Off topic: I like that song, Leticia! Thanks for sharing. And the modern dance in the video is a beautiful thing.

Off topic: It's a song about a woman who meets a French guy, she doesn't understand anything he says but she likes to be with him even though.
DivaDiane wrote: "Jamie, do you mind if I steal your checklist? That’s brilliant!"Sorry I missed that Diane; I'm assuming you meant for me. By all means it's free for use. I just love to have a pretty checklist!
I'm in too!!! Here are my plans...I'm pretty sure I'm doing this right. 😅Bingo (full published series completed):
☐A1 Trilogy: Jade City, need to read Jade War and Jade Legacy
✅ B1 Science Fiction: The Exiled Fleet
☐C1 Fresh Off the Press: Locklands
☐A2 ★★★★★ First Book: Twelve Kings in Sharakhai and I need to read A Wasteland of My God's Own Making, When Jackals Storm the Walls, and A Desert Torn Asunder (really trying to finishing this series up in 2022 so here I go setting an unreasonable goal but let's see how I do!)
☐B2 Favorite Author: The Galaxy, and the Ground Within
☐C2 Fantasy: Into the Riverlands
☐A3 BIPOC Author: Bloodmarked
☐B3 Duology: The Fall
☐C3 Binge Read: might be Gentlemen Bastards series by Scott Lynch but there are 4 books (1 of which isn't out yet)...so maybe I will rethink this selection later in the year.
My Emojis!:

Bonuses: from The Exiled Fleet👩🔬 🐱👤
Series Completed in 2022: 1
I've finished the Echoes of the Fall series. I can use it for the Binge-read or the Trilogy card, dependent on what else I'll read this year.So far it gives me following emojis:
1) Non-human land creature/animal on the cover or in the title: 🐯 (2022 is the year of the water tiger) The Tiger and the Wolf
4) Wings/flying creature/cloud on the cover or in title: 🐝 The Hyena and the Hawk
7) Book or cover features an aristocrat/royalty/emperor/empress: 👸🤴 The Bear and the Serpent
I will probably exchange the first one, if I find something fitting, to qualify for the sequel-sub-challenge.
Hooray Gabi!I finished the Wayward Children series (with Where the Drowned Girls Go), one of only two series I was current on going into the year, so it's almost all uphill from here. I used it for Fresh Off the Press, and to obtain 🌊 (water/liquid on the cover or in the title).
Yay, I'm done with Rhythm of War, from Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive. That's one series caught up. Now on to all the rest. :)Actually once I take a break for a few quick crime novels I may finish the Revelation Space series, by Alastair Reynolds, since I managed to locate Redemption Ark and Absolution Gap in my rather jumbled shelves..
This is my plan so far (need several more series to fill in my card) - I've combined last year's categories I didn't finish, or types I read often, with this year's, plus added one, since I discovered the half-series books for Skyward, so thought that could fill in a space, as it's something that would motivate me to read them. New-to-you author: Shroud of Prophecy (Destiny of the Dead is coming out this year, so it depends when it's available at the library)
Debut author: The Invisible Library
Read all the extra books: Skyward
Science Fiction: Skyward (up to what's currently available)
Longer series: The Stormlight Archive
Duology:
Fresh off the press: might place The Stormlight Archive here
Fantasy/Trilogy: Attolia (first book: The Thief) - not started yet
Binge-read: Or Stormlight could go here. Or A Chorus of Dragons (first book: The Ruin of Kings)
I put Skyward in as a read-all-the-extra-books and a regular entry.... figure that's not cheating 🤞😉. If I read all the extras, I'll cross that one off; if I read 'Cytonic', I'll cross the main one off - not much of a SF reader, so it's hard to find series that fit that one. Thinking of trying out 'A Chorus of Dragons', but not sure how good it is.
* Will probably replace 'A Chorus of Dragons' with something else.
Here's my plan so far...but judging by last year I'm sure things are going to change a lot. ☐ Trilogy: The Founders Trilogy - I read the first book last year and it was amazing! The second book is already out and the third is coming in June.
