Book: Castor

How it fits: Sons of the Fallen, #2

Rating: 4.5 stars
I love Kyo and Castor! They were perfect for each other. There is action, danger, betrayal (I feel a lot of the books I read lately have this) but also duty, family, and love. It’s strange to say I’m looking forward to a war but I hope to see some demons being demolished!

Book: Dear Enemy
Author: Jean Webster
Pages: 161
Read: 4/3/22
Rating: *****
How it fits: it is the 2nd book in the series
Review: It's not often that the 2nd book in a series is as good or even better than the 1st. Dear Enemy is one of those. Such a good story. And such good characters. I love that the book encourages readers to consider adoption, caring for others, stretching yourself, and to beware of judging.

Three's a Crown by Isla Olsen
Pages: 174
Qualification: Book #2 in Royal & Reckless series
Read: 4/3/22
Rating: ★★★
Not my fav of Isla's books but not bad. I never really liked Aleksandr and didn't really feel his connection with Lennox other than sexually. That said I really liked Boyd and Lennox. Their friends were supportive and generally great. This is one of the menage books that kinda works but not all the way. Can't explain why, just a feeling. Love me a second chance romance so that part I really enjoyed. Fairly steamy which I also love but less humor that other books by the author. Overall a good read but not a great one.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
Pages: 289
Qualification: #9 in Hercule Poirot
Read: 4/4
Rating: 4 1/2 stars
This is one of my favorite Agatha Christie novels. I love Poirot. I love trains. I love books where I think I have figured out the mystery and I am wrong, wrong again, and then wrong a third time. This book is great.
First of all, we have the esteemed Hercule Poirot, so you know it will be good. Second, the entire mystery is set on a train, adding to the intrigue. Train travel is awesome. And third, like all of Agatha Christie's novels, you can't guess the culprit, but once she lays it out in the end, you can't help but nod your head in agreement. She really was the master of mystery. I love her. 4 1/2 stars and a wink for Poirot, because he is awesome.

My Grand-Babies showed up to surprise MawMaw this week & I haven't gotten as much reading time in. I can prolly get one done by time but it would be nice not to stress about it. We can't use it next week for the win week anyway?

OH sadness! We live 3hrs away. I'll be honest, I don't know how my Mama did it being away from us & the grandkids. Back then, we didn't even have video calls just telephone calls.

My oldest daughter and her family used to live a mile and a half up the street from us. I was over to their house two or three times a week. I admit it was very difficult when they moved out of state!

That would be hard.

Same with my youngest & tbh, it might be better for her if she didn't have any. She has some emotional issues & is stable but all those hormones would wreck havoc on her. To add stress of kids in would not be helpful either.

Beautifully Unexpected by Lily Morton

Qualification: Standalone
Read: 4/8/22
Rating: ★★★★★
I don't know why it always surprises me at this point but I can't believe how happy and entertained I am while reading a Lily Morton book. This one was no exception. The way Laurie and Magnus meet...priceless. I absolutely loved that they were in their late 40's and early 50's and showed no signs of slowing libidos. Their started as a solid friendship that grew to so much more and it was a beautiful thing to witness. Loved, loved!!

Quentin Heart, Vampire Bounty Hunter by Amber Kell
158 pgs
Qualification: Standalone
3.5 stars
This was action packed with so many things going on in a relatively short novella! I actually really like Jaks even if he was a little high handed; Quentin was great if insanely over powered. There a lot of good side characters I hope we see more of as the end of the book indicated there will be a sequel which I will definitely read. There were a few plot points that weren’t resolved in this book that I would like to see played out. I think this may have been even better if it were a little more fleshed out.

Book: For Love of Celia
Author: Elisabeth Kidd
Pages: 154
Read: 4/8/22
Rating: ***
How it fits: it is a standalone
Review: I don't usually like books where misunderstandings and possible love triangles are the plot devices. But the author did a great job of explaining the causes for the uncertainty and caution by the main characters. I think I'll look for other books by this author and see if those books are just as good.

Review: OH. MY GOD!!!
This book was so good. It was also so very emotional. There were parts that you knew were coming that kept you in the moment but on edge as well.

Man, when he found out, which anybody who read the blurb saw coming. I Bawled! I felt so sorry for how broken he was.

Even Big Tag said so ...
Ian Taggart's eyes narrowed as he looked at her. His wife had joined him, but it looked like the twins had been put down for a nap. "You broke the pie maker."
Charlotte Taggart slapped at her husband's muscular arm. "Ian. Tact, please." Baby, I don't have any of that," he admitted." She broke the dude who makes the pies. She's got to fix him."
Thank God Lexi Blake breaks up all the hard stiff by giving us Big Tag! He gives us all the snark & all the laughs!
Oh, I think she came here to try to sleep with your man, Jones,” Big Tag said. “Stop,” Jake nagged. “Come on. Tell me you don’t want to see what happens when her inner redneck makes an appearance. Ain’t no redneck like a Georgia redneck. Her accent’s already gotten deeper. Look at the way her hands have that slight shake to them. She’s thinking about killing Miss New York,” Taggart explained. “I’m going to lay a hundred on Georgia there.”
I’m not blind. Daddy sees everything. Including how you look at that Tristan kid. Stay away from him.” “Ian, she’s eight weeks old,” Serena pointed out. “Tristan recently turned one. I hardly think they’re planning to date.” “Yeah, well, it’s never too early to start. I know what your boy’s going to think. He’s going to think Mom didn’t have to pick, why should I, and then suddenly my sweet baby girls are in some weirdo relationship where they have to worship the boy.” Jake flipped him off but smiled down at Kenzie.
