Stubborn, lethal, and from Jersey…what more could a Viking warrior want from his woman?

Neecy Lawrence, winged warrior for a Viking goddess and second-in-command of the fierce Crows, doesn’t know what to do with a nice guy. As it is, making up for a past she’d sooner forget leaves her barely polite most days. But Raven leader and loyal Odin warrior, Will Yager, isn’t just

Per Shelly Laurenston's website FAQ:

"THE UNLEASHING is absolutely NOT a rewrite of Hunting Season. It’s a brand new story with brand new characters, location, and hero and heroine. The only thing similar between the two series are the Nordic gods and the Clan mythology I created (the Crows, the Ravens)."

Next Question:
"Will you continue the Magnus Pack or The Gathering series?

Not at this time. Although I do hope to continue these two series in the future, I have no idea when in the future that will be."

This was not a good book for me from this followed author. It was a slow start, the first 50% dragged. The second half picked up and was a lit more lively but I just couldn't connect with the characters or with was happening. The pairing of this couple, a Raven and Crow, I never got it, why did he want her so ? Yeh the author told me why but I never felt it. That lose of connection with the characters just left it flat and meh for me. I am moving on with the series beacuse i know this author

This was fantastic! Funny, great storyline and great "cheeky" characters. Loved it!

Can't help it, each time I read this I like it more. 5 stars

I have to adjust my rating a little bit ... I was looking for a comfort read the day before yesterday and look what I got: I read Hunting season again ... so, when a book is good enough for a comfort read it has to be a keeper, right?!

so, instead of 3,5 stars it gets 4 stars from me .. and here my original review:

The last of my super February Laurenston marathon.

This book was something of a departure from her other paranormals. It still has the unmistakable Laurenston dual stamps of outrageous humor and sexiness. But instead of focusing on shifters this one borrows from a different mythology altogether.

Using Norse mythology as the background, the main characters are the Ravens of the God Odin and the Crows of the goddess Skuld. By day they look and act like regular people, who hold down regular jobs. Bu

This books is vulgar and fun!

Neecy Lawrence is a Crow. Crows are women who are murdered and given a second chance by being brought back to life by the Viking goddess Skuld. They are called The Gathering. The Crows chase, capture, (and usually) kill people who commit crimes against the Viking gods and goddesses (steal magical runes, etc).

Will Yager is a Raven. Ravens are descendants from the original protectors and warriors of the Viking god Odin.

I loved this book, it had the perfect combination of humour, romance, sex, violence and bitchy female frienships that I adore. If you are a fan of SL other works then you will definately enjoy this and if you have never read anything by her, then this is a good place to start! I am really hoping that she writes more in this series soon as I absoloutley love it!

Here are some quotes that I really loved from this book to try and induce others to read it!

I don't think I laughed so much from a book.An amazing read, Shelly knows a way to a woman heart with these sexy men!!!! I fell in love with Yager from the beginning he is amazing. I have to say that at times I wanted to slap Neecy in the face, but when she came around I loved her lol. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read a Shelly Laurenston book. You would not be disappointed!!!! And I have a feeling Arri and Mike are going to be together, well I hope they are!!!

9/10 - I'm going into this with a little bit of trepidation as, if you have been following my trials and tribulations with Laurenston's Pride series you'll understand when I say, I'm a little nervous of not being able to connect with the characters or feel their connection with each other. To be continued...

13/10 - I would put this at pretty good, reasonable, and above average, a solid 3.5. Better than a number of her Pride series books. I was able to connect with both characters better than I h

Laurentson is my new favorite author. This book was definitely not like others I've read. It's about the Crows (women sworn to the Viking goddess Skuld) and the Ravens (men sworn to the Viking god Odin).

They uphold the will of the gods and do their best to rid the world of evil, yadda yadda.

Second in command of the Crows is Neecy. She's a bad ass chick who is doing her best to stay away from the leader of the Raven's Will. Too bad he wants nothing more than to stay in her path.

As those two are

I really had to think about how to rate this book. I liked the characters, but the story was so over riddled with sex that there was no plot movement. Now don't get me wrong I love reading a good sex scene. Especially when the sex is used to further the plot or reveal a characters real nature, because inhibitions are down during sex --but this sex was just page filling irrelevant. I had hope it was getting better in the last third (during healing) but unfortunately it digressed back into only se ...more
I had a great time reading this. Must admit, the hot cover was the main reason I picked this one up in the first place since I am not a shifter fan (this is my fourth shifter-related book). And I was very relieved that SL didn't elaborate too much details on the shifting parts.

Yager and Neecy were very scorching HOT together and very much were not for the faint heart. I loved them and all their 'bird' family especially the crazy Mike. Hoping (and wishing) for book #2 next.

A story of Ravens and Crows; Neecy and Yeager; as the story unfolds we learn that Crows are a group of women who are offered a new life as champions of the goddess Skuld; Ravens are Nordic heirs and champions of the God Odin. Both fight for their Gods, both are strong and intelligent, both are trying to keep the world safe from the magic's of the other side.

The good: Great beginning familiar themes and plot from a favored author.

The bad: Not as good as any of her other works. I actually found

Another great book by Shelly Laurenston. In the characteristic Laurenston writing, this book is full of humor, a very different, creative world, intriguing and likeable characters. Neecy was a strong, smart, very stubborn woman, who dedicated her whole existence to her goddess Skuld, and Yager was the "nice" guy, so in love with her he would do anything to have her. This book also sets up the series for a few follow up books which I'd be looking forward to (Janelle & Tye, Arric & Mike). ...more

I read half the book and stopped. I couldn’t get interested.

