Everybody deserves A Little Bit of Respect, and this delightful children's picture book from Claire Alexander shows even grown-ups how easy it is to slip up (and embarrass ourselves 😊 ).
5★ My review of A Little Bit of Respect with several small examples of the unique illustrations

The Spy and the Traitor: The Greatest Espionage Story of the Cold War by Ben MacintyreSo this was my first but not my last book by Ben Macintyre. It's an easy recommendation for fans of espionage books (both fiction and nonfiction) and for those interested in the Cold War.

The Paris Apartment by Lucy FoleyClearly, Foley plotted a great deal to write this mystery. It fell a bit short but was very entertaining.

I finished The Overlook Murder
by Patrick Kelly.My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I only just missed Nikola Tesla's birthday (July 9) when I read the children's bio by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. It's another in the great Little People BIG DREAMS series about historic figures.
4★ My review of Nikola Tesla with several illustrations
Leavers, Schoolies, Spring Break - whatever you call it when kids on the brink of adulthood take off on their own - parents hope for the best. Guess what? Town destination refused entry, so where to go? The Brink, Brink Island, an isolated island off the coast of Western Australia, of course. Western Australian author Holden Sheppard understands this place and these kids.
4★My review of The Brink
In the Market for Murder by T.E. Kinsey finds amateur sleuths Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Armstrong, investigating why a local farmer died suddenly in the pub where they were lunching. Hardly the atmosphere they moved to the country for!
3.5~4★ My review of In the Market for Murder

Another mystery lite from the prolific Georgette Heyer -

I second that, Melissa!
Upgrade by Blake CrouchI hadn't originally intended to read this since it's off of the beaten track for me. But I ended up doing so because I had I received an invitation from the publisher. This was very good, and I need to prioritize more sci-fi thrillers.

I love it when a favourite author is convinced to continue a story. Lying Beside You is celebrated Aussie mystery writer Michael Robotham's excellent addition to the Cyrus Haven (& Evie Cormac) series. But you can pick it up and enjoy the suspense and action straight away, because Robotham will fill you in.
5★ My review of Lying Beside You
Here is my 4 star review of the final book in the core Black Flagged series: Vindicta
by Steven Konkolyhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Melissa wrote: "@Kristie, I have read book woman, very good. I'm really enjoying it even though it can be a little difficult to read in parts. If the second half is as strong as the first half, I'll have to pick up book two as well. I look forward to seeing what you think of it.
Its been awhile since I read book woman but I just remember I enjoyed it and learned a lot of history. I'll let you know what I thought of the sequel for sure :)
Chinese-born Qian Julie Wang was only five when she was warned she had to behave, be quiet and blend in - or they'd be deported. As she writes in Beautiful Country: A Memoir, it was hard for her to understand why her professor parents became menial workers.
3.5★ My review of Beautiful Country
Currently reading The Rumor... going through all Elin Hilderbrand lately after discovering that I really enjoy her stories, especially reading them in summer. This is only my fourth of hers so far so I have a ways to go. :) Also just finished re-reading The Help

Here is my 4 star review of A Simple Choice
by David Pepper.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This political thriller has plenty of suspense, some action, lots of investigation, and an intensity that kept me fully engaged throughout the novel.
An Artist's Eyes
by Frances Tosdevin shows, through Clémence Monnet's beautifully clever illustrations, that all artists (and we) see things differently. Gorgeous!

Here is my 4 star review of Quarter to Midnight

Karen Rose brings suspense, danger, action, intense moments, and romance to her first book in the New Orleans romantic suspense series. Overall, this briskly paced novel was engaging and atmospheric with diverse characterization.
