What Have You Read - 2022

Taylor, I completely agree!
Yesterday, I finished listening to Gregg Hurwitz's The Crime Writer. (Not horror, but a fun mystery.)

I shockingly already got this from the library, and it was as good as the previous two.

I still need to read the second one, which I own, and then I'll be on to the last. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed them, Alan.
I finished Michaelbrent Collings' latest: Future Tense: Tales of Apocalyptic Vision and it was a great story collection.

This book was phenomenal! The authors included are like a who's who of dark fiction."
@Char, I read Lullabies for Suffering: Tales of Addiction Horror last year, I don't know if the two belong to the same series since they're both from the same editor and although I enjoyed reading it, I thought the stories were too limited in the scope of addictions as they almost all were about drug addiction (I think two stories weren't). Which is fine too, but I would have prefered if more types of addiction were adressed. What types of addiction does this book contain? I think I would want to read if it isn't only about drugs or medication, maybe more psychological or behavioral addictions.

Mostly drug and alcohol addiction stories but there were two that stood out that were not substance abuse tales. I won't say what those addictions were, though. ;)
While I enjoyed all three books, there was something about this one that really spoke to me-this is my favorite of the three.
Also, I've been friends with that author for a long time, since I reviewed his first book, maybe in ...2011? I might not be the most unbiased person in the world, but I like to think I know good storytelling, and this volume definitely had that.
Hope this helped!

Thank you, it did help a lot! If you say you read all three and this is your favorite, I'll just have to give it a try 😄

The science fiction comic epic at its finest. While I am still concerned about accidentally deleting my library, the actual reading via the ComiXology smartphone app went quite comfortable and easy.

Fungi from Yuggoth: An Annotated Edition by H.P. Lovecraft
Wonderful edition of this minor classic of weird verse. Includes illustrations, facsimiles of the original handwritten manuscripts, a 50-page historical essay, and copious endnotes.

Stages of Fear
Spooky stories by Reggie Oliver set in the theater world, which the author obviously knows well. I loved all the details of theater life but the stories themselves struck me as underpowered and not terribly memorable.

Falling Angel
This was a four-star read all the way for me until I reached the incredible ending, which pushed it to five. WOW.

i really, really enjoyed this one! stayed up reading until almost 2 in the morning 'cause i wanted to know what the hell was going on, lol.

Aww, that's kind of a bummer. Reggie is one of those authors that I want to try but never get around to it.

Annoying characters took me right out of the story.
