Good morning everybody~Its the morning of 18 Dec for me already so I'll get started now.
I'm currently reading The Bear and the Nightingale & will be starting on A Spindle Splintered & Parable of the Sower next.
I'm not quite sure what to do but I suppose I will go ahead & fill in the planning tab in our group spreadsheet first and see how it goes?
Happy reading everybody~
Morning here as well - I am currently reading a book set in Antarctica so that is an unusual one that I can fill in. My books are pretty much set as I am trying to complete several challenges before the end of the year.Happy reading everyone!
Good morning foxes! 🦊I am currently reading Once Broken Faith which has urban-fantasy as a top shelf, but plenty others too. I am finished my challenges so I'm just free reading now, but I'll add few of my options to the spreadsheet once I've walked the dog.
Morning everyone. I managed a bit of reading this morning and am heading out for the day so not sure how much I will get done. I'm mainly free reading but have a few library check outs I want to get through. I normally use the app so shelves isn't something I'm familiar with. I'll have to investigate later.
Good morning, team 😊 Like Sue, my books for the upcoming weeks are also pretty much set to try to finish the Aty challenge. I am currently reading Possessing the Secret of Joy, and listening to advent book Adventsstjernen, as well as some other lingering.
Happy reading!
Edited to add link to spreadsheet, can't see the first post on my phone: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Morning, all. So pleased to be on Team Fox. I'm in a Rivers of London game where I play a talking fox!
My start points are:
Page 64 of 293 of Inspector Specter - in the spreadsheet, with lots of shelf options (assuming I understand the rules correctly, and its GR shelf names, not my own).
Page 598 of 1,303 of Les Misérables. I'm not going to bother with shelves for it unless it looks like I might actually finish it, but I will include it in my page count each day.
My immediate short term list after Inspector Specter is:
A Mew Beginning, Kathi Daley
A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens
CATastrophe in the Making, Kathi Daley
Murder on a Winter's Night, Cecily Gayford (ed)
I've put all four in the spreadsheet as well. Of these, the choices are rather limited for the last two, as they were both published in the last couple of months, and so aren't shelved by a lot of people, yet.

Hi team. It is morning here so I'm oficially starting the readathon. Here's the books I have started:Moon Over Soho by Ben Aaronovitch I am listening to this one on audiobook. It is also a book I own,
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I own this book. I am reading it physically. I don't think I will be able to finish during this week, but I hope to read 150 pages a day, so I can finish by the end of the year. It can still count towards pages read.
Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones A book I own.
Death Sentence by Alexander Gordon Smith. I am reading it on Kindle
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. Another book I own.
All those books are books I have started but have only read 50-100 pages of, so they will count for the challenge.
Remember it's not what you would shelve the book as but what the top used shelves are. So most books will match the shelves like "library" or "tbr" but not many will match "northern-hemisphere" as that isn't a very common shelf. eg. Parable of the Sower has lots of matching shelves on the first page but "united-states" isn't one of them: https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve...
Thanks for that clarification, Ellie. She's correct... it's not how you would shelve them, but how all of the users of GR have already shelved them.
I've finished Inspector Specter and put it in for cozy-mystery for now.
I've also added a column for putting in the names of the books used for the prompt once it's ticked off, as it seemed odd not to have one.

Trish, you can just add it to the Completion sheet.
I have also just finished a book, No Friend but the Mountains: Writing from Manus Prison, and have coded it as Memoir. We're off to a flying start!
Ira wrote: "I just finished reading Death Sentence by Alexander Gordon Smith"Great Ira, do you know how to add it to the Spreadsheet?
Yes. I just have no idea where to add it.Top shelves on the first shelves page are to-read, currently-reading, young-adult, horror, favorites, science-fiction, series, own, fiction. What do we need?
Ira wrote: "Yes. I just have no idea where to add it.Top shelves on the first shelves page are to-read, currently-reading, young-adult, horror, favorites, science-fiction, series, own, fiction. What do we need?"
I would probably choose horror, but that is because it's a genre I don't read! I try to choose options that are least likely to be needed for other books.
Sue wrote: "Trish, you can just add it to the Completion sheet."
Aha. I hadn't figured that bit out.
Aha. I hadn't figured that bit out.
Ira wrote: "I add it to horror. We can always move it around if it is needed elsewhere"Great - you should also add your books to the planning sheet so others know which options are taken. You can also see how many other people are considering the options. It already looks like there are lots of mystery, romance, audiobook, etc
I would slot in books against the shelves with the least options first. Don't delete out other people's options on the planning tab as it makes it harder to move books around later if we need to.
Hello everyone,I joined late, but I have already finished two (admittedly not-too-long) books. I have slotted My Sister, the Serial Killer for 'Africa' as I assume that isn't too easy to fill, and I also read Der Araber von morgen. Eine Kindheit im Nahen Osten. Band 2which I could shelf as 'humor', 'graphic-novel' 'historical''biography''books-i-own', 'europe'. Those are all among the top shelves. I don't know which of these would be hardest to fill, I slotted it as 'humor' for now, but it could be changed.
I hope that is ok?
I have also added the books I am currently reading and put them in the planning section and the book I plan to read (I hope I will finally read Ready Player One and thus finish the AtY Challenge with that and The Vanishing Halfwhich I am starting right now.
Welcome, Miriam:) Great start! I’ve also added two more books to the planning tab, I am reading too many at the same time now, lol.
Afternoon, all.
It's going to be A Christmas Carol for me today. It fitted a lot of prompts when I worked them out, so I'll see which ones don't have (m)any other runners and riders.
I'm also adding Our Malady: Lessons in Liberty from a Hospital Diary to my plans for the RAT, as it works for biography and is currently the only choice there. Plus Baking Bad