☐ 5 Star First Book: The Locked Tomb Series - this is my favorite series of all time and I am going a little crazy waiting for book 3 to come out in September!
☐BIPOC author: The Inheritance Trilogy - I haven't started this yet but I'm very excited to, as The Broken Earth Trilogy was one of my favorites from last year.
☐ Science Fiction: The Janet Watson Chronicles - I haven't started this yet, and I'm not familiar with the author, so this could change. But I have been wanting to try it!
☐ Favorite Author: The Patternist Series - again, I haven't started this yet, so we will see if I read the whole series this year, but I adore Octavia Butler.
☐ Duology: The Borden Dispatches - i love the first book in this duology, and I'd really like to finally get to the sequel. (also could be first book is 5 stars)
☐ Fresh off the Press: The Rook and Rose Series - I have a lot of series that could fill this spot, but hopefully I'll get to finish this one. The books are really chunky, and I've only read the first one!
☐ Fantasy: The Wayward Children Series - I get to use this 2 years in a row, and it's an easy square! I only have to read the latest book.
☐ Binge Read: The Poppy War Series - I have so many series that can fill this spot, so this is likely to change.
If I don't change anything, I think this lineup will get me every emoji bonus. But also I'm probably going to change things up a ton, so we shall see how I can make it all work!
With Fugitive Telemetry I've finished* the Murderbot series to date. Since it's very unlikely I'll fill the board I'll hold off on deciding where to put it. It could easily fit in either SF or "book 1 was 5 stars," and possibly in "favorite author." I have my doubts another one of these will come out in 2022, but if it does, I will withdraw my entry until I read it.* rather cheaply as it was less than 200 pages in large-ish print with wide margins. ;)
I couldn't find anything on the cover to give me an emoji.
It is, indeed. I will take my 🐱👤 thanks for pointing it out. I was approaching those a little too straightforwardly, perhaps.
Can you use a graphic novel series for this challenge? If yes I finished two bingo squares.Trilogy - ✔️The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl
Binge Read - ✔️Lore Olympus: Volume One, ✔️Lore Olympus: Volume Two and all available episodes on the webtoon page.
I've read the 3 available books of the Wax&Wayne series by Sanderson. If the 4th volume will be released like scheduled this November I can use this series as "Fresh off the print" prompt. (otherwise it can go on the binge-read, fav-author, trilogy or fantasy prompt)So far I have earned following emojis:
1) Non-human land creature/animal on the cover or in the title: 🐯 (2022 is the year of the water tiger) The Tiger and the Wolf
4) Wings/flying creature/cloud on the cover or in title: 🐝 The Hyena and the Hawk
6) Book or cover features a rogue/thief/pirate/assassin: 🐱👤Shadows of Self
7) Book or cover features an aristocrat/royalty/emperor/empress: 👸🤴 The Bear and the Serpent
12) Book or cover features ruins, a mask or a statue 🗿 The Bands of Mourning
Leticia wrote: "Can you use a graphic novel series for this challenge? "Sure, if you want to, you can!
@Gaby: how did you like Wax & Wayne? I also finished the Mistborn trilogy last year and I'm thinking of maybe reading W&W this year, as well.
Eva wrote: "@Gaby: how did you like Wax & Wayne? I also finished the Mistborn trilogy last year and I'm..."
The stories themselves are not to my liking. I just can't get into heist/police stories and/or flintlock stories.
But the characters are an adorable group of nuts and the dialogue writing is Sanderson-top. So I had a lot of fun with the characters with only sometimes caring for the plot (those sometimes were when the story was about the bigger going ons in the Cosmere)
Gabi wrote: "Eva wrote: "@Gaby: how did you like Wax & Wayne? I also finished the Mistborn trilogy last year and I'm..."

That does sound pretty exciting, thank you!
@Nora: yes, I read the whole series last year and thought it was lots of fun. :-)
I'm working on this one now: Fantasy: Garth Nix's Abhorsen series
which also ticks boxes for the 2022 Read All the Books: On Cloud Nine Challenge and the Circadian Challenge for UTC 10 (Australia)
Nora wrote: "Have any of you read illuminae. Best sci-fi book ever in my opinion"I've read them! They are a lot of fun, and would be a great pick for the "binge read" square since they are quick reading.
