tackle.
