Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Iain, how do you have the audiobook for Color of Magic? It's not in my library or on Audible/Amazon. =P

ETA: Most of the books are not at my library for audiobook. Since I'm fililng my reading time with LMS and a few other books, I doubt I'll make time to read Discworld anytime soon.

This Discworld thing was me mentioning reading them this year... so there's no thread... I was vaguely considering an appreciation thread... since I didn't know a bunch of people wanted to start from the beginning with me... everyone I know is at different points in the series...

It definitely deserves a thread, tho...

Some people need to read the first book, then I can join for book 2+ (Light Fantastic)...

I think Audible pulled a bunch of the audiobooks because they're re-recording everything for the 50th anniversary: https://www.terrypratchettbooks.com/d...

But I started collecting them a couple years ago... and the final dozen are available on Hoopla, when I get that far... 25+ still seems to be available on Audible...

Any I didn't get, I can always get in "alternative ways" we discussed before... ripped from old CDs...

message 804: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments I sorta want to do it, but I've already signed up for several lengthy series. If we plan to do this later in the year, I may be more interested. Timing is off for me. I'm also trying to get back out hiking and that should start up in a few weeks. I'm waiting for slightly warmer weather.

Physically out of shape, iffy lungs and etc. I'm going to go back to national parks. Be best if I go with less chance of ice. Heh

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Nirkatze, you should pick an anime pic you like and use it as your profile pic. =D

@Nirkatze: you just need to download some images to your phone or desktop, and then try uploading from your profile... relatively easy... I've done it a few times over the years... also used profile as an image repository for linking in posts... but that's clunky...

The more stuff I turn into BRs, the more cluttered my schedule becomes... Choko is evil like that ;)

Not sure how much time I'll have for Discworld in February, but for now I have the advantage of being 1 book ahead?... like I said, it's a vague 2022 plan for me, until others make it more concrete, I guess...

message 808: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments We can wait until a bit later in the year for Discworld, no problem:-) :-)

Narilka | 5691 comments If you all do Discworld, I'll hop in and out for my favorites and for ones I haven't read yet.

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments NOW V.2 "The… scent… of a human… Oh… I… don’t have a nose.”

Death Knight Royan looked around for a bit, then slowly left to search a different area. Even after the Death Knight left, the sound of its horse’s hoof beats could be heard for some time.

“Whew.”

Haha! It is so... unexpected from time to time, I just burst out laughing B-) B-)

message 811: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments LOL You're in Vol2 of LMS?

message 812: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Soo, yes! And this is another part that had me laughing, when the kids got their parents addicted to the game:

The following was the conversation that transpired between Romuna and her parents.

“Bastard Swords deal more damage than Long Swords… Why is that?”

“Because it’s a two-handed sword. It’s big and heavy, so you can’t swing it as fast.”

“So you mean instead of several small hits, it’s one strong hit?”

“Yep.”

“That’s the kind of weapon I want… But the Bastard Sword costs over 10 gold from the shop…”

“Should I buy one for you?”

“Well… I’ll only say this now… But how much do you think we went through raising you? When you were just a baby, we provided you the best food and covered you in the best clothes. Since we care so much about you, we don’t really want to force you to…”

Hahaha!

I'm starting to try and track all the things I've agreed to... it's probably going to leave Choko perpetually catching up... gotta get my vengeance

:D

Also broke out my old speedup app, so I can listen to books at 2.5x speed that aren't stored on Hoopla/Audible... can only do that at home, tho, since it's a mega battery drain...

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments @Soo and Brian... Agincourt, Ch. 1... Sir Martin, the priest, has to die a slow and painful death!!!! I already hate him with passion! And I hope Hook kills him!

message 821: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Choko, didn't you want a break from dark stories? XD

LOL - Agincourt will not be a break from dark stories. Yah, Sir Martin needs to die. You'll be surprised by how that happens.

message 822: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Friends, take a look at this book: The Unusual Second Life of Thomas Weaver

Books 1-12 are on Audible Plus. It's a time travel series. Shall we try it? =D

I'm currently swimming around Audible Plus and noting stuff down for Nirkatze. Hahahaah

Man, I've added 4 audiobooks and have tabs open for several others to look at. XD

Brian | 1681 comments Sir Martin is the worst!!!!! One of the worst characters ever. I want him dead. Lol

message 826: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments We are united against Martin! What a douchebag! He's like all the things that's NOT ok with being a religious figure.

