PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments Make Me Disappear by Jessica Payne is a cat and mouse story where the mouse would like to disappear, but there seems to be more than one cat. Who's the enemy?

Carolyn | 9836 comments I wasn't sure what to expect in Maureen Fry and the Angel of the North (Harold Fry #3) by Rachel Joyce Maureen Fry and the Angel of the North by Rachel Joyce but it turned out to be a good way to pull the first two books together and give us Maureen's story as she takes her own journey to understanding and forgiveness.

A dark contemporary retelling of a beloved classic. Enjoyed this unusual take, though I hated one scene.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments I've been reading some James Joyce stories and finding them easy to read, entertaining and thought-provoking. You don't need to be some kind of literary critic to enjoy them, although goodness knows they have been extensively studied (not by me 😊).

Araby is about a tongue-tied young boy's crush on his friend's sister. Delightful and bittersweet.
Araby by James Joyce 5★ My review of Araby

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments Another, longer James Joyce story is The Dead which takes place during Christmas/New Year's festivities in the early 1900s. Thought-provoking ending.