Hey everyone, just some housekeeping -- I have swapped out "northern-hemisphere" with "food", as northern hemisphere seemed to be very, very limited in its tags. I've adjusted your spreadsheets accordingly!
I finished Once Broken Faith and put it down against the arc shelf. It did include a bonus novella but I'm not sure it's long enough to count as a separate book, so I'll just log the extra pages.Gotta go prepare a Christmas ham and then I'll try and get some more pages in.
Hello team!! I went out yesterday to watch the new Spider Man movie and to buy some final Christmas presents, but still managed to read 156 pages :D sorry for the delay in updating the spreadsheet
I've had a busy weekend visiting relatives just in case they decide we can't visit again after Christmas. I finished one book this morning which I've put on the spreadsheet but I think that will be it for the weekend. Back to a normal work week tomorrow so should have some time to read in the evenings.
I’ve finished Adventsstjernen, it was a lovely advent/christmas novel - quite sad though. It has not been read by many here on GR, so the tags are very limited. I put it down for ‘young adult’, which was the option with fewest books as of now.

How was the movie? It's on my list to see.
Managed to read A Christmas Carol for a compact and bijou 160pg, and I've added it for "Winter", as we only had a couple of options for that one.
Today will probably be Murder on a Winter's Night. It only has limited shelves, though, so I'll use it for one of Fiction, Mystery or 2021

Ira wrote: "I finished reading Moon Over Soho by Ben Aaronovitch."Hi Ira, I notice you haven't put this one on the completed spreadsheet yet. Some of the options are already taken but I had a look on the shelves for this book, and you could use Mystery, audiobook, or one of the years mentioned. There are actually several options available. Just go for it!
I guess most of us are busy, trying to prepare for Christmas as well as getting as much reading in as possible. I had a new grandson born this week so have been somewhat distracted, and we are also heading into a heatwave so I need to spend time preparing my veges and fruit trees so they are not burned to a crisp. I am longingly imagining most of you in winter!

I put it under audiobook. I see no one has taken poetry, so I am reading The Essential Neruda: Selected Poems for that one. Should be finished soon
Sue wrote: "I guess most of us are busy, trying to prepare for Christmas as well as getting as much reading in as possible. I had a new grandson born this week so have been somewhat distracted, and we are also..."Oh how nice, a brand new grandson for Christmas. Congratulations!
Here the streets are covered with snow, just the perfect amount to make it very Christmassy. Fingers crossed it lasts until Christmas Eve on Friday.
We are a bit off from the rest of the world here where I am (Norway), where the big Christmas day is Christmas Eve on the 24th, where we open presents in the afternoon after dinner, and not in the morning of the 25th like the rest of the world. So on 25th, we always have a big family brunch with games and such, always a very relaxing day.
Btw; I took the liberty to do some housekeeping in the spreadsheet, and moved all the completed books to the far right of the planning sheet, just to make it a bit easier to read what's actually in progress as of now.
Miriam wrote: "Hello everyone,I joined late, but I have already finished two (admittedly not-too-long) books. I have slotted My Sister, the Serial Killer for 'Africa' as I assume that isn't too ..."
Hi Miriam, when doing some minor housekeeping in the spreadsheet, I noticed you had marked 'Der Araber von Morgen" as completed in the planning tab, but it was not marked down in the completion thread. I added it for Humor, but please feel free to change it :)
I'd love some snow, or at least some crisp frosty days. It's been so very grey here on the south coast of England! At least lots of the neighbours have put lights up to cheer things up.
Ellie wrote: "I'd love some snow, or at least some crisp frosty days. It's been so very grey here on the south coast of England! I am in Perth, Western Australia, and I also do Christmas Dinner for my family on Christmas Eve. This is not traditional for us, but it means they can see their other families on Christmas Day, and I can just relax with leftovers. So, I will probably read more on Christmas Day than on the days leading up...
Just finished Far Sector for graphic-novel. Annoying doesn't have page nbers so I'll just go with how many Goodreads says it has.
I'm afraid I only managed 71pg yesterday - work was surprisingly brutal for the last week before Christmas. I'll try to do better today.
BTW, I've added The Crime at Black Dudley to my list for the RAT - it's the first book I've found with "nook", and as there don't seem to be any others in the sheet for that yet, it may well end up there.

I finished reading Asking for It: The Alarming Rise of Rape Culture and What We Can Do about It by Kate Harding. I put it under non fiction
I just started The Island as my Libby hold came through. I didn't realise but its set in Thailand. I thought that might be a hard tag to complete so it's perfect timing.
I have finally finished my audiobook Ice Station and have tagged it in Antarctica. I have also almost finished The Paris Seamstress which is set mostly in France, but is also a romance and historical. I will probably put it under France as there are fewer books there. I'm impressed with how many books some people are getting through - great work team!
I started reading Stay Another Day this morning and it seems like quite a quick read so hopefully I can read it while my partner does some work later. But first, my dog is hassling me for her walkies!

Book Shelves Team Challenge
For this team challenge, teams will be reading books for each of the book shelves listed below. Like in team challenges past, you will need to communicate with your team to determine who is reading a book for which shelf so nothing gets missed and you don't spend the week all reading the same shelves. There are 90 shelves to choose from. Your team is not expected to read a book for every shelf. Instead, the object is to read as many books as you can for as many shelves as you can. The team who reads the most shelves at the end of the week will be the winner!
