Soul Taken by Patricia BriggsHmm, it's #13 (urban fantasy with a missing person & murders) and it's showing. It was a tedious slog at the beginning and the ending (last 25%) redeemed the story so it's a 3☆, maybe 3.5 ☆, for me.

The Cutting Room
by Louise WelshNot a mystery although there is a murder. It really seems to be a novel about the corrupting influence of pornography, with the added prize of several graphic scenes of gay sex. Actually starts out OK but goes downhill fairly quickly. Not recommended.
I listened to Murder in Chianti,
hoping for a series I loved as much as Bruno, Chief of Police. But it was not to be. This was just a three star book for me. My review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Funny how perceptions differ. At the time I read it, about 12 years ago, I thought this was one of the best suspense novels I'd ever read. The empathy of the main character as he tries to solve the mystery drew me in and kept me reading.

Now starting RAZORBLADE TEARS by S.A. Cosby, a stand alone mystery/thriller from 2021 that won the Anthony, Barry, Macavity, and ITW Awards as Best Novel. It was also shortlisted for the Edgar Award and the U.K. Gold and Steel Dagger Awards.I read Cosby's previous novel, BLACKTOP WASTELAND, earlier this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. I certainly hope this follow-up novel keeps the good times rolling.

I just listened to Desert Star
. Wondering if this is the last Harry Bosch. My four star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is a GR 2022 nominee for the history & biography category.
River of the Gods: Genius, Courage, and Betrayal in the Search for the Source of the NileIt was a good choice, well-written. I believe that readers with a strong interest in African exploration and its mid-19th century history would find this to be a more than satisfactory read. For me, it was a solid 3.5 ☆.

I am currently loving my book, The Orphanage, but once again I forgot about my real-world book group so I have to switch to Pachinko for a few days. Arrghgh!

I had a typo in the link on my previous post of this one.Rook is a fictionalised account by Stephen G. Eoannou of ex-cons who teamed up to become an odd pair of "badfellows" and ended up on the FBI's most-wanted list.
3.5★ My review of Rook
The Collected Stories of Katherine Anne Porter won the 1966 Pulitzer Prize for fiction. I recently read one of those stories, Flowering Judas, which is also the title story of a later collection. It takes place in the early 1920s in revolutionary Mexico. I can see why it made an impression in 1965.
My review of the story Flowering Judas
