Week 5 | Spot # 38

Cover Up by L.A. Witt
320p
(Skin Deep Inc. #3)
Read: 2/20/22
Rating : 3 stars
Review
I haven't read anything by this author in the last two years and for the past 3 days I read 2 new to me books by them. While I like the first this one felt more the same as the last book. I was kind of bored. There was excess amount of imitate scenes and I just become de interested mid way through. Overall, It was an okay read.

Murder at the Ice Ball by Leighann Dobbs
Pages: 280
How it Fits: Lady Katherine Regency Matchmaker #3
Date Read: 2/20/22
Rating: ✶✶✶1/2
Review: A fun historical, cozy mystery. Lady Katherine is a matchmaker that spends most of her time investigating murder. And she always gets her murderer, usually with little effort. 🙂 The series is cute, sometimes silly. But I do enjoy it.

Destruction's Ascent by T.A. White
507 Pages
Date Read: 2/23
Rating: 3/5 Stars
Review: There are things that are still driving me crazy about this series. Mostly the person Tate was in her past is SO VASTLY different then who she is now. In the here and now she's kind of a pushover. It also really bothers me that no one tells her anything (cough RYU) and then she runs off rashly and ends up in trouble over and over again. Still I LOVE the secondary characters and I enjoyed the mystery in this one. I will definitely finish this series but I liked her Broken Lands series more.
Bonus Point: One point can be earned for reading a book with >500 pages.

Rated 5 stars
Review:
I loved this book the ahthor kept the action moving from one scene to the other. There were also multiple storylines and this what made the story so enjoyable because the tension just builds and you as the reader what to know what will happen next. Throughout the book we get an insight into the P.I and her fiance as well as some of their families.

How it fits: Matti Baker #3
Review: Overall, this third Matti Baker installment was just confusing. I didn't understand a lot of it. Some parts went too fast (similar to what I've experienced with the prior two books as well). Things jumped around a lot, and the "truth" was even more convoluted.

I take it you don't have KU - it's loanable so if you can find someone that owns it they can lend it to you. I looked to see if I borrowed from KU if I could lend it but it won't let you do that.

Yeah I've been reluctant to use KU because I don't want another Amazon subscription, they're getting enough money from me already. I'll figure it out. I could potentially borrow-buy it and return it within the week, but more than likely I'll just read something else and maybe get to it for another #4 if we get another one.

Review: I will admit I'm currently very conflicted about this one. As a reader, it's still an old favorite, and I don't want to give it up. As a teacher, I'm not sure if I can use it in my future classroom without a lot of discussion, and I don't think it would necessarily be appropriate for the grade level I want to teach.

Spot #: 46

The Duke by Kerrigan Byrne
Pages: 385
How it Fits: Victorian Rebels #4
Date Read: 3/1/22
Rating: ✶✶✶1/2
Review: After one hot night, it takes years for Imogen and the Duke of Trenwyth to get together. Once they did, they made good sparring partners and lovers. There was also a murder mystery keeping things interesting. This was a historical romance with a lot of emotion and heat.

Rating: 3.5 (Rounded up to 4)
Review: So this series is highly entertaining but I do admit each book is VERY similar to the previous books. I think I was just a tiny bit disappointed with this one is that I wanted more interactions between Asa and Avi. Despite both those things I really did like this book and I'm looking forward to the next book when it's published.
BONUS: Finished a series. Read books 1 -4 (all published books) in this series and used for this challenge.

This was such an, intense, intriguing, sexy, dangerous, and dark game of cat and mouse. The development of the characters was excellent and i felt that the emotions were raw and intense. This story was not only about passion, but hatered, obsession, and revenge.

This was a quick one. What can I say? I liked these types of books ten years ago. In 2022, it is alright. I felt no connection in the relationship, and they had many serious events and everything is glossed over because they were mates and in love.

Rating: ✶✶✶✶1/2
Review: I really enjoy this series. I find myself grinning and chuckling a lot. Simone and Roscoe made a good couple. In this book, Big Bad Dad, Darrell, shows up. So there was a bit of mystery, since Simone, an undercover agent, was investigating murders and following Darrell. There was plenty of emotion, heat, mystery and humor. Perfect for me!

This was one of the best book l have read so for. I love when a good story has a lot of surprises and this was packed full with the . I l9ve that they went through all the trails not just zs a couple but separately as well. That just made the love that they felt for each other that much more stronger.

When Whiskey Stops Working by Aria Grace, 216p/gr
(Mile High Romance #6)
review:
I've decided I don't like this one. I felt no connection between the MCs. The serious bit was stuff near the end of the books. It felt pretty minor because after all, that heavy conversation is impeding the couple from having a happy ending. (2 stars)

Book: Texas Charm by Lyn Gala
Pages: 202
Series: #6 in Aberrant Magic
Rating: 3.5 Stars rounded up
Review: I enjoyed this book but it wasn't what I was expecting. The story had a lot more of a non-magical mystery they were trying to solve and the shaman stuff took a backseat. I liked the MC's but not as much as others in this series and although we got a tiny bit of the DC gang not much. It left some open issues so I imagine this isn't the last we will see of these guys.

Patterns in the Sand by Sally Goldenbaum
Pages: 307
How it Fits: Seaside Knitters Society Mystery #2
Date Read: 3/13/22
Rating: ✶✶✶
Review: I like this cozy mystery series. But I think it’s mostly because I’d like to visit this quaint, seaside, artsy town. LOL The mystery was interesting. But the resolution could have been much more exciting. That’s why I gave this only 3 stars.

Spot: 62

Book: Tempting Tate
Pages: 154
How it Fits: #2 in Copper Creek Shifters
Date Read: 3/13
Rating: 3 Stars
Review: This is just an okay series for me - it's the instant lust connection from fated mates and nothing original but it isn't bad. There is a mystery in this book that isn't completely solved so a small cliffhanger. While I don't love this series it's good enough I'll continue it.

Book:

Date read: 3/13/22
Pages: 432
How it fits: Set in New York, US and in the Dominican Republic (both in North America)
Rating: 5 stars
Review: OK I loved that this was kind of like You Have a Match but with more culture, and/or like Tokyo Ever After with two perspectives. I loved the way Camino and Yahaira were both introduced as main characters and equal players. This is the first dual (or more) POV novel where I didn't start off rooting for one character over another, and where there were truly no useless POVs.

I surprisingly read this book quickly. I like that Will's depression wasn't magically cured because he reconnected with his first love. I do wish there bit more background on Kelly but I enjoyed Will and Kelly reconnection.

The Deepest of Secrets by Kelley Armstrong
Pages: 341
How it Fits: Rockton #7
Date Read: 3/20/22

Review: The town of Rockton has always been a colorful, crazy place to be. This was no exception. But this time it felt too manic with Casey’s investigation. But the ending really has me wondering about the future of this series.