Nora wrote: "Have any of you read illuminae. Best sci-fi book ever in my opinion"I have not, and didn't TBR-it because its classified as YA here on GR - do you think that's accurate?
I'm unsure whether I want to count the Trolloc on Robert Jordan - The Wheel of Time (2) - The Great Hunt for land animal/creature:
But I
* caught up to Seanan McGuire's Wayward Children series (Favorite Author)
* with Seanan McGuire - Where the Drowned Girls Go (🌊)
* and binge-read (✔) the Saint of Steel trilogy, which gives me
* the flame 🔥 for T. Kingfisher - Paladin's Strength
* and the healer 👩⚕️👨⚕️ for T. Kingfisher - Paladin's Hope.
I've also managed to start into the new series challenge. So far I've read all of Aquae Calicis books by Maike Claußnitzer and this checks my "Favorite author"-square.
This gives me the 🐯 because of the 🐀 in the third book, the 👩🔬👨🔬 for the fourth book, the 🌱 for the fifth book and the 🐝 because of the 🕊️ in the sixth book.
Additionally I've read
and did catch-up with the Wayward Children series. This marks my "Fresh off the press"-square as well as the 🌊.
Ohh, what an exciting series I had never heard of before! I'm definitely going to checkout Tricontium, it sounds great!
I can only recommend it. It's balm for my soul because it's although there are sometimes big developments and lives on the plate it's narrated rather quietly (with a lot of tea drinking) and there is no really evil person - most people just want to live their lives. The series really deserves more readers imho.
I'm updating my progress here! Bingo (full published series completed):
✅ A1 Trilogy: A Darker Shade of Magic, A Gathering of Shadows, and A Conjuring of Light

I have started and finished the Babel series by Josiah Bancroft starting with Senlin Ascends. I totally loved this Steampunk/air pirate adventure with great character development and writing so much that I read through all 4 books within 11 days.Again this series fits nearly the same fields as the other two I've read, so I just log them in to get my first row
Fresh off the press: The Fall of Babel - finishing book of the 4 books series
Fantasy: The Echoes of Fall, starting with The Tiger and the Wolf - 4 books
Binge Read: Wayne and Wax series starting with The Alloy of Law - 3 books

Congrats on your progress so far, Rebecca and Gabi! The sequels I've read so far were The Poison Prince (🤴) and Evershore (🌊), with all the rest being standalones, the first book in a series, or graphic novels, which I'm personally choosing not to count for this challenge (it's the only challenge I'm doing this year, so I'm choosing hard mode).
Evershore brings me up-to-date with the Skyward series, so I've got either Favorite Author or SF covered (I haven't decided yet).
Series I've recently started that I'd like to finish this year:

Since my last post I've made some further progress 😊I've read the Teixcalaan duology by Arkady Martine
&
And the second book gives me the 👸🤴 and the series fills my square for "1st Book was 5 stars".
Additionally I've read the (German) Kane trilogy by Karl Edward Wagner:
&
&
Here I claim the 🐱👤 for the third book and it fills my "Fantasy" square thus giving me a bingo column and a 🐺
And last but not least I'm making progress on my Binge-read: the Wheel of Time 😅
I'm listening to the German audiobooks and I just finished the 9th audiobook = 4th English book.
