After a month on holidays from work, I am back at work this week, so am keeping my reading light and whimsical while I adjust to the daily slog again.

Reading A Song of Comfortable Chairs by Alexander McCall Smith for a wind-down between finishing work and starting to think about dinner!

my current audio book is The Forever Girl and I have The Bertie Project lined up as my next listen.
my bedtime read is #1 of his new series, The Perfect Passion Company, Cook For Me
and my print book is a library borrow, The Exquisite Art of Getting Even, after which I'll be reading The Enigma of Garlic

Well, the book I’m currently reading is definitely an Aussie book by an Aussie author. ‘Deception Bay’ by JP Powell. Research-based WWII historical fiction set in Brisbane. I’ve just started, but the blurb promises a murder investigation, codebreakers, and corrupt police.

Currently listening to Murder By Natural Causes by Helen Erichsen: about halfway through and I can see this will be a five-star read. Phrynne, the audio is still available for request on NetGalley....

I've just read a translation of the Chinese epic (5th Century AD) The Journey To The West about the monk Sangzan's journey to the Himalayas to bring the Buddhist sutras back to China. Sangzan has three junior monks helping him--the infamous Monkey ('Great Sage Equaling Heaven') who is always fighting and breaking things, Pig and Sand Raker. The story is hilarious in places with other sections of haiku-like natural description. It takes place on multiple levels. Interestingly dragons are seen as vortices of life force, not greedy monster squatting on heaps of gold. It's a challenging read but very rewarding and gives some insight into Chinese culture and tradition in these times of tension in South East Asia.

Yesterday I picked up Echo Lake by Joan Sauers



Thoroughly enjoying it! Heads up @Brenda, Phrynne, Carolyn, Marianne and… all who love a cosy mystery with a bit of thriller thrown in!
This is set in the Southern Highlands of NSW so will appeal to anyone familiar with those quaint country towns such as Berrima and Bowral 😉😃
I must confess to this one jumping the tbr queue after reading a rather compelling review by fellow reviewers Craig / Phil!

for the new book club I've joined (who are all my age) No One Is Talking About This, mercifully short or it would be a DNF, looking like a 1★, might appeal to millennials, wondering how many of this club will actually finish it;
Twenty-Seven Minutes, filled with toxic males and downtrodden or naive or obsessed females, and dragging far too long;
thank goodness for my audio, a reread of What You Are Looking For Is in the Library, which is delightful.