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments The Unusual Second Life of Thomas Weaver (Middle Falls Time Travel, #1) by Shawn Inmon

Ya'll I'm serious about wanting to read this time travel series. Books 1-12 are on Audible Plus.

Yes? No? Maybe?

message 829: by Brian (new)

Brian | 1681 comments Way too many books !! These BR paces are killing me. Lol

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments LMS Vol19.4:

Quote - A majestic undead lord of darkness and despair using this tactic cannot be found. He adapted to the environment in accordance to Weed’s Save Your Neck Survival Guide.

😂🤣😂🤣

message 832: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Legend (Four Horsemen Tales #1) by Christopher Woods is on Audible Plus. Good military SF. It's part of a series, but you don't have to read the other books. Looks to be written by different authors and have different narrators.

Action, humor, cool aliens and just enough descriptions to give you an idea of people/aliens/tech.

message 833: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Haha! Save your neck survival guide! So totally him!!!

You are way ahead of me, do you know if the shaman girl he was hunting with for a while and she had to have a life-saving surgery, do you know if they ever meet again?

message 834: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments The Sum of all Men! I thought I would have to read it by myself... Yay!

I can do the Unusual life of Thomas Weaver too:)

Anything Mercedes Lackey...

Hmmm, I am willing to check out The Orson Scott series too, not a priority though...

Always up for Vorkosigan... What am I doing, I am up for any of these...

message 835: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Agincourt, Ch 3... - Finally Hook actually listened to that voice in his head! About time! So glad he killed that prick, even though I still need him to gather enough strength, experience and believe in himself to take care of Sir Martin!

message 836: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Choko, Da'in comes back later. =D

Nirkatze asked for Audible Plus audiobook book recommendations. That was the list I put together after I searched the Plus catalog to see what's on there. It's a bit of a dig to see what's included or not.

I have a window with a bunch of tabs open for me to see if I want to add them to my current reading pile or wait. XD

Stuff for me to check out that I forgot was on Audible Plur or has been added. lol

I read Agincourt in a day. It was a really easy story to take in! May be one of my favs by Cornwall.

message 837: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Got it! I really should take advantage of the Audible Plus features... I haven't yet. I barely take advantage of the Kindle Plus... I just seem to be thinking the way I used to think about physical books and I have to get over that .. I like to know I own them, so I can get to them whenever I choose... But I realize this is much more an affection than a necessity...

message 838: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments We can put the books we like on the To Buy list. With Audible, I'm a mostly buy on sale now. I use the credits for favs or bundle packs.

message 839: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Agincourt... Ch. 3... We as humans are so good at finding ways to hurt, mame, rape and kill each other, aren't we .. I am still so grateful to be born in this day and time in history... We have a long way to go, but we have come quite far nonetheless...

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments Soo, I'm totally down for the time travel series!!

message 841: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Agincourt, Ch 5. .. Sir John, despite being exactly what he is, is a great character! I am halfway in love with him:)

G-d made the French too, but he realized it was a mistake and this is why he sent the English army to deal with them!!! Haha! So horribly bigoted, so totally wrong, but you can totally see Sir John and his contemporaries saying something like that...

message 842: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Choko: Personal prejudices, for sure. XD

Emily, YAY~ Let's do it! When do you want to make time?

I love that we have so many cool buddy reads going on now and totally don't want us all to burn out from being chat-happy. lol

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I will join you. Tomorrow then:)

message 845: by Choko (new) - rated it 4 stars

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Agincourt, up to Ch 10... Man, there is no mercy on either side, and now Henry V (view spoiler)

I do love the author's knowledge of the life of the soldiers during those days... And his understanding of what drove regular folks and nobles to keep on fighting no matter what... I know he is meticulous with his history, so I expect nothing but realistic portrait of that time and I am not disappointed

message 846: by Julian (new)

Julian | 759 comments So question for those whom have done rereads. How do I set a book that I've already read to reading again without it messing up my goodreads reading history?

Narilka | 5691 comments Just set it to Currently Reading. It will automatically remember your previously entered reading dates.

message 848: by Julian (new)

Julian | 759 comments Oh well that's much easier than I expected of goodreads lol.

message 849: by Soo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments You can edit the reading dates, add, delete, etc from your book review.

If you leave the date blank, the book will be noted as read but without a reading start & finished dates.

Easiest way to mark a re-read is to post the book as Currently Reading and it will automatically generate the start date.