And according to my little, absolutely not nerdy Excel spreadsheet I'm still 2,1% ahead of time 🥳
I'm going to shift things around a bit: Bingo (full published series completed):
☐A1 Trilogy: Jade City, need to read Jade War and Jade Legacy
✅ B1 Science Fiction: The Exiled Fleet
☐C1 Fresh Off the Press: Locklands
☐A2 ★★★★★ First Book: first was The Nine and I'll read The Fall this year
☐B2 Favorite Author: The Galaxy, and the Ground Within
☐C2 Fantasy: Into the Riverlands
☐A3 BIPOC Author: Bloodmarked
☐B3 Duology: Silver in the Wood ✅ and Drowned Country
✅ C3 Binge Read: High Jinx which is the second book in the Cursed Luck series (should be 3 books eventually) and I read the fist book this year as well Cursed Luck

Series Completed in 2022: 2
Well I figured I would do an update since we're a quarter into the year, but I haven't made much progress! (Mostly I've just changed things around)☐ Trilogy: The Athena Club Trilogy
☐ 5 Star First Book: The Locked Tomb Series
☐BIPOC author: The Inheritance Trilogy
☐ Science Fiction: The Earthseed Duology
☐ Favorite Author: The Faeries of Dreamdark Series
☐ Duology: The Innis Lear Duology
☐ Fresh off the Press: The Founders Trilogy - I read the second book, so I'm technically caught up, but the last book comes out in a few months.
✓ Fantasy: The Wayward Children Series - My one win! I read the latest book and I can check off this box.
☐ Binge Read: The Masquerade Trilogy
And I've got two emoji bonuses:
🌊
🐱👤
OK, I've found my 5 star book (it only has six ratings between Goodreads and Amazon) and all are 5 stars and I'm cheating a bit as I purchased it as a compilation and the compilation of three books is rated as 5 stars but the individual books are rated 4.5, 5 and 4.5).Toccata System: by Kate Sheeran Swed
Lol, the 5 stars were really just meant to indicate your own personal enjoyment of the first book, CB! Any series where you thought the first book was amazing will count!
I'm gonna take it literally mostly because I don't rate many books and I'd have to go back through my series to find another one that's a 5 star (unless Rothfuss and/or Martin drop their next book this year)
Gabi wrote: "The series that are on my radar for next year are the Malazan series, the series starting with Senlin Ascends, The Witcher (will be a monthly read in another group) and the accompanying short story..."Hmm, have not set any goals or challenges this year but this caught my eye as am also working on Malazan ( currently on Memories of Ice ) and planning on The Witcher. But after looking thru the bingo card, think a Malazan book a month and then the Witcher series is all I can do. Does look like fun though so we'll see what happens as I think on it and time passes. Mantra to self: MUST not complete challenges.
John wrote: "Mantra to self: MUST not complete challenges."*snickers* good luck with that ;-)
I've also made some progress:
Duology: Lina Rather - Our Lady of Endless Stars:
Sisters of the Vast Black
Sisters of the Forsaken Stars
The latter also gives me the 🌈 for LGBT-representation
Fresh from the Press: Anne Bishop - World of the Others (Crowbones)
Which also gives me the 🐝
Then there are two sequels which essentially bring me up to date with the series but since they both have their final books coming out later this year, I'm not going to count them for my bingo (yet):
Noami Novik - The Last Graduate for the 👩🔬👨🔬
Inthisar - Khanani - The Theft of Sunlight for the 🌞
And lastly, I finally managed to finish my next WoT-book: The Dragon Reborn which gives my the 🌱 thanks to this cover:
And thanks to Myriel's Excel, I know that I am obviously behind on my WoT-read but so far, it's not hopeless (yet) :-)
Updating!Bingo (full published series completed):
✔A1 Trilogy: The Extraordinary Adventures of the Athena Club - The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter - European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman - The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl
✔B1 Science Fiction: The Illuminae Files - Illuminae - Gemina - Obsidio
✔C1 Fresh Off the Press - The Aurora Cycle - Aurora Rising - Aurora Burning - Aurora's End
✔A2 ★★★★★ First Book: I had a lot of trouble with this one, because I rarely give 5 stars to the first book in a series... But then I remembered the Wayward Children - Every Heart a Doorway was a definite five stars for me, and I just read Where the Drowned Girls Go so that one counts!