Crows: When women die the Viking goddess Skuld brings them back to life. She gives them wings and fighting skills. Ravens: Males are born not made. At puberty wings appear. They do things for the Viking god Odin. Every once in a while Hunters come along who want runes or magic things that the Crows have. I don’t know why the Crows have runes. In one scene Hunters open a door to hell that the Crows need to close. It’s don

I'm not sure what it is about this book - I know a lot of fans do not like this one - but I absolutely love it. Not quite as funny as a lot of SL's books - a bit darker, perhaps, but I find myself rereading this at least twice a year and enjoying it every time. I think I'm in love w/Yeager and Neecy both! It kills me that SL does not plan to continue the series - if nothing else, at least tell Mike and Arri's story as well as Janelle and Tye's! Maybe one day - but then again, the last couple of ...more
My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at

Hunting Season has been on my TBR list for a long time. Needless to say that books that aren’t on audio tend to take me longer to get to. I have so much more time to listen than read. So, when I saw that this was coming out on audio, I jumped at the chance to review it. This book was written in 2009 and there doesn’t appear to be any more book in this series coming. In my opinion, it is because she chose to take this

I think I read somewhere that Shelly Laurenston said that Hunting Season has nothing to do with the Call of Crows series (you can find what she said here), but I don't fully buy it. The reason I wanted to read Hunting Season in the first place was because of Neecy's character. Now I know that it might not be the same Neecy from the Call of Crows series, but the stories somewhat match up which leaves me unconvinced. But none of that really matters since the similarities between the two series ...more

Shelly Laurenston can do no wrong.

Loved the humor, the characters, the story.

Funny quotes:

1-“I’d like this dress more if I wasn’t forced into it.”
“Yeah.  Janelle held me down while the rest of ‘em put it on me.” Yager stood up straight, his eyes looking off blindly.
“My God, woman.  The visual.  Was there porn music in the background?”

2- “Hey, Chuck.  Do me a favor and stop at the drug store before we get to Dr. Lawrence’s apartment.” “You got it.” He looked over at Neecy and found h
Valkyries, Norse myth and wings instead of claws and fur

Even though I loved the wings, and I loved the Norse mythological elements, and I normally really really really like Laurenston - I think her 'crass and sass' humor is a hoot - Hunting Season just did not end up being my favorite Laurenston book. So it may be that since I am not an e-reader, trying to read this on my PC spoiled my enjoyment (It took me a really long time to finish Hunting Season, so maybe I should have waited for the print r
5 stars. This is my first Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aiken book and I think, we like each other just fine. This was the first installment of The Gathering Series. If you like Dark-Hunter, LOTU, Alien Huntress with erotica flavor mixed in, you will like this book. It was an easy read and a page turner. I finished it in a couple of sittings.

The plot was good. It mainly prepped readers for what’s to come. I love the H/H. They complemented each other well. Tho, at times, I wanted to stranger Neecy for f
Wilhelm Yager, leader of the Ravens knows one thing, Neecy Lawrence is going to be his. Neecy is part of the New Jersey Crows and although they both are fighting for their own clan, he has a plan to get Neecy in his bed, apartment, and wherever else he can take her. Neecy is not interested though, she doesn't want to be anywhere near Yager. Will makes her a proposition though, 24 hours in his bed. Neecy agrees however she doesn't realize that Yager has some loopholes of his own.

Nothing makes me laugh harder than Shelly Laurenston. This was a lot like Mane Squeeze, geeky tough guy meets brazen Jersey girl who kicks ass and causes pain. This formula will never get old for me.

This is my first shifter series involving crows and ravens (Vikings), who knew birds could be so funny?
4.5 stars! Another really great read from Laurenston. I liked that she integrated her shifter world world with this mythological-based one. I hope that she continues the series (it would be great to get Tye/Janelle's and Mike/Ari's stories!)....
3 Underwhelmed Stars

This book is the story of Raven Yeager and Crow Neecy. As the story unfolds, we learn that the Crows are a group of women who were offered a new life (referred to as their second life) as champions of the goddess Skuld, whilst Ravens are Nordic heirs and champions of the God Odin. Both fight for their Gods, and are fierce, strong and intelligent beings, who try to keep the world safe. Sounds good right, but the normal Laurenston magic just wasn’t there for me.

This story has fighting, gore, and the most heart melting commitment. The girl fights the guy but only because of her insecurities. He is beyond good to her. Be prepared for graphic loving.

I swear, I worship at the alter of Shelly Laurenston's writing talent. I just finished Hunting Season for the second fact, I just finished rereading all of the books I have that she's authored, alternating with a new book in between, because I had gotten into a reading slump, picking books that were highly rated but I wasn't liking very much. Returning to the Magnus Pack, or reviewing the Pride stories, or spending time with my favorites - the Dragon Kin Series (which she pens under th ...more

First in The Gathering paranormal romance series revolving around Valkyries, Ravens, Crows, Odin, and Skuld in the Viking pantheon.

My Take
This was fabulous! Not uproariously funny like her Pride and Magnus Pack series, but Laurenston still creates a storyline you can't resist. Between her horny Ravens and party-lovin' Crows, Laurenston has created unique characters with extremely individual traits. The Ravens are like a frat boy party 24/7 while the Crows tease, harass, and support each other da

Hunting Season is about Denise"Neecy" Lawrence, a history professor with PhD by day and a fearless Crow second in command by night. She feel annoyed since Willhelm Yager, The Raven's leader seems interested to her and always follow her like a dog with bone, or a bird with worm. Whatever. Yager want Neecy for forever even Neecy think she's not worthy for him. She was drug dealer before she gunned down by her boyfriend, almost dead and become Crow. Neecy thing Yager is a nice guy.
