I nominate Anchor Between Worlds by Britany Denhart. Awesome epic fantasy by a Christian author. Plus, I am pretty sure she would provide a free BookBub link for a club read. Here is what I wrote for my review:

This may just be my favorite epic fantasy ever! Amazing world-building, the Dehnerts win the award for the most realistic and convincing mythical creatures! The daeor are so well-conceived and described, their powers extremely creative, and their motivations so consistent, I just loved reading about them. Skaeoth was my favorite character, even though "arguing with a daeor was like arguing with a rock." Kurdra's controlled strength combined with her visions made her an intriguing heroine. Because of the visions and flashbacks, it took me a couple of chapters to understand the main storyline, but then I was hooked! Though I could guess some of the twists, I read the book in almost one sitting because I couldn't wait to see how it all worked out. The mystery of Kurdra's past brought all the missing pieces together. The heart-pounding battle scenes crackled with energy, using all the senses to immerse the reader in the fight. There was one story element I would have liked more of, and it is hinted at in the epilogue, so I really hope there will be more to this series! No explicit language or sex at all. Highly recommended for YA and up!

Yes, that's the general idea! Although secular fantasy will work as well, as long as it doesn't have themes that clash with Christian doctrines.

Gracie, I unexpectedly started reading Mark of the Raven the other day because my sisters were really wanting a read-aloud of it, so would you like to join in right now or in the next few days? I can make the buddy read thread if you're ready!

yeah, like Ascendance Series. Percy Jackson kinda has the theme of other gods and such which is kinda...yeah.

Seeing how this group has read both Tolkien and C.S Lewis, I would like to nominate Phantastes by George MacDonald, who was an inspiration in particular to Lewis.

George MacDonald is an author I really need to read more of! I did also hear about how he influenced Tolkien and Lewis, so I'm quite curious what his works are like. I'll second your nomination.

I also recommend the Princess and the Goblin and the Princess and Curdie. I can see why they were influential to C. S. Lewis and Tolkien (who wrote about similar goblins).

I recall Tolkien mentioning Curdie in his letters. Perhaps something he read to his children?
