Review: The October Daye series just keeps improving and I could kick myself for waiting so long to read this book. Why did I do that? ... Oh, wait, I have so many series I'm in the middle of, that's why. I'm definitely going to have to move this one up on my priority list, though.
Toby's life as a changeling hasn't been easy, never quite fitting into the human or fae worlds, but she's finally grown comfortable with having close friends. Events around her have calmed down enough that she finally begins looking into the deadly goblin fruit problem, but ends up with unexpected obstacles thrown in her path. I was happy to see that Toby's previous growth holds, as she willingly accepts her friends help instead of choosing to face everything alone. I was also extremely happy that Tybalt, King of Cats, was once again a major player in this book. We also learn more about her squire Quentin's parentage, (view spoiler)
A few new and interesting characters, Toby using her blood magic in new ways, changes in the fae world are all things that make me eager to go right out and buy book 8 and dive right in.
My print version had a bonus short story told from The Luidaeg's point of view (view spoiler) that hints at Toby's importance and increases my eagerness to continue the series.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Shelf: Paranormal Romance
Date read: 14. Mar. 2015.
Rating: 4 stars
This series keeps getting better and better. Sadly it also has less and less humor, but I can live with that.
The plot and characters got more depth. And the romance is such a slow burn... Almost not there, but it is also there. In each glance between Meg and Simon, every thought every missed touch. Knowing Anne Bishop, they will get their HEA in the last book but it will be worth the wait. :)
I expected something bigger to happen in the end, comparing to previous books that had some cataclysmic collapse, this one had pretty tame ending.
But I am intrigued with all the restriction for humans that are announced and that will be implemented in the next book. It will definitely be full of tension.
And we need to wait one year for the sequel. :(

The Greyfriar
Since this was alternative history (and a mix of a handful of other genres), it was disappointing to see women's roles largely unchanged.
That being said, I liked Adele a lot. The authors could have made her weak and stupid, but they didn't. Flay was also a great villain.
I wondered at the Greyfriar's identity. His secret doesn't come as a complete surprise, but it's still a good twist.
I really, really don't like Senator Clark.
With all the books out there featuring vampires as good, this was different. It was refreshing to read one that the vampires are evil, horrible things that hold absolutely no regard for human life.

Review: The first book in series about genetically engineered brothers. Shane's enhanced senses do come in to play quite a bit, reminding me a bit of that TV show The Sentinel, but I would say this is more romantic suspense with a side of paranormal. There's nothing wrong with that though, I really enjoyed reading this book. Shane's amnesia and Josie's lack of knowledge about his past keeps the reader guessing too and it was interesting to try and piece together the bits and pieces as Shane's memories began filtering in.
This was a new author for me and I'll definitely be looking up the rest of the books in this series.

In msg 92 you said you'd finished your green book and would post your review later. Did I miss it? Let me know if I did.

No you did miss it. I forgot to post a review. Oooops :D
I'll write right now. :)

After enjoying the first book and adoring the thrill and romance of second book, I was hesitant to read Heir of Fire. People called it different, some were bored, they said that the romance was not there...
After I finished reading Heir of Fire, I can say that I see what all the fuss was about. Heir of Fire is different: more mature, more like adult fantasy. In some ways it feels like a intro to a cool new fantasy series with a lot of new povs, new awesome characters and dragons.
I enjoyed it and will continue reading this series.

Book: Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris

Date Read: 3/17/15
Rating: 3.75 Stars
Dead Reckoning starts off with a bang. Okay, it was actually a firebomb but whatever. Merlotte's is bombed but the question is why and who/what was the actual target. It's actually answered early on. Poor Sam! It's dangerous being around Sookie.
There is a whole lot going on. A lot of secrets and scheming and death. Well, dammit! Sookie's tired of it. Eric's hiding things from her, Claude and Dermot are hiding things, people are trying to kill her, and everyone makes decisions for her. It's too much and she's had enough. Pam is awesome though :)
It's been a long time since reading Dead in the Family. I think it actually helped me enjoy this so much more. Luckily, it was pretty easy to get back into it without being too lost. I've always been a big fan of Eric but not so much now. I know where things are headed and I think I like it.
Oh, one thing that kind of bugged me... Alcide. I really liked him when he was first introduced but that was snuffed out long ago. He was in her bed waiting for her.... Really? Ugh. I loved how she put him in his place! Onto the next one.

Good Job!! :D

Steph posted the shelf early this week.
Everybody gets to choose from the Shifter Shelf

Most books will probably end up being tagged both ways, but I thought I'd throw out the warning anyway.

I'll be continuing my Sookie binge with

Rachel, I loved Clean Sweep! I know not all people do but it really hit the spot for me :) I haven't read the others though.

But none of them attracts me... *sigh* I'll see how my mood is when I finish my current read...

I'm trying to decide between:

Dragana, I've only read 3 of your choices.