✔B2 Favorite Author: A new favourite author for me, but Becky Chambers! I read the Wayfarers this year: The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, A Closed and Common Orbit, Record of a Spaceborn Few, The Galaxy, and the Ground Within
☐C2 Fantasy:
☐A3 BIPOC Author:
☐B3 Duology:
✔C3 Binge Read: Stalking Jack the Ripper, Hunting Prince Dracula, Escaping from Houdini, Capturing the Devil
Bonus (individual books):
✔Non-human land creature/animal on the cover or in the title: The Aurora Cycle counts, right? Kal and Finian are both on the covers, and they're not human. And the Strange Case of the Alchemis's Daughter has a puma on the cover... But let's say Aurora's End for this one. 🐯
✔Water/any other liquid on the cover or in the title: Where the Drowned Girls Go is pretty obvious for this one. 🌊
✔A flower/plant on the cover or in title: The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter has vines and other plants on the cover. The other two have flowers, too. 🌱
✔Wings/flying creature/cloud on the cover or in title: I think Illuminae has clouds on the cover, right? And the Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl has a flying beetle. 🐝
✔Book or cover features a scientist/researcher/scholar: All the Stalking Jack the Ripper books have Audrey Rose on the cover, and she's all of those things. 👩🔬👨🔬
☐Book or cover features a rogue/thief/pirate/assassin: 🐱👤
☐Book or cover features an aristocrat/royalty/emperor/empress: 👸🤴
☐Book or cover features a physician/doctor/healer: 👩⚕️👨⚕️
✔Sun/moon/star(s) on cover or in title: either Gemina or Obsidio should do for this one. 🌞
✔Book has LGBTQ+ representation: Finian is bisexual and Zila is gay in the Aurora Cycle. So let's say Aurora Rising for this one. 🌈
✔Fire/flame on cover or in title: Aurora Burning 🔥
☐Book or cover features ruins, a mask or a statue 🗿
☐If you collect all 12 bonus emojis, you get a medal: 🏅
☐Earn an extra sparkle ✨ if you used only sequels for fulfilling the 12 bonuses.
☐Participants who complete both the bingo board and all 12 bonus challenges by the end of 2022 get a gold medal: 🥇 and much acclaim and applause!
I've also read Lina Rather's duology, which I'll count for SF:
(also gives me 🌈)Shadow of the Fox progress:
up next:
Soul of the Sword gives me 🐱👤 for the ninja/shinobi main character
And
for 🌞
I've finished the block for 1st Book Was 5 stars with a 5 star book (it only has six ratings between Goodreads and Amazon) and all are 5 stars and I'm cheating a bit as I purchased it as a compilation and the compilation of three books is rated as 5 stars but the individual books are rated 4.5, 5 and 4.5).Toccata System: by Kate Sheeran Swed
it was OK. Involved sentient AIs and book two was definitely better than book 1.
extra hard means I'm really trying to clear out my TBR pile, but I think I'll do Joe Abercrombie's Age of Madness series to make a column next. This is one I've been looking forward to reading, so I'll be happy
I hope you'll enjoy the Age of Madness! I've now made some progress with Susan Dennard's Witchlands series
✅
✅
and I'm reading
right now, which will give me another square.
Finished my 4th square The Emperor's Wolves and Sword and Shadow by Michelle Sagara which was pretty goodPrior completions
1st Book Was 5 stars: Toccata System - The Complete Trilogy = 3 books and a short story
Fantasy: Garth Nix's Abhorsen series = 4 books
Science Fiction: Ann Leckie's Imperial Radch Series = 3 books, but I'd already read the first one
Starting on
Favorite Author: Joe Abercrombie's The Age of Madness series = 3 books
and one Bonus Challenge
6) Book or cover features a rogue/thief/pirate/assassin: 🐱👤
Sword and Shadow which is book 2 in the series has an assassin / executioner as the main character
Looks like my series for Science Fiction will be either Ben Bova's Grand Tour series or Iain M. Banks's Culture series. I am working my way through both this year, though I am having to bounce between the library's collection, youtube, and my own books and I think there are still a couple in both series I have not located yet.My fantasy series, for that square, will probably be the Conan the Barbarian series, by L. Sprague de Camp. My Binge Read series is still probably the Revelation Space trilogy, by Alastair Reynolds.
Planning too far ahead this year has not been working, so I have no idea what I'll actually finish for the other prompts yet.
