I'm reading Cemetery Lake which I am enjoying, but is obviously an American "translation" as they call it a cell phone. Which is not done in the Antipodes, but apparently the language difference is unfathomable ;)

I finished The Mystery of Mrs. Christie for the toppler and my face-to-face book club. It was a quick read and I enjoyed it.

I'm currently reading A Perilous Undertaking for the monthly challenge and I'm really enjoying it. I love the snarky banter. There is quite a bit of humor in it. It doesn't fit the monthly theme because it's not listed as such, but I think I've laughed more at this book than I did the one that I actually read for the humor theme.

Apeirogon, by award-winning Irish writer Colum McCann, is the remarkable and moving true story of two fathers, former enemies, working for peace. One is Israeli, one Palestinian. Both lost young daughters in the conflict. It is unbelievably beautifully done.

Where Serpents Sleep is number 4 in the engaging Sebastian St. Cyr historical mystery series. London 1812. Lord Devlin is teamed up with the daughter of Lord Jarvis, his nemesis. Full of action, history and humour.

Ashley Audrain's psychological thriller, The Push, caused a lot of stir and I wondered why. I knew there was a worn-out mother with young children, but I expected something more.

A new favourite Aussie thriller for my bookshelf! If you need more than my enthusiasm, Lee Child called Michael Trant's latest novel, Wild Dogs "Tough, fast and hard – my kind of book." It is also a completely authentic, Aussie outback story. I'm with Lee on this one.

I couldn't resist sharing some of the verse and illustrations after enjoying a re-read of Madeline, the much-loved picture book and poem from 1939 by Ludwig Bemelmans. I can't recite all of it anymore, but I'm surprised how much I remember.

Just finished Hook, Line, and Sinker . Meh. I loved the characters and the storyline, but the thoughts and themes were very repetitive and got frustrating.

See Them Die, by Michael Fowler, introduces forensic psychologist Dr. Hamlet Mottrell, who is lying in a hospital bed with bandaged wrists, accused of slaughtering his family. Not a bad start for a new psychological mystery series

I recently read Take It Back, the first of Kia Abdullah's popular new mystery series. Interesting premise: In London, a white, disabled girl accuses 4 Muslim boys of rape. Her lawyer is a beautiful, smart Muslim woman. Dilemma?

What a genre-busting delight The Nancys is! NZ author R.W.R. McDonald's debut is a funny, amateur-sleuth mystery with bright, young Tippy Chan and her over-the-top gay uncle and his beau.

I am currently reading People of the Book for my yearly challenge and The Forbidden Door for a buddy read with Jannene and Dom.

I just gave up on After Happily Ever After at 42%. The MC was a doormat and I didn't like the decisions she was making. I didn't really care for her at all, so I wasn't invested in her story. By the time I gave up she was still on the downside and hadn't yet started her personal growth that I expect will happen at some point.

Wolf Girl is a shy little girl who pretends to be a brave, fierce wolf. The illustrations by author Jo Loring-Fisher are just beautiful.

Also just started the audiobook of The Diamond Eye by the author of the The Alice Network. It is about a female sniper in WWII.

I have very much been mood reading this year so my selections are all over the place.

I have Girl in Ice on my tbr? How is it?
I had trouble staying with The Diamond Eye and had to put it down till I’m more in the mood. I like the author and really enjoyed The Alice Network.

I loved The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes about a man whose memory is as fallible as everyone's. Wonderful story with an ending that has generated a lot of discussion since it won the Booker Prize in 2011.

I read The Sense of an Ending several years ago and apparently, I really liked it (I gave it 5★ too). Unfortunately I didn't write a review and now I cant remember it. I'm going to have to reread it. Hope I enjoy it the second time as much as the first.

Parts are really interesting, but I think the character development was a little weak. However, I will say the pace is one where you could read it pretty quickly. It is a good suspense novel.

I think The Strange Adventures of H, a young girl, by Sarah Burton could be an entertaining introduction to historical fiction about 17th century London. It covers the Plague, the Great Fire, and bawdy houses.