Daffodil, I can't help you at all, lol. Those are all fantastic series! I'm only on the 2nd book in Jane Yellowrock and almost picked it. So many choices!

I like Katie MacAlister, but as you said Daffodil, you had to be in the right mood for her humor.
Daffodil, I can't help you with your choice, since I haven't read most of those series.

And yes of course it's not in my previously listed books. lol
I love Ilona Andrews and this is her only series I didn't read so... :)

I started

Book: Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris

Date Read: 3/19/15
Rating: ★★★★☆
*Some spoilers ahead*
King Felipe is in town investigating the disappearance of Victor and several of his men. Eric, Sookie and Pam must present a united front to make it through this with minimal damage. As usual though, someone messes it all up. First, Eric is set up in a compromising position that punches Sookie in the heart. Then, while wading through the vampire politics someone is murdered on Eric's front lawn and the police are called before they even find out. This leads to many speculations of who, why, and to what gain someone had to do this. I must admit, I had suspicions but it was much more complicated than I had imagined.
There is also the matter of Claude. He's acting very suspicious of late and Sookie wants answers. After Niall shows up to take Claude to Faery with him she comes across a little surprise of her own. She has been gifted a Fae item of power, the cluviel dor. It seems to attract the Fae and without Claude there to lead them they become restless.
To further complicate things, Sam's girlfriend has a vendetta against Sookie and is out to get her killed. While Sookie's life seems to be unraveling, some things are constant. Sam is still her best friend, the humans around her are moving on with their normal lives, Eric is still locked in a marriage contract with the Queen of Oklahoma, Bill is still hopelessly in love with her and Dermot is still a lost adorable puppy.
After the big scheming plot reveal, Sookie has some things to consider. What does she truly want for her life? And who will be part of it?
Like I said with the last book, I'm really enjoying this series again. I didn't have those set ties to anyone anymore because of the break and it has helped tremendously. It also helps that the audios are well done and I read the earlier books. So yes, I think I like where this is headed and I'm looking forward to finishing it off.

Clean Sweep
5* March 21st
Highly unique with excellent world building. It took some time to warm up to Sean. I got to know more about Sean than Arland. I liked Dina right away. IA has a way to really make their female characters shine.
Lots going on and the mystery is solved. I liked the idea of supernaturals being from other planets. Open-ended for more books.

You can read it for free on their website now. Its written in bits then compiled as a full book.

Review: It was an enjoyable read and Kresley Cole certainly can write. I'm not exactly sure what my problem is with the series, but I'm just not connecting with the characters. I'm entertained while reading the book and there's absolutely nothing I can point to as a problem. But, when I'm done and I put the book away ... I'm not motivated to move on to the next one. I'm not emotionally invested in anyone in the series and so I have to push myself every time to start the next one. This is the last of the books that I purchased from Walmart's bargain bin and I'm not sure when I'll get around to looking up the next in the series.

The Edge is the only series by Ilona Andrews I haven't read and now when I finally read the first book, On the Edge, I can only say - why the hell it took me so long.
There are some authors whose writing style is just right for you and that's the thing between Ilona Andrews and me. I love her humor, how she mixes up paranormal and urban elements, her snarky kick-ass heroines and the slow-burn banter-full romance.
On the Edge can be read as a standalone, the next book will be about different couple. I hope I will like them as much as this one. I can't wait to read it and learn more about the world.

Review: I bought this for Singh's & Andrew's stories. Didn't even realize that Milla Vane is Meljean Brook. I'll review the stories in the order I read them, which is not the order they are printed in the book. I wanted to be sure to start and end on a high note. LOL.
"Secrets at Midnight" by Nalini Singh 5 stars.
I loved this chance to read Bastien's story. His sister Mercy and her interference in his love life is referred to quite a bit and she has a short cameo near the end of the story. Certain character's form the Psy-Changeling series may not have a novel length story to relate, but we fans still want to know about them, so Nalini's short stories are wonderful additions to the overall universe.
"Lucky Charms" by Lisa Shearin 3.5 stars
New author for me. Shearin's Raine Benares series has been on my radar for quite some time, but I haven't had a chance to start in on it yet. This is a prequel to her new SPI Files series and was an entertaining read with humorous moments sprinkled throughout. I'm interested to see where Mac & Ian's working partnership leads, but I hope we'll see more of bad guy Rake Danescu too.
"The Beast of Blackmoor" by Milla Vane 4 stars
aka Meljean Brook. This story was sword & sorcerer/high fantasy as opposed to UF. Both characters are driven to rid Blackmoor of The Destroyer's agents, but seemingly at odds in their methods. I'll definitely be looking for more from MB set in this world.
"Magic Steals" by Ilona Andrews 5 stars
Fantastic! I loved finding out more about Dali & Jim. Seeing Dali's magic in action and how it works was interesting. I especially loved Jim's trust in Dali and how he sees her. August and Kate Daniels Book 8 cannot come soon enough.
I loved this anthology and would give it an overall rating of 4.5 stars.
