I finished reading No Country for Old Men this morning, and I've moved baking day from Thursday to today so that I can watch the film and not feel guilty. I am very much looking forward to the group read discussion of this novel. So good!!

I saw the movie years ago and loved it. I've also read the three books of Cormac McCarthy's The Border Trilogy: All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing, Cities of the Plain, but I haven't yet read No Country for Old Men.

I've been considering adding it to this month's list, and I think you've tipped the balance, Nancy!

PattyMacDotComma | 928 comments The Partisan has everything: hot war, cold war, spies, assassins, history, and real people who fight, love, and care. It's hard to believe it's Patrick Worrall's debut novel. A great story about a dark time in Europe.

My favorite McCarthy novel so far is Blood Meridian, but I enjoy his work in general. My birthday wasn't that long ago and with gift certificate, I bought all of the McCarthy books I haven't yet read. His two new books coming out this fall I'd already preordered. He is a truly gifted writer.

An homage to the classic locked-room mysteries of the 1930's. Big fun, I liked it a lot. Mead didn't cheat but you won't figure it out. I think this is Mead's first book -- hope there are more coming. 4 stars.
