YA post-apocalyptic novel read as a 14 year old in 2006. It was part of required reading so it was district approved.

This book was about a boy/man who was seemingly alone in the world and would travel around to see if he could find people. It was post-apocalyptic but I am not sure what happened to the population. At one point I think he needed to drive somewhere but he was running out of gas. That part was suspenseful in that you wanted him to make it. I think the cover was purple-ish with a silhouette of a man walking near a house. Again, I read this in 2006 as a required reading in school in which they provided us copies of the book. I was a freshman so it was a book suited for that age group.

I’m not sure. I want to say it was a teenage boy. Just the overall tone of the book seemed like a teenage boy

It wasn’t the last man. I read the book in 2006 and the publication date for that was 2012.

It may have seemed like a newer book. The book was provided for me at school so it must have been at least a few years old. What did stand out to me is that The book seemed like an odd choice to me for it to be a part of the unit we were doing in my English class.

That’s a good idea but Since it was so long ago, I’m not sure they would have digital records of that. I could definitely try though

You never know! My school was seriously reusing 30 year old readers on us on occasion. :S I can't tell if that was because I had a really old teacher and she had clung onto those, or if they were still in circulation, so to speak. :S
